Poor Hedge Cutter
The hedge cutting attachment is very poor - even relatively soft growth seems to defeat it and anything slightly woody remains completely unscathed. The chain saw/pruner attachment is, on the other hand, very good.

Piece Of Junk
Bought this Ryobi expand-it system for edging my lawn. Bought it approximately 5 years ago, so it gets used maybe 3 times a year. The motor is the biggest pile of junk i've ever seen, and i'm a mechanic. There are no adjustments on the carburetor, the choke shaft moves on it's own so you can't choke it. The handle also shifts on it's own, so you're constantly adjusting it. The choke lever keeps falling off. The expand-it butterfly nut one day decided to fall off as well. If the thing starts, which is a struggle, it's hard to keep running. It floods very easily and i could go on and on. Everytime i use it, i have to fix something. Because it gets used so little, it looks like new. DO NOT BUY A RYOBI PRODUCT! Total waste of money. I am in the process of buying another weedeater. This piece of junk is visiting the landfill.

Pile Of Rubbish
I unfortunately purchased this system recently. The idea of multi tool attachments is good, but useless as the base unit doesnt work Out of seventy three attempts to start it over the course of a week, I have managed to start it TWICE. When it did start it was powerful, but I might as well throw it in the bin. I don't earn the kind of money to have wasted it on this pile of rubbish

Useless
Unreliable. Difficult to start and poorly made and designed. Don't bother.

Great Product
I purchased this system in stages, including engine, whippersnapper, pruning chain saw and now hedging attachment. The motor starts easily and has lots of power. I have used all 3 attachments as a mowing contractor and am very happy with each. Recently I pruned 2 tall wattles, including cutting the trunk of about25cm. The saw handled this task easily. This week I had a very large hedge trimming job and used the expand it hedger in conjunction with my hedger to reach fully across. The end result was a very neat hedge and a happy customer
Complete Rubbish
I bought the expand it kit which I need for the size of hedges. I actually bought three base units non of which started properly and sending them back was a waste of time. I have now bought a sovereign which works with the expand it range starts every time and I have on a replacement scheme

Not Fit For Purpose
Bought base engine unit plus expand it hedge trimmer attachment. Problem is the trimmer only articulates by 90 degrees TOWARDS the operator when clicked and locked into the base unit shaft. The unit cannot therefore be used to cut the top of hedges when used in the normal safe working position so a complete waste of time. Did inform Ryobi by e mail and after 6 days they did offer to sell me the parts to make the machine operate as it should. What a nerve to charge when the modifications to make good a design problem should have been be included in the original package.
Don't Buy Ryobi Rubbish
ryobi should be banned from making the expand-it system, the main motor just does not start, my tip is to buy Japanese brands which are at least three times more expensive but very reliable, if you cannot afford it your better off saving for one and in the meantime go without.
Agree the Ryobi stuff is troublesome. They "easy-start" used to take 50 to 70 pulls to get started. Until I discovered it is incredibly sensitive to the petrol / oil mix. Now only take 15 to 20 pulls! Progress eh?
Q&A
Why do they sell this hedge trimmer attachment when the 10 amp head says not recommended for use with hedge trimmer?
