Excellent Chipper/shredder
If you want an excellent chipper/shredder - then look no further. I bought mine in Sweden and it works very, very well. I read one good comment and one bad comment. My advice...is to slowly feed your shredder with your particular kind of wood and bushes. Learn to listen and "feel" how it shreds and slowly test and increase the wood content. I have tried both dead of live wood and this thing eats them all up. Over time, it has jammed due to worn blades...but you can reverse them and even sharpen them. Dont be greedy and learn to listen to the machine. The money is worth it....trust me. I have beautiful mulch in my garden - you can too. Good luck!

Hopes Dashed By Poor Product Performance
Viking GE250 garden Shredder
----------------------------
As a firm believer in buying quality products, I had no hesitation in buying this machine, as it is made by Stihl.
The first piece I fed in jammed the machine! I stood there in disbelief. Then you have take the casing off, clear the mess away and re-screw the casing back on. After the machine had jammed 10+ times I got fed up and eventually took it back for a full refund.
So - does it have good points? Yes. If you feed in only small branches, say up to 20mm, with not too much leafy stuff, the machine is awesomely fast. It's easy to feed in, although it relies on gravity, but that wasn't a problem.
The bad points are that is most certainly doesn't do what it says on the tin. There is no way it can handle up to 35mm without jamming. I actually never tried 35mm, as mine was jamming with stuff around 25mm.
Another point is that because the cutting disc revolves so fast, if you happen to be holding on to one of the firmer stems whilst feeding in, you get a nasty jolt, so it's best to feed stuff in using other branches.
It's really quick to shred, but it takes so much time to sort out when it jams, for me it is too frustrating to use.
Also, I would think as the blades get worn, the performance will certainly fall away, and jam even more often.

Purchased The Viking Ge250 Electric Garden Shredde
Purchased the Viking GE250 Electric Garden Shredder lat week after many years of stuggling with a cheaper shredder which was frankly rubbish. I really wanted a petrol shredder for higher throughput and better shredding performance but wasconvinced and impressed by the salesman's explanation and demonstration of the Viking machine.
Having used this machine I am very impressed. The chopping mechanism has a cross cut as well as a chopping action resiulting in small chippings which will compost well.
I also like the feed hopper which although tall, is a straight tube with parrallel walls rather than the usual tapered walls. This means that the material falls though easily onto the chopping mechanism by gravity, without bunching up and clogging the hopper.
Another good feature, is that when it does eventually jam. Ususally because i get carried away with how easy it is to use & feed. It is very quick simple to open the machine, giving good access to the chopping mechanism or the feed hopper to clean them.
Overall very impressed so far. I think it's a little pricey for an electric shredder but in my view worth it. And looks like the machine should last well.
