Worth Paying

Environment is nice, clean and good atmosphere. The receptionists are also friendly. One bad point is that accommodation location is a bit far from UWE uni bus stop so walking to the bus stop to catch the bus in time especially in the morning is a nightmare for me. If you wish to ride Uber to UWE everyday, it would not be a matter for you. Pro point is that it is also near Cabot Circus shopping mall so you can easily get milk tea, coffee, clothes, shoes, food, etc. Another thing is you might feel a bit isolated once you first arrive Marketgate as students don't really have a good chance to make friends. Most students stay inside their room, and you can't do anything about that. Later, you will get used to staying isolated, and you will come to love your own lonely space where you can do anything you want.

One real hidden truth is rooms are not sound proof so you can hear mostly everything from your neighbours such as partying noise. But it's alright because it is only just sometimes, you can get standard living style, and you are living in England so you can report noise pollution if you want. You also need to be careful about your noise as they can also hear you :3

I have observed and visited other famous student accommodation in city centre, and found out they all are the same. One good point is your room roof is high in Marketgate even though some other expensive accommodation has low roofs where you feel a bit tight.

Every morning, I wish there were a UWE bus stop between Marketgate and the real UWE bus stop so I could walk less.

Overall is good, Location is good for shopping

but when you wanna go bars and clubs, they seem abit far from you, and

when you wanna go to uni- walk around 12 mins to the bus stop

I chose Marketgate cuz of their one marketing sentence "Located in the heart of the city"

It's right somehow as it is just facing Cabot Circus shopping mall.

But then you will come to realise the hear of the city is abit in the middle of the city while Marketgate is situated in the eastern part of the city. Only old market area and High way road to UWE is left beyond the east of Marketgate.

Waste Of Money

Oh god where do I start, so I've got a studio flat in marketgate, it sounds great doesn't it, but guess what it's built for disabled people, which is fair enough like I'm not going to fault marketgate for that, but it's not ideal when you are 6 ft 3, despite this it's still the same price even though it's actually such an inconvenience to do the simplest of tasks like wash the dishes or have a shave when the mirrors and sink are only 3 ft off the floor!

It's disgusting here, black marks all round my bath, it always smells on the corridors, it's a weird smell I wouldn't be able to describe it to you, the people are so noisy as well, baking a studio you only have 1 door between you and the drunk people, so you can hear everything!! So annoying when you're trying to sleep and they're all coming back screaming their heads off!!

The receptionist people are not very helpful, and they really hate you using their parking, even though there's always randoms using their car park but when I use it to pack some stuff up, I get a big telling off, cheers!

The wifi here? Oh no don't bother, just get like 20gb of Internet on your phone contract, you'll need it!

Oh and how much is all this pure amazing service for, yup over £700 a month for me with my amazing flat, I wouldn't even let my dog stay here!

Banging Year.

Prime Location, never a dull moment. There's always something going on, someone awake at every hour of the night, you'll never get lonely. I was on the ground floor and had an ace time, but the lifts were very temperamental last year for those who lived higher up. It's so close to loads of clubs, bars and of course Cabot Circus where I spent the majority of my student loan. The only issue for me was catching the Ulink (Wessex) buses in the morning, they tended to be full by the time it passed the bus stop, so I didn't make it in half the time, probably my own fault for not getting up early enough though.

If you want a good, fun year, live in Marketgate, not uni halls!

:)

Getting your deposit back at the end of the year is almost impossible! - Be prepared for a fight! £85 for blue-tac marks, jeees.

It's Alright Many Improvements Have Been Made Sinc

It's alright many improvements have been made since the last academic year, for startes there is now a permanant reception although it is not always open. The main problem is with the real lack of a working toilet, it didn't flush at all when i moved in but thankfully a porter fixed it for me however it still flushes on a regular basis (every 45 seconds) And even on my recent room inspection this was not taken seriously by the person inspecting. It is often cold in the reception area and in the area on each floor by the stairs. The lift (its new lol) also works now which is a miricle although apparantly the manager didn't have any intension of replacing it. However don't expect unite not to take your opinion serioisly, but the girl in reception is ok but it is often hard to talk to them about issues as they are too many people wanting a peice of them

Just Don't Bother. It's Awful And Has No Positive

Just don't bother. It's awful and has no positive thing to it other than being very, very central.

Lifts has during this and last year been out of order half of the time. Living on floors high up are a pain.

Continuous problems with getting maintenance workers to fix things, dirty floors and food in the hallways.

Once again, just DON'T bother. Market gate is not worth it.

Don't Bother! The Only Positive Thing I Can S

DON'T BOTHER!

The only positive thing I can say about living here is the fact that you are a 30 second walk from Cabot Circus.

Apart from that, you will be wasting your money.

The rooms are basic, small, with little light, and the same can be said for the kitchen. The en-suite is a small grey box in the corner of the room, and the shower head is a fixed spout. The shower often fills up for no reason. The carpets smell, and the toilet brush was used when I moved in. You would think they could spend 50p on a new one.

Apart from that, there is good storage space, fairly nice bed.

BUT

Unite take FOREVER to sort out a problem - it took them 3 months to fix my toilet, and weeks to do something about security after the building was vandalised.

All I am saying is that you could rent privately in the centre of Bristol for less than this a week.

It's a waste of money, and it frustrates me when they take money out of my account, it makes me feel like they are cheating me.

abijones

Is one allowed to bring a personal mini fridge or freezer to Marketgate? I am in a 6 people flat and the freezer facility is absolutely inadequate.
