AEG Santo 3688 KA6

I bought this fridge mainly because I liked how it looked. My bachelor pad would look great with a stainless steel cover for my beer and my ready meals. I thought nothing of shelling out double the going rate because it was... German. In hindsight I wish I bought a cheap one. This thing packed up after a few years' use. Apparantly the average life expectancy of a fridge is around 19 years so this one managed about a fifth of that. Save save your money and avoid this manufacturer. I was quoted £150 to repair it plus parts. Result: Binned. Advice: read the reviews and forget your preconceptions about German quality, it's a bit like recent well-known German cars, overpriced and fault ridden.

I would say that AEG is one of the better kitchen appliance brands and I have been generally pleased with this Santo 3688 KA6 fridge. But the unit does not defrost automatically and, even if it did, it is just plain crazy not to include any consumer advice on defrosting in the manual.

I do not like the AEG Santo 3688 KA6. It is a terrible fridge, it does not defrost properly. Would not buy again particularly at this price.

The AEG Santo is well made and stylish and I would recommend it whole heartedly save for the major problem listed under bad points. It takes me half a day and a bottle of Meltaway rapid deicer to partly dismantle the frdige by removing the covers over the cooler unit of the back lining of the unit and leaving it to thaw.

I have the matching freezer unit and that is really good but the problem is that I need and new fridge and then I will not have a matching pair.

I experienced poor service team members except for when taking my money. Seems Electrolux have a poor opinion of it's customers. I will never ever buy AEG again.

The AEG Santo 3688 is nicely styled and looks good in the kitchen with the rest of my stainless appliances.

Supposed to be one of the best German electrical companys, I think that they are trying to get back at us for winning ww2. A lot of money when it breaks down about every 18 months/2years.

I purchased the AEG SANTO 3688-6 KA three years ago and since day one this unit has been awful. Do not buy this or the new range. You may wonder why AEG have discontinued this unit after such a short time, its terrible. The main problem is the digital display, it over freezes everything in the fridge and then decides to come up with a whole array of unknown symbols. I had AEG service people out on countless ocassions at £70 a shot and they have confirmed "this is a know problem but I'll try my best." This company Service Force should be called Service Farce, they are just the worse, and you can understand why AEG have chosen them, just as bad as each other. The engineer in the end ruined the complete fridge and I have been living with this for some time, i.e. switching it off every month, defrosting it, then using it, then calling out the engineer again as it was totally screwed, now however, it has given up as in no lights no nothing and I'm am negotiating a new unit "contribution exchange" with AEG, which basically means they can give me a new one at half the price seen as they can't fix it. Stay clear of this and any refrigeration product made by AEG. The stainless steel looks great, but in future I will just stick to a bog standard normal white plastic fridge. I haven't even started on the AEG freezer which has also packed up.

Avoid at all costs, we have had this item just over four years and have had two major failures in that time. The latest has been the gas has leaked and as a result the fridge is now completely useless and has to be binned.

Response from AEG is appalling, arrogant and just not interested. They have flatly refused to answer my calls, have not responded to emails or letter and eventually when i got a response it was rude voicemail basically telling me where to go!!!

Avoid at all costs.

If I did not have a matching freezer I wound not hesitate to throw my AEG Santo 3688 KA6 fridge out. It started to freeze up at the back. I had 5 visits by repairers, and it has cost several hundred pounds, but it is still the same. AEG have just offered me a part ex, as they say it is uneconomical to repair.
