Disappointing.

I am very pro Honda. Both family cars, ride on mower and push HRB423 all 100%, but I am disappointed with this purchase in April 2020. It is very heavy and am now

wrestling with how to get it to repairer as the drive is failing and end up pushing it to help. It is a muscle challenge. OK nice to have a large grassbox, but when full really heavy. As the roller is not split, turning corners and mobility is poor and hard work.

Easy To Operate And Doing It's Job Perfectly

Amazing machine launched by honda. It's a great Lawn Mower in gardening tools. Very sharpen blades. Easy to operate and doing it's job perfectly. Excellent performance provided. High quality product at very reasonable price. Good battery, happy with my purchase.

Served Me Well For 13 Years

I bought mine in 2008 and 13 years later it is still going strong. Apart from the odd service and blade sharpening it has required no maintenance, starts easily and does a good job. However, I think that now is the time to look for a battery powered alternative.

Unmaneuverable, Unreliable And Doesn’t Self-propel Well.

I bought my Honda HRX476QY in 2016 and threw it away lat year. Expensive mistake. My lawn is relatively flat but as the grass bag filled the mower became progressively more sluggish until it couldn’t self-propel. The roller turned OK, but as it is shiny steel with no tread it simply ground a dent in the grass. Heavy to push too! Also the rear roller is not split so it is a real struggle to turn at the end of a stretch and you need lots of room to get it round. Impossible next to a flower bed. The drive required adjusting frequently to prevent slipping and it’s not easy to DIY as it requires considerable dismantling (and if you DIY there’s no warranty, so £100 every time thank you). A valve stuck several times preventing starting and on one occasion cutting out mid-cut - another double journey to the agent and the hassle of getting a hundredweight into and out of the boot. Even when working well it is so slow!! Runs quickly on the patio but very poor on the grass - down in part to the roller slipping I suppose.

Forget the pizazz of the name - it doesn’t even come close to a Mountfield at a third of the price.

Honda Hrx 476 Poor Experience

I purchased a honda 19inch mower 19 years ago and it was the best mower I have ever brought and it was well worth the high price I paid. It never gave me any trouble at all during the 19 years until I broke the casing. I replaced it with the same equilavent model which has been one of the worst mowers I have ever owned. The mower has failed to start on two occasions due to stuck valves. The mower is so slow and has no revs due to new regulations !! It struggles to even cut the lawn sometimes. The drive belt has come off twice and I am told that the gearbox fails on this model due to oil leaks.

What have Honda donet of this once excellent machine. I do not recommend this mower especially at the high price.

Really surprising - I have the HRX 476 and slow it is not! In fact I usually throttle back a bit when mowing so I feel more in control. Cuts through thick grass with no effort. I think the reviewer's mower must have a problem - maybe the fuel? This is an excellent mower, just a bit heavy in my opinion.

A Great Little Workhorse!

I bought my Honda 476 in 2002, and have just come in (Sept 2013) from yet another session mowing my hilly half-acre of lawn. It has never given a moment's trouble, in 11 years, and the powerful engine deals with the steep uphills with the greatest of ease. I'd been away over two weeks, but it powers along, even in rather long grass. I am a small woman, so I did not want a larger mower - I wanted a powerful machine that was not too big and heavy for me to control. It has been serviced and looked after as it should be, every year of its life, and spent one entire year "in dry dock", but the spell of idleness did not reach its soul, and it went straight back to work when asked. It was expensive to buy, but it continues to be a great little machine, years later!

Honda Hrx 476 Qx

Best mower i have used, had for one seasons cutting professionally. my customers have all commented how nice their lawns look after being cut, ie; with the stripes. Easy to start, easy to use no restarting engine after the grass has been emptied and quiet. On the negative side, it is very heavy so transporting can be difficult. On the whole i would have another one when this one wears itself out.

What A Load Of Rubbish

My boss bought one of these heaps a little over a year ago for his gardening business. So far it has spent more time in the menders than on the grass (I do the mowing and I don't think it was out of the repair shop all summer). The latest saga was today. He had taken it in to be repaired (again) because it refused to drive. We picked it up, put it on the van and went to work. the mower mowed about 4 stripes and, would you believe, packed up again (drive gone again) so, back to golf & turf.

The moral of this story is whatever you do, DO NOT buy a Honda mower and NEVER buy a hrx467. stick to Hayter.

Reliable Mower Giving Good Cutting Results And Easy Starting

The HRX476QX is the best lawnmower I have had. The engine generally starts first pull. The rotostop blade control is very handy and saves needing to restart the mower after emptying the grass box. The quality of cut is good (not as good as a cylinder mower of course but perfectly adequate for a normal lawn) and the roller leaves nice-looking stripes. The roller makes it easy to mow around and over the edges without accidentally cutting into the turf.

Good points? Reliable engine. Good quality cut. Runs for ages on a tank of petrol. Has never needed any repairs (now 5 years old and used twice a week on a large lawn).

Poor points? Well there are a few - the grass bag seems to wear easily and is expensive to replace. The mower doesn't handle long grass well especially when wet. It is very heavy to manhandle especially if you need to go up or down steps to get into the shed etc.

I think the previous reviewer probably worked it very hard in a commercial environment. It is probably not best suited to that but is perfect for home use.
