Wouldn't Go Anywhere Else!

After the school holidays I've been looking for ways to keep the children entertained and out of trouble and Glen Jakes is definitely the solution to my problem! I first saw them through their Facebook page which is a must follow for any mum's and dad's out there looking to get a cheeky deal on their lessons every now and then as well as competitions for free lessons! My daughter showed me one of the videos they'd put up called the 'Baby Shark Challenge' and we were laughing at how fun and silly it was but noticed how lovely the horses were so I decided to book myself and her a lesson and I was certainly not disappointed! The staff were very professional and helpful but also made sure we had fun and you could clearly tell that they knew their roles. My daughter loved every second of it and was smiling the whole time! I can't believe how well the horses are cared for and how well behaved they are! It's a must for any parent who wants to make sure their kids stay active and have fun whilst doing it as well as anyone who just wants to ride in general, we've learnt so much during our couple of months there and it is definitely a life skill we will never forget! As an added bonus it's even worn my daughter out a bit so me and the wife can watch TV downstairs and have some quiet time whilst she's asleep; winner winner! Although now my daughter keeps pestering us to get her a horse for Christmas haha so I've told her that she'll have to pass their Stable Management courses because I want her to treat her own horse the way the staff at Glen Jakes do!

I can't wait for our next lesson next week!!!

Highly Reccommend

I had my first experience with Glen Jakes riding school today after seeing a poster about them so thought I will give them a try. All I can say is that I am amazed, so glad I went. The staff are great and friendly. The horses seem to be well looked after. The whole operation runs smooth. They made my experience with them easy from booking in right up to having my lesson. They have so much on offer from group lessons to privates all at an affordable cost. I will definately be sending my children there for their stable management courses through the school holidays. Well done Glen Jakes you have got yourselves another regular customer.

My Favourite Place

I have ridden at Glen Jakes weekly for around 18 months now. I ride in the Intermediate/Advanced hour group lesson and really enjoy the variety of content within the lessons. I ride several different horses and love the challenge of riding a new horse. The theme of the week is a fab idea as I like to see what I will be learning in my lesson and what the intended outcome is.

I thoroughly enjoy my lessons and it is the perfect way to have some me time away from a hectic family life

Excellent

It was my daughters 12th birthday today and booked a last minute hack. She hadn't been to these stables before. However wow excellent customer service, made so welcome. Excellent facilities. She went on a hack and had an amazing experience. Couldn't get her words out quick enough too describe her experience. Thank you so much. Will be definitely be back again and would highly recommend. Keep on doing what you all do. Thank you so much again.

On Balance

On balance I would say Glen Jakes is a school that ticks a lot of boxes. I've been around horses a lot but not ridden for many years and and despite looking forward to getting back in the saddle, I was an apprehensive returning rider. I booked a half our assessment, got assigned a horse that was bang on for my creaky ability and temprement preference at the moment. My instructor was friendly and good at what she does. I'm now having a few more half hour privates to get my confidence and skills back up before I join a group. The criteria for me choosing a school are: how are the horses kept, how many different instructors are you likely to have, and outdoor v indoor schooling. Facilities at bigger schools like Carrington are amazingly impressive but I don't want to waste the first 15 minutes of a lesson having yet another instructor assess me before we get cracking, unfortunately that's what happens at a bigger place. I also don't like horses being kept in the equivalent of loose boxes in all weathers, rather than stabled or stalled up in barns which happens at other schools. Indoor v. outdoor...I suppose indoor is great if the weather is bad but in places that only have one indoor arena and nothing else, you can't get booked in, and places that have both, it's the luck of the draw and you end up out in all weathers anyway. I like Glen Jakes, so far, so I'm remaining open minded.

Not Good At All

I used to have riding lessons once a week at Glen Jakes and I was almost at an advanced level until I fell off a few times while jumping in my lesson. Due to these falls, I lost my confidence in jumping and I was very nervous about jumping again. In my next lesson the horse was refusing the jumps as I kept getting tense with nerves, the instructor was not understanding at all and told me that a rider of my level should not be riding like that and ended the lesson by telling me I need to be 'more ballsy'. To this day, over a year on, I still have no confidence in jumping. Also, unfortunately, the horses stables smell bad and the fields are full of ragwort. Having said this, the school is ok with young children, however, if you want to progress in your horse riding abilities I, personally, would not recommend Glen Jakes.

I have to disagree, I know everyone has there own opinions but if you are nearly an advanced rider you must be confident to ride all kinds of horses. I have been riding for only 3 years now and I started at a beginner at Glen Jakes now I am an advance rider thanks to Glen Jakes riding school. In my opinion I think Glen Jakes is a very well looked after yard with all different types of horses and I have to my riding.

Great Riding School For Everyone

I ride at glen jakes and I have to say, it is an amazing riding school. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the instructors are all brill and the horses are lovely. All the staff know all the horses and riders very well. I would definitely recommend this amazing riding school to anyone from complete beginner to advanced, from 4 years old to 50+ . There is also an indoor viewing area with drinks and snacks available to buy which is very handy for when the weather isn't at its best and there is a big choice of activities like hacks, walkouts, courses etc. etc.

over all it's just a great place to have a good time. I always come home smiling after my lessons :D

Excellent Riding School

I have ridden at many places before (reddish vale, carrington) and nothing compares to glen jakes. Warm and welcoming staff, amazing lesson and a good variety of horses. Lesson are affordable, fun and teach more than a years worth of riding a reddish vale ever did! Ignore the bad comments- just not horsey people being petit . The horse are treated very well, just not the cleaness yard I've been to but we are talking about horses here!!! Don't bother going to reddish vale as they are very petit and boring- compelte waste of time going there

Experianced Rider Says Its Brilliant!

I am 18 years old and have been riding horses since the age of 6. I first learnt to ride horses at Glen Jakes Ridding school, a place where I had enjoyed many parties, and wished to commit to riding horses and pursue it. Around 2002, when I was 6 I started to ride there weekly in 30 minute lessons. I never felt intimidated- although a shy child- and felt as though I could progress and move up levels at my own pace. after a few months of going to the riding school the staff knew me and my mum (who brought me each week) by name, who my favourite horses were, and what my strengths and weakness were.

Skip forward afew years and at around 11 years old I had advanced into the top riding group, where I had made friends with both the other riders and my riding teacher (although no longer there anymore) I stopped riding at glen jakes at round 13 years old, although continued to ride friends horses and on holiday etc.

Started riding again at 16, and after going for a half hour private lesson I was assessed as fine to enter at the top level again. I now ride for one hour on a sunday. I have once again made friends in my lesson, with my teacher and with the year staff, who know me by name, my favourite horses and of course my favourite things to do in the lessons. the lessons are made as enjoyable and diverse as possible under riding school conditions. recently in the hot weather we have been able to go onto the cross country courses in the field with no extra cost.

I have also completed up to level 4 of my stable management- know how horses should be treated- and I might add that they are fine. all healthy size and shape, given a one or two week 'holiday' when needed (around 2-5 times a year I estimate depending on the amount of work the horse does)staff are all trained to a knowledgeable level and if you are unsure of anything- ask! All are happy to help. The more you express that you know the more they allow you to do! they are happy to teach you how to take off a saddle, turn out the horses etc (all when one has reached an advanced enough level)

Anyone unsure of weather to joine Glen Jakes then do! you will progress happily! all lessons are of the same ability helping to keep you both safe and confident, the staff are friendly, brilliant at teaching and if you are ever unsure always ask! if this is on the yard or in the lesson it dosnt matter! 10/10!

Dont Take Notice Of Bad Reviews On Here!

I have just started having lessons at glen jakes after having lessons in many other schools,I am an experienced rider and the last school I went to I felt I didnt learn anything but at GJ I learn constantly. The horses are well kept and staff are very friendly. I think the busyness of this school speaks for itself you have to book way in advance to get in as they are teaching flat out. If you are a experienced rider or if you actually want to learn a d progress and not just walk around a menage chatting I highly recommend to come here. I myself travel a hour to get there and pass 3 others schools I would never go to again after being to Glen Jakes. Think there are a lot of sour grapes from other riding schools on here who loose out because glen jakes seem most successful in the area!
