L'Oreal Prodigy Hair Colour

I used to use L'Oreal's Casting Crème Gloss until I became too grey and had to switch to a permanent hair dye. I wanted to stay within the L'Oreal hair family as I trusted their products which I had been using for 5 plus years.

The new "Prodigy" range caught my eye, and after a lot of thought and research I purchased the 6.0 Oak colour. As I already had hair colour in my hair I went with a neutral shade to minimise the risk of an adverse reaction with the dye which was in my hair, as getting rid of a Level 3 permanent colour is not as easy as a Level 2 semi permanent.

I had mixed feelings about the contents of the box - the cream colour and developer came in two different came in 2 different tubes, with the applicator bottle coming dismantled into 2 pieces which screwed together. There was also a spatula to stir the colour and developer together once in the bottom half of the applicator bottle. I did not use this. The black gloves were really difficult to get on even though I have small to medium sized hands.

It was not hard to mix the colour and developer together, but from the onset I could see that getting all of my hair covered with colour, and my hair is collarbone length.

The smell of the product was quite pleasant, and I was not put off by it at all. The texture was bit odd; in my hair it felt like putty but it dripped quite a bit. I only got the ends of my hair covered with colour by unscrewing the applicator bottle and scooping every last bit of it out by hand - a problem I never had when using Casting Crème Gloss.

The product is highly pigmented and it took me quite a while to rinse all the colour out, even with the use of a spray nozzle.

The conditioner smelt great but not overpoweringly so. However there was only enough for one application, though that is nothing new when it comes to box colours.

I was quite impressed with the results - and so was my hairdresser friend. The dye had covered all of my grey beautifully, and the colour was not flat at all, but rather lent subtle tones to my hair, which felt soft and undamaged after the process.

The range has got some amazing shades though I think that I will stick with this shade for the time being. I got a lot of complements and comments about how natural and even the colour has come out.

I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to move on from Casting Crème Gloss, or who wants a natural looking result which still covers all the greys.

The only downside is the fact that you get so little product even though there is so much packaging.
