A Horse Ride To Remember!

A perfect day from start to finish with the riding centre catering for a range of riding abilities. Felt safe at all times without being made to feel too restricted whilst riding.

I would strongly recommend Boskell riding centre to anyone fancying a ride in the idyllic Cornwall countryside.

Keep up the good work!

Fabulous, Safe And Friendly

Couldn't have been better! The staff we very friendly, helpful and accommodating, one novice in our group that was well looked after. Well kept Ponies and horses with good temperament for riders of various abilities, beautiful, safe off road hacking trails through glorious countryside. Read the reviews before booking, and did not find any of the negative comments relevant to my experience with this stables! Will definitely be going back and taking all our visitors too

Love This Stable

Staff are professional, polite, friendly and very approachable. I never feel awkward asking questions or advice. I have always found safety paramount, (we went here after attending another stables the difference was amazing) i never have had to question their safety records. My son has learned so much In the time he has been riding here. I would recommend (and often do) this stable to other riders of any ability. tack is checked once the rider is mounted and the rider is asked about comfort and stirrup length etc.

Staff are well informed as to the suitability of the horses for each rider and chosen as such. Forms as to the riders ability are completed and horses are matched to ability, height and weight of rider. Beautiful countryside for hacks, riding school and cross country course are all available. I have always been extremely pleased with the quality of teaching given and the results are apparent in my sons improvement over recent months.

Not At All Recommended!!

I attended recently to go on an hour ride with some friends. At the start of the ride a friend pointed out to the staff that the saddle kept sliding. Staff just told the rider to lean to one side to bring the saddle back to the centre. staff did not get of the horse once to check it was still safe to continue riding. Staff were fully aware the one rider had never ridden a horse before, two had only ridden a horse twice ever and one rider was very experienced. This happened a number of times throughout the ride.. During the ride the saddle slipped so much to the side that it caused a friend to fall off the horse onto his back and onto his head. At the time due to shock we did not realise how severe the fall was intill on the way home from the stables we had to attend a&e. When staff were advised of what happened, one member of staff stated "we'll is he hurt, he doesn't look it" . I have never had such poor customer service and met such rude, unprofessional and unsympathetic staff. I was absolutely disgusted with the way the staff just shrugged the incident off like it was my friends fault. Straight away the staff member got on the defensive saying its not our fault. Not once did she apologise or ask how my friends was!!!!!!!! I would never recommend anyone attend to go on a hack. Horses were unruly and did not listen to basic commands ( obviously not the horses fault) .

Knowledgable, Fun And Friendly

I returned to horse riding following an accident that knocked my confidence. As a mature lady I have found the staff at boskell, nurturing and patient in their approach, they really know their stuff and their horses, and never push beyond a riders capabilities.

The atmosphere is friendly and the lessons are well planned with underpinning reasoning behind excersises, so that you can apply the flat work principles to everyday riding.

The horses are well cared for and happy and there is a variety available to suit all abilities and sizes!

The stables are situated away from busy roads with plenty of tracks for hacking, really ideal to have all that on site.

I have now been back in the saddle for 4 years and my weekly lesson is the highlight of my week, I have Boskell to thank for my renewed confidence and passion for horses.

I would recommend and have recommended these stables to friends and family, I would however like to point out, horses are animals and can be unpredictable no matter how placid they are, people wanting to just sit on a horse with no life in it or pony rides should go to Blackpool!! People who want a lovely learning environment those who are interested in actually riding, learning horsemanship and care principles, will absolutely love it here.

Unsafe/rude Staff/avoid

Dangerous and unsafe, friend fell off due too incorrectly fitted saddle, which resulted in a visit to A&E in Truro. The verdict was a fractured back (L4 vertebrae).

The young lad leading us struggled to control the group. The horses were not suited to novices, One of the horses had only ever been riden by its owner which the young lad pointed out during the hack.

Staff were also very very rude.

I would suggest you avoid.

To clarify I am not using this site to vent anger or "slate" people. As you have pointed out you are not a member of staff so are as you weren't present at the time I'd suggest you are unable to comment on the validity of my account of what happened.

I'm aware of the dangers involved with the sport but measures can be put in place to reduce the risk, it is MY opinion that this did not happen at Boskell Riding Centre.

I'm sorry, I haven't missed the point and of course hope your friend is better soon. I merely wish to point out that the facts in you account are not entirely true. I am not a member of staff as it would be unprofessional and against terms of website for me to comment if I were. I just worry that these sites are used to vent and slate people when things haven't gone to plan. I know the yard well and know they always conduct safety checks, people fall off, novice riders are unbalanced. These are facts.

I'm sorry your hack didn't end nicely, it is a lovely place to ride, I hope your friend isn't put off horses and recovers from their injury type which is quite rare from that height and type of fall.

Get well soon, kind regards.

Dear Firmbutfairminded,

I don't understand your first statement? Please clarify?

Secondly I appreciate the danger of the 'sport', but I fail to understand how you can disregard your basic duty of care when sending several novices out to participate in this activity.

Finally, I fully understand the unpredictable nature of a horse, however if basic checks had been made it would have mitigated the risk. You cannot blame the horse for the incorrectly fitted saddle ending up on his stomach.

I find your response disconcerting, you appear to have missed the point that our friend has been seriously injured having put his faith in your establishment

Some of the details in this review are simply incorrect.

Anyone taking part in the third most dangerous sport must be prepared for the occasional accident.

Horses are animals and by that alone- unpredictable.

Awful!! Don't Go!

I can honestly say I have never been to such an unprofessional, unsafe establishment as Boskell Riding Centre my life. Our group of four fancied a quiet hack out whilst on holiday in Cornwall. Upon arrival we filled out a form detailing our ability ie one of us had never ridden a horse before, two had ridden twice and one was an advanced rider. We were told that we would be taken on a hack to the lowest level of ability which we were happy with. We were all allocated a horse based on our height and weight and were taken to a mounting block to get on. Being the advanced one of the group out of habit I checked my girth which was very loose so I pointed it out to the guide and tightened it. I am now kicking myself that I didn't take it upon myself to check the girths of the rest of the group but just put my faith in the establishment. We set off for an hours hack and soon realised none of the horses were what you would call novice rides, especially as one of the group had never even ridden before! They were constantly trotting off with no breaks and seemingly uncontrollable. The member of our group who had never ridden before mentioned on two occasions to the instructor that his saddle was slipping to one side to which he was told to put weight into the opposite stirrup for a second to straighten it up. Again at this point I am so annoyed that I didn't make him check the girth but just assumed that this would have been done as a basic safety check before leaving. On route back from our hack the instructor suggested we try a trot. At this point all 5 horses predictably took off. The saddle of the most novice rider slipped around to the horses stomach and he fell off. He was hurt and unable to get back on for 15mins. He was also unable to walk far so eventually managed to get back on the horse to get him home. On arriving back the staff were unbelievably rude and basically said a saddle slipping was just one of those things and that he didn't look hurt! Being the only horsey person in the group I pointed out that the saddle should NEVER have slipped like that and that the girth should have been checked. They insisted it was checked but they must have known as well as I did that it obviously wasn't. Their attitude was appalling and when asked if the rider involved still had to pay they wanted full payment! After 10 minutes of the obnoxious women trying to convince us that it wasn't their fault she eventually agreed to give us a £4 discount, meaning we now paid £80 instead on £84. They relied on the lack of knowledge and understanding of the majority of our group to cover their negligence. We are currently waiting in A&E. When we contacted the centre to inform them of our visit to a&e she said that if someone constantly leans to one side on a horse the saddle will eventually slip! (Which our group member was obviously not doing anyway). I am genuinely appalled. I'm not saying that human error doesn't occur with safety checks but this was beyond and their overall attitude was horrendous. Would obviously give no stars but the site makes me give one!

Boskell Riding Centre...a Hidden Oasis

Hidden at the top of a long drive with stunning scenery you will find this little gem, and for two nine year old girls who eat, sleep and dream horses this was perfect. The girls ride regularly and wanted some holiday riding. Welcome was warm and friendly and the owner Marsha spoke to the girls on their level and made them feel very comfortable. For their weeks holiday riding they had two lessons and one hack which I also joined in. The lesson was good in the sand school, Instruction was very clear and aimed clearly at their level, they both rode well and came away having enjoyed the lesson and were able to untack the ponies and turn them out. The hack on another day was equally pleasant with superb bridleways, lots of trotting, and the girls were chuffed to enjoy a canter.

Horses and Ponies are lovely and in good condition, stables very clean, Tack in good condition, Stable hands very friendly.

As we will now be regular visitors to the area we will be frequenting Boskell Riding Centre often. Thank you

I Think Boskell Is The Best Place In The World To

I think Boskell is the best place in the world to ride, the people are friendly and so are the horses. I've riden at boskell for 8-9 years now and have only fallen of 2 but people say to be a good rider you have to fall of atleast 7 times. I have fallen off and riden many other different horses but none of them compare to the horses there! Its the best riding school anyone could ask for and i have learnt so much! And the people who have written coments about falling off loads its NOT THE HORSES ITS YOU!!!!!!! xx
