I Have Actually Just Borrowed One Of These Qualcas
I have actually just borrowed one of these Qualcast Easi-Trak 32 from my friend. Having bought 3 mowers in the past three years that were all roughly the same price as this and that were all useless - I have been amazed by this model. It is extremely light and the handle folds down easily which made putting it into the car very easy indeed.
This was the first cut for my new turf and, owing to fairly vigorous watering and the recent warm weather, it had become fairly long (approx 10cm). I started with little confidence in this machine. It only boasts an 850W motor which is on the smaller side for this type of mower. However, from power-up it became obvious that it was more than up to the task. It was mildly irksome to have to use two extension leads to reach the bottom of the garden although I do accept that at 22 metres my garden is longer than average.
The safety switch is easy to use and the mower reaches its operating speed quickly which reduces potential grass damage. The machine is light but feels sturdy and stable. The grass was reasonably dry although it had been thoroughly watered the night before. The mower cut the grass quickly and easily in one pass. All of the cuttings were collected in the box with no droppage on the grass. The relatively small box meant very regular emptying but with such efficient collection this did not seem any hardship. My garden is 100 square metres and this machine completed the job in about 15 minutes which I consider to be fairly swift. More importantly, it all felt fairly effortless. Better still, having looked under the machine to clean it, the deck was completely clear so I did not even have to perform this task.
My grass now looks superb. The cut is clean and even and the grass does not look bruised or damaged in any way. The only mild flaw is that the mower does not have a rear roller. If it did, I am confident that I would be looking at some fairly respectable stripes now!
Basically, if you want to cut your grass quickly and easily (even if you don't get out every week to do it) this machine is for you. If it had a rear roller I would buy one myself with no hesitation.
I have just purchased a Qualcast Easitrak 32 lawn mower for £79.99, so it may be different from the model reviewed. I do not have the mower now, as I used it and was disgusted with the quality of engineering I found. Admittedly the grass was damp, but not long - 10 to 15 cm. The grass collector failed to clear the grass efficiently, and I was constantly stopping and removing the blockage in the chute between the cutter area and the collector box. The motor sounded as if it was on its last legs. Externally it was easy to clean, but the business end - the cutter area - was full of nooks and crannies to harbour grass. On the plus side, Homebase refunded my money.
