Straps Break And Are Very Expensive To Replace.

I have owned a D2 for about 10 years. I like the watch, but the strap has now broken twice. Oakley claim that the strap is made of "unobtainium"; this is a fictional term; there is no such thing! The strap is made of a rubbery plastic.

The strap is custom made for the watch. It is not possible to go to your local watch dealer and purchase a replacement; you have to go to Oakley.

On the first occasion that the strap broke, I returned it to Oakley who replaced the strap; but this was expensive; at first they wanted £40 but after bitter complaints reduced this to £33.

On this second occasion, I will just throw the watch. I can buy a sports watch for less than the price of a replacement strap. An expensive watch such as this should have a much better strap. I will never buy another Oakley product.

Do Not Buy A Watch

Oakley make some nice watches but..........

The batteries will need replacing by them after 2 years or so. They have to replace them or your watch will not be guaranteed waterproof. It cost me £8.55 to send it off and I received no response from them. After 2 weeks I telephoned. They had received it but were too busy to mend it. After 3 weeks I phoned again and they did not know where it was! When they do find time to put a new battery in it will cost a further £20. Do not buy one, they should stick to what they are good at - sunglasses.

Went Overboard On Budget

I have a fetish for watches. I picked up an Oakley watch recently. It looks great on my wrist but I spent a lot on it. I went overboard on my budget and I regret buying it now.

Oakley Watch Straps

I had only had my Oakley black stealth watch for 4 years when the unobtainium strap split. Oakley could not mend it even though the watch itself worked fine. As a gesture of goodwill they offered me 40% off another purchase. Ok this is quite good but still made my original purchase poor value and assumed I wanted another. They still make watches with unobtainium straps and apparently 'they never break'. So buyer beware.
