Fridge Keeps Freezing And Now Running Constantly

This fridge is only 18months old and has been nothing but trouble from the start. The setting has been on 1 and still the fridge freezes and now the fridge is running constantly.

The door constantly sags when bottles are put in the door storage area and the general build quality is poor. Hotpoint want 120 pounds for repair even though there is a 5 year parts warranty. This is the same price if you don't have the parts warranty in which case is this a false warranty from Hotpoint? Hotpoint also offered a repair cost of 14.99 a month for a years warranty making a total repair cost of just under 180 pounds.

Off to buy another fridge and it won't be Hotpoint!!

Same problem for last few years, the dial setting is of no use, it freezes up most of the time, yesterday I fitted a new replacement thermostat that cost £18, however as it is of the same design as the original I hope it lasts, one thing I have found is that these type of thermostats are not at all reactive, unlike say a room thermostat, turning the dial and nothing happening is not very reassuring!

If you want to replace your thermostat undo the four screws under the lip above the door, be careful at the hinge end, just unscrew a bit as the door will fall away, you have to gently prise away the facia unit pulling down, a slim knife blade helps, take note of the wiring connections, undo the locking nut and ease off the plastic clips that hold the thermostat in place and gently pull out the capillary tube, when unwinding the replacement capillary, make sure you unroll it gently to to straighten out to avoid any kinks, insert back into the guide tube and push gently in, you will need to bend it carefully it at a right angle at the thermostat end, don't forget to re fit the dial before pushing the thermostat in place, the facia is a bit of a fiddle to get back in place so a slim knife blade again will help ease the plastic lip into position, I searched the net for this information without success so good luck.

Poor Design Or Shoddy Components.

Having bought a Hotpoint RLA34 larder fridge to fit in a new kitchen it was over a year before we finally moved in and start to use it, at first I thought it was just a colder fridge than I had been used too, its now been in use for about 8 months, however today having noticed water dripping from under the bottom of the door, I discovered a massive lump of ice on the back wall of the fridge, and now having checked the thermostat, find that even at its lowest setting with the fridge already very cold the motor is still continuing to run!

I have never had any trouble with any of the 6 or so fridge's I have purchased over the years at such an early stage in its life, having looked on the net I find a fair number of other people have had cause to complain about this model...I would never recommend it to anyone.

This is my second fridge same model in 10 years and would never buy or reccomend this. I should have realised after the first one. Water dripping from door I constantly had to put kitchen roll to absorbe it, plus the back of fridge kept freezing up and was so noisy.

A waste of money. My original larder fridge which is now 22years old is in my garden shed and still working, only ever replaced the thermostat once.

Funnily enough I have had exactly the same problem with ice forming on the back wall and pools of water under the salad compartments and dripping out of the door. My fridge however cannot get cold enough now it's almost lukewarm even on it's coldest setting and it makes enough noise to wake the dead .... so it's going to have to go. Quite frankly - it's not good enough especially when you think how technology has moved on in the past 20years. Fridges in the old days back in the 70's were built to last for 20+ years. This one isn't even 5years old yet and although the interior and exterior look brand new and untouched still, it's useless. I think this is disgraceful. Like you - I wouldn't recommend this Hotpoint Model to anyone ... even my worst enemy!

The Fridge Has A Mind Of Its Own, We Have Owned It

The fridge has a mind of its own, we have owned it for 2 years now and had nothing but trouble. they recommend level 3 as a ideal temperature setting but even on level 2 in summer the fridge decides to randomly freeze food and drink (fine if it had a freezer section but it doesn't), it is impossible to maintain an consistent temperature even when the fridge is only a 1/4 full. For a company that prides itself in white goods manufacturing how can they make a larder fridge so badly. simply not fit for purpose. they should concentrate on quality and forget about random OEM manufacturing.

The shelves had water all over them, again hotpoint came out and told me, wait for it? there is no fault with the fridge its my own doings, becouse i let my food touch the back of the fridge ? how bloody funny, never heard any thing like it before.now trying to get an exchange from currys.if not will go thought small claims.should of been told that my food was not to come in contact with the back of the fridge, once i close the door how do i know if my food touches the back of fridge? mybe they hotpoint should put some kind of warning light on the door ?

I'm Not Totally Surprised By The Quality Of This H

I'm not totally surprised by the quality of this Hotpoint RLA34 fridge, given the make. However, the apparent error by the design engineers for the type of produce expected to be placed in the door storage area, such as 4/6 pint milk containers and other containers of food and drink, is poor. Such load bearing brackets holding the door on are inadequate and poorly mounted, giving rise to the door sagging against its hinges when open and not meeting the fridge main body flush when closing. This lead to the fridge unit not sealing properly, either allowing the door to swing open once the seal completely fails (usually when you have left the kitchen) and for the fridge to work that extra bit harder to keep the interior at the appropriate temperature.I will not be replacing this fridge with the same make/model

Absolutely Terrible Customer Service From Hotpoint

Absolutely terrible customer service from Hotpoint- Avoid like the plague!!!

Fridge broke after 7 months- would not cool. After 2 visits Hotpoint engineer finally diagnosed faulty thermostat. Took over two weeks to get repaired. 12 hours later fridge broken again- not cooling again. Hotpoint then said it was not faulty thermostat, and thought it was condenser which needed replacing. Next appointment was 8 days later. On day of repair, Hotpoint telephoned to say Engineer had not collected part from depot and would not be coming to fix it. Next available appointment offered was another 8 days later. At that point we told them where to stick their fridge! Had now been without a fridge for over a month. Have asked Hotpoint for new fridge or full refund- nothing forthcoming. Now going to small claims court to recoup cost of fridge, ruined food and new fridge we have been forced to buy. Customer service was worse than dreadful.
