Work Horse

History-

Had this machine now for knocking on roughly 20 years. This poor thing has been on almost continuously. When we got it we were just starting our family. As they grew, 1x is a plasterer and 1x a mechanic.

Problems-

1, Ooriginal dryer heater had the L shaped heater which shook loose on its mounting causing a bad rattle.

2, Display failed.

3, Drum bearings

4, Dryer heater blocked

Repairs-

1, Replaced dryer assembly with the coil style heater type.

2, Display fitted with a current limiting resistor in the back light supply. Fault looks like solder dry joints inside display. Still working now..

3, Rear drum, spider, spider bolts, drum pully bolt and drum half seal replaced. Done this now 4x times.

Had its faults but bloody hell it's had some stick. No regrets buying. Yes I am a fully qualified electronics engineer.

Mines Worked Very Well Considering Other Reviews

I've had this washer dryer for about 2 years and the only thing that's broken is the dryer function. It just doesn't heat up for the dryer function to work. Besides that all has worked as well as expected. Mine is quiet compared to machines that I've had before. I can only hear it when in the same room or if my house is completely silent and then I only hear the spin cycle. The only issue I have with the drawer, is that occasionally the fabric softener compartment will remain filled with water. This is usually due to the gunk (combination of softener, powder, water and I imagine limescale) so I remove the drawer and give it a clean out, which normally resolves the issue. While the dryer function not working may be inconvenient, it's not the end of the world and actually saves me a little money by making me more energy efficient. I got this machine as used condition from a local man who repairs washers and dryers, I'm quite satisfied with it and would even recommend it if it's reasonably priced. But I would also advise that while a washer dryer is ideal for saving space, they are known for having faults anyway.

I only came on trying to find out the specifications for a water bill form.... Anyone know if this is a standard machine or a water saving one etc???

Seems We Were Lucky With This Eccentric Machine

Bought from Comet auction site a few years back and machine was used about every 3 weeks or so. Apart from having to clear fluff from filter a couple of times it worked adequately for about 5 years. However, time seemed elastic to it, display showed remaining time as 2 minutes for 15 minutes at times or remaining time suddenly increased during cycle. The drying function was often less effective than hanging things over the bath in Winter (perhaps Hotpoint can explain why a drying function involves adding water ?). Did have a tendency to shred certain fabrics if large load washed. Some supposed functions seemed to be not what they said.

Today was greeted by machine refusing to fill and error message on display. This fault means new control board required so having costed it, it's new machine time and it won't be a Hotpoint.

Total And Absolute Garbage!

This machine is the worst washing machine EVER to be brought on the market! noisier than a boeing 747, you could dry your clothes quicker if you put them out in a storm and would end up with same result after three hours...soaking wet clothes! all in all it's about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike! only buy if you have an amazing sense of humour....and a deathwish.

How Is This Possible!?!

Firstly, this washing machine is not silent, it sounds like a monster truck is powering through my kitchen.

Secondly, it it impossible to get it to do what you want, for example you can't get it to do just a dry or just a spin. It does indicate this is possible in the instructions but when you follow them to make it do a drying program, the first thing it does it the full on monster truck spin cycle, for what seems like an eternity.

Thirdly, the spin....seriously...how long does a washing machine need to spin at 1600 rpm for? I swear, the thing goes off on a full on spin for 45 minutes at a time, then when you think it's finished, the relief from the noise is huge, then it just starts up again at full spin all over again, and again, it must be broken.

It is the worst washing machine ever, I'll never be buying anything hotpoint again. We are getting rid, asap and buying something better.

Lucky It Lasted So Long

I would l like to state that this is the first time I have ever written, or felt compelled to write, a review of any sort. If I'd read this review forum I'd never have bought a Hotpoint WD860 washer/dryer in the first place; having always looked for combined value for money and quality in the past, one should feel safe when purchasing what is seen as a 'Flagship' product. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, I feel lucky my machine has lasted so long, although being a single middle aged man and working away a lot may explain this. Given some of the bad experiences I've read, I've been fortunate that my machine performed well for the first year or two, in fact this would appear to be exceptional. Using the machine once or twice a week for some shirts and bed sheets is hardly hard use, and to be honest many machines are expected to be used every day. So, after approximately 150-200 wash cycles, often quick washes, the problems began. Bearings began to hum, quickly turned to a whine, and finally rumbling so loud I could not hear the T.V. in the living room with the machine in the kitchen, I'm not open plan! The machine finally stopped, oh, it was kind enough to do this whilst full of water and clothes. I think it appropriate Hotpoint have called this machine 'Ultima super silent' as it demonstrates perfectly their sense of irony; 'super' it is not, 'silent' not for very long, and as for 'Ultima' usually associated with 'ultimate' or 'the end', well, it's the "ultimate" disaster as a machine and the "end" of my purchasing Hotpoint ever again. If my machine had been used every day, I would be writing this after just six months of use. Hotpoint should be ashamed to have released this product onto the market, and given some of the other very dangerous problems I've read, lucky to have not been responsible for the death of an individual or family. I'm sure many of the issues within these reviews would have come to light during product developement and testing, but I'm sure many a director has found a scape goat to fire lower in the food chain at Hotpoint. Do not buy this machine and research very carefully any purchase involving Hotpoint.

Avoid

Have had Hotpoint WD860 since 2007 - from day one we had issues! The "super silent" machine is anything but! Sounds akin to a jumbo jet taking off, or someone shovelling a bag of stones into the drum!

Within the first months, we had them out to replace the motherboard. Took out the extended warranty with D & G and have since had them out numerous times (cant remember exactly how often, but since Sept last year, they have been 11 times and I am currently awaiting a senior engineer to visit on Monday!

The mega issue I have now is, Indesits policy is if it can be fixed, they will fix it - doesnt matter how long the "fix" lasts - I had an engineer out last Friday - he "fixed" it, for it to break on Saturday.... I re-booked and had another engineer out yesterday (Tuesday), he "fixed" it, and it broke today (Wednesday).

I have spent today being pinged back and forth between Indesit and D&G, each saying only the other could authorise a replacement - they are sending a senior engineer out on Monday and must give me a decision as to whether it is cost effective for them to continue fixing it. I have a sneaking suspicion, he will probably "fix" it.... until the next time it goes wrong, probably next Wednesday!!!

I have 4 children, myself and my other half, we cannot continue with a machine that is broken more often than it isn't - they just don't seem to get that though! ABSOLUTE JOKE!!!

Steer well clear!

Hotpoint Wd860 A Nightmare

We had it for 4 years and it's been a nightmare, water comming from soap, main control do not stop, so it washes for 3 hours when end start again, and if you not at home it will washes forever... When at spin program it still take on water...good, it look like it has is own mind...and all that start exactly when warranty finishes...1 year after. Right now I will replace it with other wash machine from different make...like bosh or Miele.

Is This A Dryer ????

I have never known a dryer that takes in water before it starts drying.

Is it a faulty dryer ? or is it normal for a dryer to take up to 3 hours!! The three choices of settings are all the same/useless. I had a set of towels which were almost dry on the washing line. I put them into the dryer to "finish them off" Set the dryer to cupboard dry. Bingo it started to take in water!!! 30 minutes later the dryer still showed 2 hours to finish. I turned the dryer off and waited. Eventually the door opened and the towels were wetter than when I put them in. Why must a dryer take 3 hours???
