Another Terrible Review

I have had one cooker replaced under warrantee because the fan and circuit board needed replacement 3 times within 2 years. Now the replacement oven door has shattered. I have had enough of the poor build quality and unreliability and have concerns about the safety of the oven doors. Under no circumstances buy this product.

Wow Smeg What A Piece Of Junk

Paid a lot of money for this thinking it would be well made. We only use it lightly. Around once a year, I have to take it apart to repair inferior quality melted wiring and inferior quality melted terminals that have burnt out, this is a common problem with SMEG cookers. The gas hobs hardly ever stay lit and you have to take them out and apart and clean the contacts about once a year. It looks nice and that is it. Service from SMEG is the worst and rudest. Only one of the ovens work. most of the lights and fittings do not work and are broken. Hinges have been replaced and now need replacing again. I really wish I did not buy this cooker.

Not As Bad As It Is Painted!

I have now had my Smeg A2 since 1998, over 15 years of continuous service. The hob runs on LPG. It has not been perfect - all of the 6 flame failure devices and 4 sparkers have been replaced.

We mostly use the fan oven, it has had 3 elements. It went bang when some of the connectors at the back melted. I rewired bits of it and it was OK. This was repeated again recently. This is probably caused by the erratic functioning of the cooling fan. I need to replace a thermostat.

Cost of parts has been very little, I got the elements on ebay. I did all of the repairs myself.

Although it is over 15 years old, it still looks like new. It is very well made, but some niggling problems give it a bad reputation. I suspect that a lot of the problems are because of poor service from repairers. I don't have that problem

I hope to still have it in another 10 years.

Very Dangerous

This has got to be the worst cooker I have ever had, only had the cooker for about a year , already had to buy three new inner glass doors as they just explode, one of the hobs only works occasionally, the oven will just cut off and wont restart for hours, you have too keep checking your food every second as in minutes it could be burnt yet at other times it will take forever,at times when your cooking it smells like your foods burning smoke will seep out of the door, yet when you look your foods still raw, your just left with an extremely smokey kitchen that stinks.I have cleaned it so many times yet it still happens.I have had people to look at it and replace parts but it hasnt helped. But the worst was when my children where making cakes so preheated the oven ,after about 5 mins of it being switched on the whole inner glass and outer glass just exploded luckily the children where on the other side of the kitchen but unfortunalely I was not and got alot of burning hot glass in my legs luckily the children didnt get hurt, since then I have brought a new cooker, as I just became to scared of it,this is the first time I have ever complained about anything on a review site, but feel I should warn anybody considering buying this cooker to beware this is dangerous please dont buy.

What A Piece Of Rubbish This Cooker Is

Just one more review adding to the comments about what a piece of rubbish this cooker is. I just cannot believe that Smeg can get away with producing such inferior goods for what is obviously years. I was almost reassured to know that it wasn't just me who couldn't understand when sometimes it burnt stuff in the oven when the previous week at same time and temp it had cooked just fine. You can never know with this oven what you are going to get.

Smeg A2 Dual Range

We purchased this oven with the sale of our new house 5 years ago. It hadn't been used. I have been so disappointed by the appliance. The large grill has never worked correctly.... Very very slow. The thermostat went after 2 years and has never worked correctly since. I could only have a smeg repair person to look at it which wasn't cheap and smeg were not interested in it working correctly as i hadn't purchased it myself even though it was within warranty time. The temperature Of the oven does not remain consistent and can't bake anything in it. Don't but complete rubbish wish I had a range master or belling range.

I Am Strangely Reassured That I Am Not The Only On

I am strangely reassured that I am not the only one that has had so many problems with their SMEG A2 cooker. After a string of niggles this week the inner glass exploded for no apparent reason so am currently looking to replace it along with a new element. The main oven has overheated and then cut out on a number of occasions for no reason (still don't know why), the burners blistered within the first couple of months and so did the replacements and the controls have never been tight enough to know for certain what setting you are using. on one of the early cleans I also managed to wipe away all of the markings so now have to guess which burner I am lighting! Having read the other reviews I can say with some confidence that in the 10 years we've had the cooker we've experienced virtually every quirk listed by other owners.

Over The 10 Years We Have Had It, I Have Spent Mor

Over the 10 years we have had it, I have spent more in repairs than the cost of the oven - from electrical switches, grill not working (numerous times), oven not working, rotisserie never ever did work and we never used it all. It is the worst oven I have ever owned.

O My God... I'm So Glad That I'm Not The Only One

O my God... i'm so glad that i'm not the only one with a very unreliable piece of expensive rubbish! Mine is an A1.1 model however but we've had our oven for over 8years now and we've had numerous amounts of problems! electrical, fans, grill etc. our recent BIG gripe has started 4 years ago, the inner glass door has spontaneously combusted on us 3 times whilst the oven is on at high temperature!!! My daughter was standing next to the oven door when it happened once, scared the living daylight out of her! I believe one of the reviewer has the same problem below? SMEG customer services have absolute no interest in helping except offering a list of registered engineer... I'm angry as hell because the glass panel is made from Italy... SMEG's www.servevastdirect.co.uk displays 'in stock' as we ordered online but an email later saying they have no stock!!.... twice they have done this! they said that the panel might not be in stock till after XMAS!!! BL**DY ridiculous!!! WORSE OVER RATED BRAND EVER!

ps. same unreliable rubbish with their fridge too!!! had it replaced twice and temperature control is none... either freezes or not cold enough! leaks at the back!
