Insufficient Advice Provided

Booked a Philippines tour with Gap360 thinking they were the company actually organising the tour as one of the team members I spoke to there said she used to run the tour herself. Only when I arrived did I realise OneLife ran the tour. The key question I had when booking was around how to leave the Philippines as the tour finished in El Nido but all flights directly from there to Manila did not allow you to book baggage. The alternative to this was taking a bus ride to Puerto Princessa and flying from there. In the end I booked this and had an overnight layover alone in Manila. Gap360 advertise themselves as providing hands on care and assistance whenever you need it and not being able to help with this query was concerning as the others on my tour who all had booked through OneLife directly knew that you could add baggage at the airport but as a first time solo traveller this was something I was reliant on my tour provider to inform me of. Would advise you to book with the tour provider directly as Gap360 take a percentage but provide no assistance.

Warning

I booked one of the 3 week trips to Thailand, well before the COVID-19 was a problem.

I was sent a weak email the other day saying I can rebook now if I want, but I dont have to. So basically saying it might be cancelled, but it might not- not very useful. I am not able to rebook, because of work etc, so basically this was my once in a lifetime chance to do a long holiday like this.

I asked if I waited to see if the holiday goes ahead, they said that was fine, but they would not offer a refund at that point I would only be able to rebook.

So basically my decision was made for me, I had to cancel, or lose all of my money. Not by any fault of my own. I had also thought, if the trip went ahead in the Summer, by some miracle, I might book back on.

So I proceeded to cancel my trip and low and behold theres a cancellation fee of £199. That was a bit of a shocker. So what has happened is the company have put me in a situation where I have to cancel (so I don't lose all my money) but they still want a healthy chunk of it.

So basically this is a warning to everyone else that has a holiday booked for the coming summer. Rebook if you can, but if you can't

1. They dont plan on giving you a refund if its cancelled - I have this in writing

2. They will still take a big old chunk of your money if you have to cancel it, because they give you no other option.

It's been an expensive holiday that I dont get to go on basically.

Excellent !

Gap 360 are extremely professional, knowledgable and very approachable. Further to my first email to Gap 360 I was contacted by a Travel Advisor who was extremely helpful. I had an initial meeting and together we went through the various travel options/tours. The Flight Advisor then put together a draft itinerary - so immediately I had some idea of costs involved. Travel Advisor was extremely prompt in replying to my many questions (some may have been daft but he never made me feel they were!). Once we had decided on Tours and Flights, I was handed over to the Operations team who went ahead with booking and organising the tours. Flight 360 also confirmed all flights and reassured me on route/airlines. Both Operations and Flights, (like Travel Advisor) were extremely efficient and prompt with their email responses. Information on Insurance was offered and subsequently taken up once we confirmed our flights. I have organised this on behalf of my daughter, who is currently away, and GAP 360 were very patient with our time-lines and also in keeping all of us involved in logistics. Thank you Gap 360 and I would highly recommend!

Epic Usa Road Trip!

I've just got back from the most amazing 2 weeks road-tripping round the US in a Campervan! The Campervan was super comfy and had everything you could need for life on the road. We saw so many incredible places and one particular highlight was seeing sunrise and sunset in the Grand Canyon. Gap 360 were really friendly and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

My Fantastic Sri Lanka Adventure

I really enjoyed the Sri Lanka Adventures tour. It was well organised, travelling round in the air conditioned bus made the trip very comfortable and the tour guides were fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the whale watching, visiting the national park and the food which was amazing!

Travelling With Gap360 Was The Best Decision I Ever Made!

If you want to travel but have no one to go with. Doing a tour with gap 360 Is great! I wouldnt of had such a amazing experience if it wasn’t for them. You meet so many strangers who become your friends. Everyone on the tour is doing it for the same reason. To travel and have fun! I now have friends all over the country! Who I am meeting up with again in Australia this year. I will be booking a tour with gap 360 again this year. I can’t wait!

Don't Book With Gap360

Worst decision choosing Gap360 as a company to travel Cairns to Sydney. Everyone on my tour was at least 10 years older than me, most about 20 years older. I cried when I got back to my room after meeting my group. It was not a one off either as my tour guide said that she had another young girl who also cried because everyone else was retired on her tour. Gap360 don't actually run the tours they have partners who run them. They will tell you the spaces are nearly booked out when in actual fact there are loads of spaces left. Complete waste of money. DO NOT recommend. Awful company who just want your money.

Q&A

SophStrells

I'm looking to do the Absolute Oz trip with Gap360 and was wondering if anyone else has done it solo and what your experience was? I really want to do it but worried I will get out there and struggle to find accommodation with other people?

Thanks x

aimeeoldham10

Are flights, accommodation and transfers included in the £499 price for the Absolute Oz trip?

DanaWalters

Does the price include flight?  What is the minimal length of time for trips? Is there a trip to England or Europe offered?

Is there a minimal age? What does the price include? How safe is the student?

megan.owendavies

No prices do not include flights but you will be referred to a flight company through the company. please look at the gap360 website for length of trip, what the price includes and trip options as these vary. They have an age guideline of 18-24 but this may vary with trip and it's a guide not a definite age. As someone that has gone through one of the programmes I felt safe at all times, they get you in contact with decent companies but as an individual you need to book a trip you feel comfortable doing , they are there as a contact but the companies aren't with you at all times.

My daughter is travelling to Thailand with Gap year 360 I am worried about her safety. Should I be worried?

TeacherJon

Hi there, I have been living in Thailand for over a year now. I came through Gap 360.

I have lived both in rural Thailand and more urban areas/cities. I have met an incredible amount of teachers both male and female who have never had any issues with their safety. The only people who run into issues are those who consume too much alcohol and do stupid things.

I understand your concerns but Thailand really is a welcoming and generous country. And I'm sure your daughter will be in touch very often!!

mrichards

I am from the States but was wondering if I could go through Gap360? I love their trip to Thailand, and it's the best one I've seen yet.

travisu16

Gap 360 is called First Abroad in the States - check them out! Same logo, different name!

What if you have little luck finding a job? What is the likelihood that the programme gives of finding employment whilst out there?

travisu16

I was out there for a year and the short answer is that if you are ready to put in some work to get out and interview you will get a job. It seems scary at first - that you are going to a new country without a job - but the fact of the matter is that it just works. People are always coming and going so there are always good jobs available. I used the team in Sydney a lot for help and they were great - a real perk of travelling with Gap360. I honestly never met anyone who couldn't find work - the only ones I met who weren't working was because they couldn't be bothered to go to interviews! So my advice is relax, go for it, and enjoy yourself!!! You won't regret it.

Hi there, I'm a parent who has a daughter that wants to do her gap year in Sep 15. I'm proud that she wants to venture out there and experience life, but on the other hand, I'm worried about her safety and the fact that she's going out to Thailand on her own. She doesn't understand my concerns so if there are any parents out there who can reassure me then I'd appreciate it?

AmandaFlowers

When I went to Thailand with Gap360,I did the ThaiAdventure, my parents had the same concerns as yourself, but understood that doing something independently was going to be a great experience. Your daughter will always be with a guide who make sure that everyone is accounted for during the day and at night, every person is given the guides number so you could get this off her for extra security, there is plenty of internet cafes which a cheap so if she can't phone you there will a way to get in touch with you. It was the best experience of my life, i'm sure it will be for your daughter, but yes you will be worried the entire time she is out there.

sophiejane2014

What does the absolute oz trip include? Do I have to book my own flights? Will someone meet me at the airport when I land?

Seethesea

Hi Sophie, I did the package last year and you get lots with it - the best being the job support that enabled me to always be in work and actually saved some money whilst I was there...

The week in Sydney was well worth the money as you meet loads of people and make some great friends... I really overspent then but am happy to be earning good $ now... They do pick you up from the airport and the whole set up is really good and reassuring, bit like being part of a big family :)

Only downside is you do have to pay for your flights out there but it's money really well spent! See you down under ;)
