Call Centre

I have had problems regarding this item but having spoken to the call centre manager who is a charming lady and very easy to talk to ,she has been most helpful and resolved the problem for me.

Poor Equipment, Appalling Customer Service

Ordered August last year, did not work as head kept swivelling round so complained...promised a replacement shaft, immediate delivery. Nothing happened so chased late November and again in January, when customer service said parts had been sent...an absolute LIE, admitted when cornered, and told no replacement parts available so return whole machine for refund. Refused my request to spaeak to a supervisor so sent a letter of complaint and returned machine. No reply to complaint, had to keep chasing refund which eventually credited to my card in March!!!

It is apparent Eckman operate a guarantee system that is obstructive unhelpful and a disgrace. Staff lie, delay and are not interested in a solution, only putting customer off in hope he goes away...obviously company policy and an indictment of a very second rate company.

If I could zero stars but, as it is , does anyone know another company with such an appalling online review profile???

Battery Cost Extortionate

Whilst the trimmer worked a treat for 2 summers, the battery now needs replacing as doesn't hold its charge to use for 2 mins (seriously). We are now looking for possibly heavier but electric as so disappointed with short life span of this. no use if battery keeps going.

I purchased two trimmers one for uk and one for spain. I had the same experience, both batteries failed to recharge more than 8-10 times. Product totally spoilt by batteries..

Eckman Long Reach Trimmer Review

took delivery yesterday after ordering direct with Eckman many weeks ago. Rang them 3 times for delivery update so at least I knew my order was being processed. The tool is very top heavy and even at its shortest its pretty unusable held anywhere but nearly vertically and I am not frail. The blade is fairly short but I knew that when buying but it feels weak compared with my shorter trimmer and underpowered. The balance is terrible with just a dead weight at the end of a long arm. Spend more money on a better product.

I agree with many of the above points. In addition after just 2 occasions of using my trimmer it has burnt out and has produced electrical sparks and tripped all fuses connected to the machine in the garage and house indoors. It is now completely non functional. I therefore intend to return it and agree with the previous comment that it is noticeably weaker when compared to my black and decker electric hedge trimmer. Sad to say this item is a major disappointment and would not advise it's purchase even with the major saving advertised!

Battery Useless

I bought a hedge trimmer in Oct 2012 and all was well through 2013.When I started to use it in 2014 the battery worked for about 30 secs before it died on me.I kept charging it and discharging to see if I could revive it but to no avail.

If I could have got a replacement battery it would not have been so bad but I couldn't. The company keeps fobbing me off so I am now left with a 'chocolate teapot'

Yes I had exactly the same experience.

The company went into liquidation and the firm that bought the business denies any responsibility - refused to honour the guarantee. I'd also paid for a second battery that didn't arrive and again the new firm refused to honour the contract with the previous owners.

What To Do When The Eckman Battery Dies ........

I would not recommend buying one of these if they become available!! I bought it with two extension poles for a specific use and it worked quite well at first.

My Eckman battery died just out of warranty, although judging by the other comments, it wouldn't have mattered much had it been earlier. I found the cutting action was pretty good so I decided to try to keep the thing. I bought a cheap 18v Ni-Cd drill battery and charger, removed and recycled the Li-ion cells from the Eckman battery case and wired a cable to the terminals. Now I put the Ni-Cd battery in my pocket with the cable feeding the trimmer via the old battery case and the trimmer works very well. (I have other 18v Li-ion batteries for my DeWalt drill but I haven't had the nerve to risk trying to connect them to the trimmer, although it should work without damaging the batteries)

The motor/cutter drivetrain started to make squealing noises, but dismantling the casing is simple and a spot of lubrication on the sliding bits fixed it.

I hope this is useful to you with your dead batteries and useless trimmers

Hi - several years on and the gadget is still working well. I now use my DeWalt 18v battery with offset electrodes to engage the Eckmann input terminals directly as the battery almost engages the original lock. A couple of rubber bands hold it in place. The mechanical bits of the multitool are really good - such a pity about the battery and poor quality charger

Good tip - I might try that!

However I'd advise against trying to rewire Li-Ion batteries in due to risks involved.

Rubbish

Like so many before me the batteries are not fit for purpose as they fail to hold their charge. I have 3 but 2 are useless. I think this needs to be a matter for Trading Standards

The tool when working is pretty good but without batteries a bit like that well known quiz game Pointless!

We are doing the same as we cannot get any sense from the company about our order. They took our money straight away . It is over 3 weeks now

GeorgieQ

Please pursue through the retailer and trading standards. I am taking that course. This firm are completely useless.

Q&A

How do I get the battery pack to lock onto the trimmer?

MargaretTimson

How can I get batteries and chargers for my Eckman equipment including the long reach electric telescopic hedge trimmer?

Davosheffield

I only have the cable version. After a bad start - failed after 30 minutes i sent the unit back- I have to say they were fantastic in re collection and returning it fully fixed inside 2 weeks. I put the unit away for winter in its box and used it yesterday 12/07/14. It works brilliant both as a cutter and for hard to reach areas. I used it for 3 hours without problem-Great piece of kit so far so good. Will further review in the Autumn when I use the Eckman hedgetrimmer for the third time.

My etht3 just stopped when trimming the hedge and won't start again. What could be wrong?

MANSERIAN

As the company has closed, I cannot find spares for The 1E36F-2 engine which has failed within the warranty period. Can anyone help to find a UK supplier?
