Cottage Bridals, Horbury, Wakefield

I recently visited this shop after a full days wedding dress and bridesmaids dress shopping. I was due to have an hour for brides dress and an hour for bridesmaids dresses. We spent a total of 45 uncomfortable minutes in there.

Firstly we looked at wedding dresses. I wasn't allowed to look freely at the dresses to see which I like. I was asked what my budget was straight away and dresses were picked out for me. Only 2 fitted my needs that were within my budget. If I picked out a dress and tried it on if I completely fell in love with it I would stretch my budget so they are tripping themselves up straight away! I got the complete impression they thought I was wasting their time.

My mum and bridesmaids were not even greeted and had no where to sit while waiting for me to try on.

We then tried bridesmaid dresses. Again they were picked out of the very unorganised racks for us. We did not get to look ourselves. This lady was very rude. My bridesmaids are all different sizes and the dresses she picked out were not going to remotely fit some of my bridesmaids but her answer was pin it. She pinned the front of the dress to one of my bridesmaids bras so she didn't even have it on and then proceeded to comment on her bra and how it was too small and which one she needed to buy. The rest of the appointment she constantly talked about her bra size. Very rude and very inappropriate!

I asked how much the dresses were £225 plus alterations!! I said this was more than I was wanting to pay really and then she completely lost interest in us and couldn't get us out quick enough. She proceeded to make condescending comments about how I couldn't afford the dresses.

If you want good service head over to Ossett. We had brilliant service at those shops and were made to feel completely welcome.

Do not go here! Shabby, pokey shop with horrible staff. I would not buy a dress from them simply for their attitude!

Bad experience all round

They both fantastic really know their stuff. I have been to Cottage Bridals as a bridesmaid for my best friend and also as a bride, and have always been made to feel welcome and happy with the service I received. I would recommend them to everyone. They are honest and know what suits and what works and I trusted their opinion. The Dessy bridesmaid dresses are the most comfortable dresses to wear and she measured me perfectly, I was so pleased with the fit. The changing rooms are private and the ladies are very careful to make you feel comfortable. I never felt rushed into deciding on my bridesmaid dresses and I was given different price options to see which suited my budget. I felt that they were genuinely interested in making me a happy customer.

Went to try on bridesmaid dresses here. Large selection but higher prices than I initially wanted to pay. Once the women realised that I wanted to pay around £150 she suddenly lost all interest! So even though we still had a few dresses to try on she then walked out the room (as a hint to leave), I helped my sister try on another dress myself. We then left to which she didn't even say bye after we said thanks. The other assistant who was sulking around was also very unfriendly from the beginning. We did not even get a hi from her.

It actually turned out that we loved one of the dresses and after going home decided to put together to pay for it. We have found another shop that supplies this dress to buy because this lady turned so unfriendly and cold as soon as she thought we were not buying.

Very strange experience. Agree with the other negative feed back.

Best comment from her was 'I sell dresses to pay my mortgage not because I like weddings'

After reading the last review I was very sceptical as to whether to go to Cottage Bridals or not, however, as a friend had recommended it i went anyway and I am extremely glad I did. The service I received was brilliant, the staff were very helpful and made me feel completely comfortable, I was shocked at the amount of variety there was to chose from with the bridesmaids dresses. I felt I had to write this review as I disagree strongly with the previous one, I came away feeling completely satisfied and would recommend Cottage Bridals to anyone.

I would not recommend going to this bridal boutique at all

It was dirty and very poorly organised dresses - all hung up in a bad way which means you can see any of the dresses properly

The staff were very rude and made the whole experience very stressful

They were rude to me and my family and very condescending

The shop needs a good revamp inside with fixtures and fittings and the staff need to go on a training course on how to treat customers in a polite manner

It was a shame as i did like one of their dresses very much but decided not to buy from them due to their service / shop manner

If you want a friendly service then dont go here!!

Booked an appointment for a group bridesmaid dress selection and fitting. On arrival the lady was very abrupt! Never gave us an option of what dresses we wanted, she picked out several dresses that she selected. There were 2 sides of dresses displayed in the room. When someone suggested they liked a dress on the other side, the lady quickly said no you can't have that it's a different designer! We didn't know this, we weren't even given an option. She referred to one of the bigger sized lady's that she needed to lose weight! No one was even measured. We left very unhappy

when reading the last review i can not believe this is the same shop in horbury where i got my dress !!

i bought a dress in the sale last week and have been able to split my payment into 2 halves , at no point was i made to feel under any pressure to buy or pay for the dress there and then, i felt the service was great , both ladies were really helpful and i was made to feel special even though i was on a tight budget , in other shops i have been made to feel like a second class bride because i am not spending £1000.

i would tell any other bride either on a budget or not to not miss out on this shop , i can only say i was so pleased that i am going back for my bridesmaid dresses and suits as well.

When i was looking for my wedding dress the first place I wanted to visit was Cottage Bridals as I live in Horbury. I had an appointment and was greeted by the lady owner, I tried several of her gowns on and found 'the one' however as this dress was reduced (although still £600) i was informed that NO she would not reserve it for me and if i wanted it i had to pay in full in cash there and then! who can get that amount out of a cashpoint on the same day as i certainly cant!!!! when i mentioned this she instantly changed and became extremley unhelpful towards me. I have since found the dress elsewhere and would strongly advise anyone else DONT BOTHER WITH COTTAGE BRIDALS!!

We bought 3 bridesmaid dresses, 1 was made too short and too small and then altered too big, the bridesmaid was left throughout the wedding day having to keep pulling it up to prevent an embarrassing moment.

The other 2 bridesmaids were left with bruising under their bust' from the strengthening bones.

When asked for a refund for the cost of 1 dress only(the badly made one)we were told no as she had worn it ???

Overpriced and very unhelpful, the shop staff aren,t the best. I had a appointment with them, and wasn,t even asked if I needed any help !. I eventually found my dress in Wakefield, more choice there and better service.
