Paid a bit more for a reputable brand (or so I thought!). Dryer was next to useless and took over 3 hours to dry even half a load. Machine completely blew up after 4 years and is irrepairable - not impressed!

Previous Hotpoint Washing Machine Was Very Reliabl

Previous Hotpoint washing machine was very reliable and lasted 16 years so decided to buy another Hotpoint. Purchased the Ultima WMA 60 eight years ago at a cost of £400+. It gradually became increasingly noisy when spinning the clothes and eventually had to have a new drum assembly fitted 3 years after purchase at a cost of over £100. It has never been a quiet washing machine but it has become irritatingly noisy again when spinning. The washed clothes are also now coming out of the machine with tiny yellowy orange oily marks on them and ruining them. I'm fed up with the machine and am reluctant to spend more money on having it repaired so have decided to buy a new one but as the build quality of most washing machines is so poor I don't know which make to go for but I do know that I won't be buying another Hotpoint.

I Have Been Using This Hotpoint Ultima Wma60 For 3

I have been using this Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 for 3.5 years now doing an average of 10 loads a week (five loads each over 2 days) and have never had even the slightest problem! The machine belonged to a customer of mine and she has now passed the machine on to me as she has had her kitchen replaced and the Hotpoint doesn't match! It is still working perfectly and I am really pleased with it! I would say do not buy a Servis machine as I had all problems with one of those that have been listed for the WMA.

My Hotpoint Ultima Wma60 Has Broken Down Many Time

My Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 has broken down many times since we bought it about 3 years ago. We have had pump failures, needed a new drum and the paddles inside needed replacing as they had broken off and chewed the clothes etc. Pump has just gone again halfway through a wash cycle leaving the machine full of water. Have had to drain it manually using the hose at the back just to get the washing out.

When it is working we are quite happy with its performance, however it is just too unreliable. We wouldn't buy it again.

I am so glad I spotted your review about the Hotpoint Ultima WMA60 washing machine. It prompted me to read the others too. Hotpoint Ultima was one of the machines I had been looking at, as my present machine is probably about to die soon. I think I will pass it by!

Never Ever Ever Will I Buy Another Hotpoint Ultima

Never ever ever will I buy another Hotpoint Ultima WMA60.

1) The door rim is covered in gunge, which dirties the clothes as I take them out - and the wife cleans it regularly

2) The noise of this machine in intolerable. I CANT EVEN HEAR MYSELF THINK!

3) Terrible smell coming from the machine. Hoses not blocked, cause the machine drains ok. Anyone any ideas?

4) The tray for softner liquid always blocks and therefore never gets into the wash

Since your review was written in 2006 and now it`s 2008 you`ve probably scrapped the m/ch by now. But for the unfortunate amongst you who own a hotpoint wma (the whole wma series of models) I can tell you that drum bearing failure (the noise on spin) is vv common mainly because their is a design fault(actually there are several-snapping drum paddles is one other one). These models used to come with a free 5 years part warranty they don`t anymore as far as i know. In the trade it is rumoured that it cost hotpoint/merloni appliances 5 million quid in problems. If there are any machines left under parts cover and the bearings go try and get the whole tank unit replaced as this is a spare part rather than what the engineers have been told to do which is to replace the bearings and spider(drums support spindel) only and that is only if the spider is really zapped. As to the reason why your machine smells, providing it is plumbed out right, this is now a much more common problem that it was 15 years or so ago without writting reams it comes down to not enough deterg ent being used and low temperature washing all the time.- this is a ruthlessly simplified explaination, hope this helps someone. Not much use in trying to save the planet if low h2o useage low energy useage causes m/chs to be on village tip in a few years is it????i.e. you/we gain nothing but the manufactures just gain another sale, you have to factor in the amount of energy it takes to make a new w/machine everytime a nearly new one gets chucked out. Andy 26 years as a washing m/ch engineer. Best of luck everyone.ps it not just hotpoint m/chs that suffer bearing problems early, zanussi/t.bendix,indesit,creda, do also. Very generally m/chs are way too fast for the loading they have to spin this don`t exactly help !!
