Rancilio Silvia

The Rancilio Silvia machines are great - when they work! I bought one from a company called Caffe Italia in September 2009. It arrived and the pump was dysfunctional. I returned it and after a month I was sent another which worked well for just over 3 months when it stopped heating the water. OK, it looks stylish and when working it's possible to make great espresso and cappucino but reliability seems to be a problem - certainly in my experience. As a matter of interest I previously used an ex-display Gaggia Classic which functioned reliably for over 3 years. I'll be digging that out of the cupboard while the Rancilio goes back for more repairs. I'm now thinking of selling my Rancilio and going back to the trusty old Classic full time.

I have owned this machine for over 7 years and only now is it beginning to get a bit tired. It has started to leak when I'm making the expresso so I get a watery coffee.

Just like the most of the Silvia users, I love my Rancilio Silvia. Have loved my Silvia for over 6 years of daily use, am now looking into the PID temp control as well as the pressure mod. Big Bang for Buck choice.

The Rancilio Silvia Coffee Machine is not a machine for beginners...needs a lot of practice to make a good espresso; look up on the net rather than relying on the (basic) manual. If you are looking for a beautiful machine that will last and last...this could be the one!

I love Rancilio Silvia! It's a time-consuming business but satisfying.

The Rancilio Silvia is perhaps the closest thing you can get to a commercial machine without the hassels of plumbing and long warm up times. Rancilio have used brass in all the right spots and you only have to look at the Silvia's weight (14kg)compared to other domestic machines to see where your $$ are going. Having worked in hospitality making coffees for several years I wouldn't recommend anything else - support the manufacturers that are 'keeping it real'!

The Rancilio Silvia is a robust, domestic espresso machine which is manufactured by one of Italy's leading commercial machine makers. It has excellent build quality (brushed stainless steel bodywork), a 2.5 litre water tank and has been praised as one of the best domestic machines on the market.
