Icos Ideal He 24, 18 Years And Still Going
Great boiler, 18 years and still going strong due to its straightforward design and ease of maintenance.
Not to say it hasn't had its issues, including the replacement of the control board which is a known problem - easy to have fixed and £50 charged for a recon 'orange' board.
Other issues which are age related - flame detector connecting wire insulation cracked (gets hot due to position so drys out over time), not expensive. Spark electrode every 7 ish years - heat and constant sparking takes its toll!
Main reason for longevity? Making sure service thoroughly cleans the heat exchamger of ash as it can clog up, and flushing out the drain too (remember to have the inspection rubber replaced on the front inspection/cleaning actionplate every 10 ish years too as it slowly perishes.
So overall, really pleased, and really don't get the bad press it has!

Been Running For 12 Years And Have Only Had One Sm
Been running for 12 years and have only had one small fault and maybe just lucky. Considering that it only cost £33 to repair I cannot complain at all. Never had a large gas bill it must run at about the efficiency rating so have been well pleased with my ideal boiler.

Keeps Breaking Down
In my defense i did not buy this boiler it was fitted by the house builder ,we've had nothing but problems from this boiler ,another £295 spent this week on it.
I must have had 4 breakdowns in 8 years which is very poor .
I'm looking to replace this boiler soon after 8 years for no reason then we've had enough . it shouldn't be this way.

Solid Piece Of Kit
i have a 12kw Ideal icos , never had any trouble and fitted a 15 kw Ideal Icos to a rented property , we have to say its the best boiler we have ever had , the potterton suprima that it replaced gave us endless trouble

Flooded Kitchen
Please do not consider having one of these fitted.
After just 2 years it leaked all over our kitchen while we were on holiday...causing extensive damage.
When it was working it was very noisey.
We now have the expense of replacing our newly fitted kitchen and a new boiler. Our last boiler was in for 20 years with only a few minor problems in that time...this boiler is a joke.
Apparently this is a common issue...you have been warned!

Worst Boiler Ever
Now coming up 7 years old it has the following replaced -
Circuit board now on 3rd board
Pump now on 4th pump
Auto air vent now on 4th vent
Condensate drain trap now on 3rd
Pressure bellows replaced once, had to be external as to fit internal requires boiler to be take off of wall.
Presently it has been leaking for past 2 months & after numerous visits they do not know what is wrong so are going to replace the heat exchanger.
I cannot think of anything positive to say about this boiler apart from it is badly designed poor quality junk

He15 Nightmare
I don't usually write comments or reviews on products, but today I am compelled...
A couple of weeks ago, we started experiencing intermittent loss of hot water on our 6 yr old boiler which we thought was down to incorrect timer settings, this has now developed into complete failure.
We have only been in the house since December, so are unsure on fault history, but upon asking about these boilers with a few `plumber` mates, the consensus is clear - avoid at all costs, they are known to be crap...!!
One said his company won't take them on under maintenance contracts as they are so poor..!!!
Due to price and timing, we have decided to take the option of asking ICOS to repair - the PCB is broken - as you get a 1 yr warranty when you do this ( excluding the heat exchanger - surprise surprise - another weak point apparently ).
I am hoping this lasts us until the summer when I will be replacing the unit with something more robustly built...
Any suggestions anyone..??
We have a sealed system with a tank upstairs - it isn't a combi boiler...

Chinese Heat!
I really dislike this Ideal product and Ideal's 'Customer Service'.
Hot under the collar but no heat in the home - Ideal?, not at all.
This Ideal condensing boiler has proven to be full of Chinese sourced components and hence poor reliability and engineering quality.
Now 6 years on since installation this boiler has consumed X 2 exhaust fans, the first within 13 months, the second today 16/09/2013.
Last year the flue corroded due to to the thin gauge aluminium flue casing, causing water to drip in torrents into my home.
Then the ignitor failed, together with the control board or PCB.
Keep away from this manufacturer they lack the quality.
Nasty profit maximising low quality just oozes out of the flame spreader.
Would never recommend or purchase again.
Spares Inventories at Ideal must be high as are their profits in this area.

Rubbish boiler
2 and a half year old boiler, problems began just after the 2 year warranty period had ended.
4 expensive call outs too british gas to repair, due to the boiler leaking - no hot water / loud banging noises coming from the boiler , and now we cannot turn the heating off.
the boiler was fitted by persimmon homes for a new build property. So much for thinking we would not have any expensive bills or repairs to pay.
icos in my opinion are rubbish and there boilers are designed not to last.
The enginner told me icos boilers are terrible and lots of people have had problems with them , various insurance companies will not insure you if you now have this boiler.
I will be speaking to as many people as possible to see if there is anything we can do about this.
avoid.
Ours has leaked after 5 years, seems 2 years is an acceptable life for a boiler!!!! Cant see the energy efficiency in that.
if the boiler is banging then either the condence trap or condence pipework is blocked or the circulation pump has gone, the ideal icos is a good boiler and if you know your job these can be repaired easy, if you want expensive bills then call british gas if not call your local ideal boiler specialist. you will find there deatails on ideals website.

7 Years, No Issues
I don't normally bother reviewing products but in the search for an instruction manual I found these awful reviews. My boiler was fitted in 2005 by my father when I moved into my home. Since then I have had no issue other than the condensing pipe leaking which was due to the pipes freezing outside (as told by my brother who works for my dad). Anyway, some lagging on the pipes outside sorted that out straight away. I have found it to be reliable and efficient and trust my father when he tells me he has fitted me a decent piece of kit (after all, 45 years in the industry gives him some insight). Might I also add that I have never had this serviced other than the once when by brother came to lag the pipes and did it just because he was here.
Q&A
Does this heat the water and can I set a timer for Heating and hot water
Even when I am not using heating or hot water the the boiler flashes the C continuously and LED light flashes on and off had new 2 port valve fitted yesterday but boiler still does not shut off by showing O in the control unit. Can anyone help?
Could you please tell me what temperature should I set my central heating on my boiler, the fitter set it on 82c?
