Very Satisfied
I bought my SP536ES from B&Q in 2006 and have found that mechanically it has never let me down. Unfortunately the battery for the electric starter packed up in 2011 but it starts on the first pull of the cord ever since.
I would add my lawn is not a small one.
It is quite heavy t push when motor not running but the self-propelled motor is excellent.

How Wrong Can You Be ?
I always believed that Mountfield represented good quality. Just how wrong can you be ? My SP536ES has got to be the worst piece of machinery I have ever bought. Things keep breaking. In fact when I bought a spare part from a dealer, he asked me how many I wanted ! The drive belt keeps falling off. The brittle plastic belt guard has shattered. The battery compartment has fallen apart. The air filter cover doesn't fit properly, causing it to fall off, leaving the filter bouncing across the lawn. The locating lugs for the blade have broken.
I've only had the damned thing two years. And it's difficult to get spare parts here in France.
The last mower I bought cost me less than £100 over here. I lasted 12 years or more. (and still works), so why did I waste my money on a Mountfield.

Probably The Worst Lawn Mower In The World
I brought the lawn mower in 2010 right from the start it would not start (forgive the pun)!! phoned B and Q told me to go to local agent who told me I had hit a stone! I told him that, that would have been a miracle since the machine had not started since coming out the box!. 1 year on noticed oil coming out of the crankcase I took it to a local lawn mower repair centre, after laughing and saying not another idiot buying one of these he told me that the engine is made in china and we would get to know each other well due to the amount of time it wold be in the workshop!!My advice is steer well away and buy something with abriggs and stratton or honda engine,oh and also not from B&Q

Poor Build Quality
Bought a Mountfield from B and Q mistakenly thinking it was a quality product. Had it two years. The gear cable has snapped twice (repaired under warranty) but now the front wheel assembly has sheared off (and the other wheel does not look too robust (the mower is now out of warranty). Each front wheel is only held in place by a plastic housing which is far too flimsy.

Disappointing Build Quality
bought it 2 years ago, starts easily, cuts well but front wheel assembly fell off inside 6 months , had to take to local agent for repair, the handle fixing bolts constantly work loose, the grassbox is difficult to empty due to the wedge shape of it in common with other mowers-do the designers ever try the products before sales begin?, now the petrol tank has started to leak,I will not buy another mountfield product based on this experience

Best Mower I Have Used
i have a very large garden and should have a ride on mower, but i bought this machine as it was more affordable. i use this machine weekly and it has never caused me any trouble .It starts first time and the motor pulls it up very steep slopes .I would highly recommend this mower.

536 Commercial Use
Bought 2 years ago from B and Q on special offier. Now selling at over twice the price.
I use it for semi commercial use and it is used most days of the week
Three gardens are large. Tennis court plus. Have found it to be a
top notch machine. Runs sometimes for three hours with no hiccups.
Gives a beautiful cut complete with stripes. It is amply fast enough for a good cut but speed can be increased by turning the throttle stop screw.
One of the beast lawnmowers I have used.

Appalling Service
Earlier this week I purchased a Mountfield Mower.
After assembling the mower, I started it and immediately it over-reved. When I cut the engine there was a distinct smell of burning and a load of grey smoke.
I called the Mountfield Helpline on the instructions and was informed that the spring on the throttle cable was probably bent. I was told that I should call a local agent to have the mower repaired.
I was told that I would have to cover the cost of transporting the mower to the agent.
It was also made clear to me that I was responsible for making all the arrangements to rectify the fault.
The helpline operator stated that they had given me a solution to the problem.
There was no acknowledgement of the fact that the "solution" involved extra cost, time and hassle for me. Having paid several hundred pounds for the mower I feel that this is completely unhelpful.
This was a brand new mower that didn't work out of the box. Why should I have to rectify (including additional expense) an error made by Mountfield?

Wish I'd Read The Reviews Before Splashing The Cas
Wish I'd read the reviews before splashing the cash on this. Pretty disappointing to be honest, my trusty flymo (12 years old) that broke was far better.
I was totally duped into the power drive feature - which in my opinion is pretty useless. My garden is larger than average and this doesn't help in the slighest.
The only positive for me is the grass collector that works quite well.

Bought This Machine Last Year (as Temp Replacement
Bought this machine last year (as temp replacement for commercial use) and it has now run for around 150 hours.
Both front wheel plates broke and replacements were sent free from mountfield for me to fit, else I could take it to a dealer.
It is slow from factory, but you can adjust the running speed by tweaking the throttle stop screw above air filter. Zoom!!
It is heavy, has wide cut and good on fuel.
Q&A
Starts up first pull then cuts out 2010 model. What could be the problem?
