I was about to hook my unit up but thought I'd search for some maintenance recommendations as all I've done in the past was clean the filter. .....

I'm really surprised at the negative reviews - have I been lucky ? Well I suppose that if there are issues people want to vent and warn others - those of us who are happy with this machine probably wouldn't take the effort. But seeing these negative ones I had to share my positive experience with it. I'm happy, money was well spent, its got me through 6 summers of heat -Vancouver hasn't had a reputation for extended heat waves but seems like they are progressively getting longer - last summer was the longest period of regular use about 2.5 -3 months.

So fingers crossed on that compressor issue someone mentioned - I will contact the company in that regard to see if my machine qualifies. I presume they addressed that issue with any newer compressor - no company wants to deal with mechanical failures.

I purchased an Amcor portable air Conditioner and used it on a limited basis for 2 summers. Contrary to claims, it was very loud...I could not use it when playing music, having a conversation, watching TV etc. and had to be out of the room while it was on. The first year the cooling unit worked to a limited extent,the 2nd summer it had barely any effect and the motor got louder. When I turned it on the 3rd summer, the cooling function did not work at all and the motor sounded like a freight train! I called/emailed the Plasma Cool Troubleshooting office several times and the only advice I received was to "try unplugging and replug it", which had no effect. This was the only so-called "assistance" I ever received! Thereafter, whenever I tried to contact the company my calls/emails were ignored. I then had an air conditioner repair technician examine it and he found that there was a defect in the inner coils and that the freon had completely leaked out. I tried repeatedly to contact the Plasma Cool people again, to no avail. After spending over $700 on this machine, I had to throw it in the garbage. DO NOT BUY AN AIR CONDITIONER FROM THIS COMPANY!

the compressor has a 5 year warranty but when mine went I had to arrange shipping to Winnipeg at my cost.

The unit is not light and not worth the cost to send back. you don't see that n the warranty

The Plasma Cool is a piece of junk, lower fan broke in just under two years. Could not provide my original receipt so I am out $600.00 dollars.

Would never buy another item from this manufacturer.

Bought this 2 years ago. One year later,the bottom fan shattered in pieces.

Amcor send a replacement. Being a mechanic, I replaced it myself and from a maintenance point of view this is one of the worst I've seen.

the plastic used to make these fans is very brittle and with temperature variations over time combined with a very weak structure make it very prone to vibrations and eventually failure will occur.In my case the bottom fan didn't last more than 100 hours of operation the first year and not more than 75 the second time.The upper fan however is more sturdy and of a different design did not failed yet.Having spend 700 dollars, I will have to find a better fan of same dimensions and modify it to fit it in.Not very complicated for a mechanic but if you hate getting your hands dirty , you should look for alternatives.

lastly, my old 10000BTU Maytag window unit cooled down my apartment faster and quieter than the plasma cool.

the only good thing about it are its looks.

Before you go and buy, please read as may reviews as you can.I know I should have.

Purchased this machine (Plasma Cool PC-14E) in 2010 from Canadian Tire for about $700.

We used the machine for 2 1/2 months and then put it away for the season. When we turned it back on the following May, the compressor made grinding noises and it was very loud. My husband contacted the manufacturer and we were told there was a known defect with the compressor.

After 8 months we had a replacement unit free of charge. We had to email and call numerous times to get the replacement as the person dealing with us changed more than once.

The replacement unit was loud from the very beginning but at least it blew cool air at us. We used it for the summer season (May-September) and then put it away for the winter.

This summer the troubles have begun again. It is currently leaking onto my carpet and emitting a rotting meat smell.

I will never buy this machine or a machine like it again and would strongly recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing this that they save their money.

bought this hoping it would be better than the siemens, but no it was even worse.. very loud (not "quiet" as advertised), be warned: the cooling power is not as advertised on most websites, Amcor make their specs sound higher by providing non-standard measurements of cooling capacity. Cooling power is very low. It's not as pictured anywhere, in fact the unit is large and bulky, with a very bulky part round the back that is not shown on any photos. The wheels are too small and too fragile to support its weight. I would have liked to have known all of this before purchase, if so I would not have purchased.

WARNING BEWARE I purchased my plasma cool in June 2010. Returned it June 28th they received July 2. Today is August 2nd. I had selected the 3 payment plan. They charged the 2nd payment to my card after they received the unit back and today another charge. So they have the unit and $600.00 of my money. I called today and they could not talk to me as it was a Canadian Holiday. They could only take a message. I called back and Jennifer called me back. Funny thing, she could sell me a unit today but I could not speak to anyone about my refund. DO NOT BUY PLASMA COOL AIR CONDITIONER

hello there. recently received delivery of plasma cool pc 14e (no shipping cost) and have been using it for 5 weeks now. was unsure about the hoopla over no drain technology that this ac claims, but now am an avid believer.
