Mountfield SP414

My first petrol mower so I read the instructions thoroughly. It was a bit fiddly to put together but perhaps I was being overly cautious. It's very light and easy to move around. However, putting the oil in was almost impossible and I had to rush out and buy an angled funnel just for that. It is impossible to get oil into it otherwise due to the angle of the tank and cap. One other thing - I was recommended to get a self propelled mower by a (tall, male) gardener friend. In retrospect, for me it's not worth the extra money and I've found it easier not to use that function because the pull is too strong. And being a short female, I end up tipping the mower back when trying to slow it down. Those points aside, I love it. So far it's started easily and whizzes around my medium garden even when I don't use the self propel.

Great all round product, would say a market leader with Hayter

Was looking for a replacement for our electric hover mower which when the grassbox was full was like pulling a small car around the garden,looked at a lot of petrol selfpropelled mowers most had Briggs& stratton engines and even with four wheels where still quite heavy for a woman to use after a visit to our local DIY store on the wendesday found this little wonder,The Mountfield SP414 light because of its plastic construction which in the end so are most mowers.The wife found it easy to start after adding oil and fuel 3pumps to the primer and away it and not too fast, went away sweet as a nut from its 100cc mountfield engine,we have not had a petrol mower since the early flymo,s which at times even I had a problem to start.Know no mixing oil/petrol mix just check oil then pull and go the wife loves it in its bright red colour. As we are both into our sixtys this mower was an ideal choice light and not to fast ,would recommended to a friend yes would I lend it NO very pleased with our purchase
