Avoid Hoover Washing Machines

This is the second hoover washing machine I have bought - never again! The first one had a problem with the heating element after just over a year and then had problem after problem, I then bought a Zanussi which lasted 16 years ! I bought the Hoover OPH714D because I liked the large load capacity and its looks, I also thought I'd probably just been unlucky with the first one - unfortunately this wasn't the case. Just over a year it developed a fault with the 90 degree wash and boiled every thing to death, then the 60 degree wash started to play up, code E03 mainly but it was draining so found this confusing, now it can't do any washes, I am reluctant to spend money to repair the machine when I can probably buy a new one for not much more.

Hoover & The One Penny Problem

I have just had an unbelievable conversation with Hoover washing machines. We have a brand new washing machine that we bought 6 weeks ago and have just been told we need to spend £150 repairing it because a 20p coin was left in a pocket. Basically, I have been told categorically by the customer care team at Hoover that this is a known (and accepted) issue - they are knowingly selling washing machines which they know are likely to brake seriously (ie at a cost of over £150) if something as small as a 1p coin or a metal button (from a child’s dungarees, for example) is accidently put in the drum. From my conversations with them, this is a common problem and they are fully aware that machines are not of a good enough quality to withstand even a one pence coin. The build of the machines is such that a coin can pass from the internal metal drum through to the plastic outer drum; at high spin speeds this coin or button can make a hole in the plastic drum which will cause all the water to come out. The plastic drum will then need to be completely replaced. Other manufacturers use metal for an outer case which prevents this problem. Families are obviously not being made aware of this when they are purchasing these machines in good faith. Neither does the Service Guarantee mention anything at all about foreign bodies in the machine, although apparently leaving a 1p coin in a pocket is categorised as ‘misuse’ of a washing machine. I was told that families should really take out the ‘extra warranty’ to cover this known problem or even use laundry bags (this is obviously not mentioned in their service booklet)! To me, this indicates that Hoover are aware that their machines are not of robust quality and therefore not really fit for purpose. I think this is disgraceful for consumers and obviously something Hoover knows all about. I would certainly have thought twice about buying a Hoover machine if I had known this to be a problem.

Won't Buy Hoover Again!

This machine looked great, reasonable price, 7kg wash load, quick wash etc. However looks aren't everything! After a year it started displaying random error messages. We couldn't remove the filter which was jammed and had to call someone out to fix it (not Hoover). Cost £100 to remove filter and fit a new pump. Now it is displaying E14 message which comes up at end of the cycle. I have just found out that this is a heating circuit problem and I have been washing in cold water for the last month. Very disappointed. Contacted Hoover - not interested as outside the 1 year warranty which they say is more than adequate. After reading other reviews this would not seem to be the case and should you decide to buy this machine then take out the extended warranty because I am sure you will need it.

Loved It, But So Many Faults

Bought this machine when my son was 4 days old, and almost exactly on his 2nd birthday it began to be faulty. Faults are:-

1.Wont accept conditioner

2. Says E07 all the time, to get round this and unlock machine have to switch off or set to the drain programme.

3. Fills up with water when door open and machine not in use.

4. Now saying E02

5. Washing soaking wet after prog has run and have to respin.

I have decided to not bother getting it fixed and to just replace. I don't buy extended warranties and the call out and parts would equal half a new machine.

Similar To Other Users We Were Let Down By A Fault

Similar to other users we were let down by a fault(s)of the 714 after two years six months of use to the control module(main Dial)and the door mechanism. Our laundry was trapped inside for days before we had a visit. We saved by not getting out extended warranty from the outset because we would have been paying for 18 months until it had developed a fault and although the charge for this repair would have cost £115, it was waived as we subscribed to their warranty plan for an additional year which will cover any eventuality for £14per month. Good value in some respects but I will most definitely choose a 'German' brand next time for reliability, vors sprung durch technik! Furthermore, the display can give out erratic readings at times, so ignore them. Also, it takes ages just to spin something if you've done a 'Hand Wash'. On a plus side it does have good features.

purchase this machine 14months ago. i live alone so there is not as much washing as in a family. my electric began to trip so i called in the electrician. this happened twice and the last time i realised i only had the washing machine on. i contacted a local appliance engineer and he told me that he thinks the brain? of the machine had gone and as this machine has a 5 year parts guarantee he told me to contact hoover. this i did its costing £110 call out charge. they do offer a guarantee call out charge for £15.90 per month for 10months. this machine cost over £300 and lasted 1 person washing for less than 14months dont buy it and i wouldnt buy another hoover/candy appliance as the cost is ttoooooooo high.

Easy To Fill The Machine And To Operate The Contro

Easy to fill the machine and to operate the controls, large load capacity, excellent wash quality compared to our last machine and the best spin performance of any of our previous automatics. Excellent performer We've had the machine some time now and its the best perfoming of all of our previous machines. The spin does whine but i dont have the expectation of a £800 machine for £280

Would not have bought this Hoover OPH714D if I realised the spin was so noisey. That's a shame because it spoils a good machine

Still not happy with spin whine. Even next door neighbour can hear it screaming like a banshee. Contacted Hoover again. They sent an engineer who says that's how they sound... I don't have delicate hearing It's not me as others have commented on the noise. As for the cat she goes into hiding when it starts. Mind you if the shrill went up one more pitch, then only she and dogs would only be able to hear it... which would be a blessing for us humans.Anyway, if you want a washing machine that sounds like a jet plane taking off on a long haul flight then this is for you. If, however, you value your sanity and ears... keep clear of this machine
