Incompetent

I don't know who recommended then to our family to deal with the probate of our Mother & Father estate, DO NOT USE CHORUS LAW OR ITC or whatever they call themselves now that the co-op has taken over

The most incompetent company l have had the misfortune to do business with.

The ability to complete simply tasks, ie update records with new contact details yet still use the old records 5 months later, resulting in correspondence &cheques going to old address. l only found out that this had happened after a conversation with my sister some 4 months after the event Sept 2018.It took sometime to actually make contact.

The same thing happened in December 2018, old details used again.

Then in Jan 2019 to received a email stating additional funds were due from Sept 2018 and would be sent through, l was unable to make contact with originator of the email from Choruslaw, three emails and a phone call, but to no avail.

Finally dealt with a member who said the cheque had already gone in Sept 2018

but I am unable to get answers to this email.

Friend died, Widow went to the bank-Barclay's. They told him they had a bereavement service. Signed up and it was Corus Law. They act on your behalf in matters of banking, probate, household account services. They are not lawyers. Over twelve months later and relieved of £6,000 the widow was finally shut of them.

They sent an estate agent to photograph the house. She had no intention of selling up.

They put an advert in the local paper informing anyone with debt interest to contact them. I suspected they went further and I was correct. They put a notice in the London Gazette.

They made an issue of a small piece of land-an old footpath at the side of the house which the council had sold to them and was incorporated in the Land Registry.

Totally unnecessary and incompetent.

Worst Service Ever

Would highly recommend everyone to avoid this company. They are a joke. Now after all this time I am getting emails chasing for payments to other organizations that they should have paid.

Good luck for the Co Op that has now taken over. Back to basic training for everyone.

Incompetent And Slow - Use A Local Solcitor Instead

Was referred to Chorus Law and they stressed they had huge competence in trusts, dealing with gifts from natural income, foreign shares and house sales. In reality they have minimum expertise. Despite having a good case manager who coordinated stuff the so called experts were poor - forms were missed, property transfer took 16months after buyer and price agreed ( buyer's solicitor at point of referring CL legal team to trade body for incompetence), I ended up having to deal with a lot of the foreign shares as nobody seemed to have a clue at CL. Also I had to point out the IHT paid to HMRC must be wrong as nearly 100k more than I would have thought and more than CL had told me it would be - their answer was sorry they had filled forms in wrong! and a further 3 month delay. Various documents like dividend payments lost by CL as well. Nearly 3 years and estate still not sorted. Use a local solicitor who will proactively deal with your estate rather than this company. Why HSBC and Barclays referred all their customers here I do not understand.

Avoid Them!

My aunt passed away 20 months ago and we still have not got any responses from Chorus Law. Whenever we try to contact our probate manager, the only answer is: "we currently await on a property sale." For 20 months?? They treat us with disrespect and contemptuous manners. We definitely do not recommend them to anyone.

Excellent Service; Very Good Communication. Chorus Law Manag

Chorus Law managed the process of probate for my mother’s estate. Throughout the process, staff (especially our case manager JLO) were careful to explain the process and to communicate regularly about progress. Any queries were answered very promptly - usually within the hour - and everything was explained very clearly.

The website was also extremely useful as a record of letters, emails and phone calls, and to check when things were returned. Inland Revenue and Court of Probate aspects were managed efficiently and knowledgeably.

We have been very impressed with the way this process has been managed throughout. All staff have been clear, courteous and helpful and it has been a relief not to have to struggle through the process without professional support.

Thank you, Chorus Law. We certainly recommend your services.

Absolutely Amazing Service!

Chorus have recently handled the very complicated matter of my late mother’s estate. At such a very upsetting time their service has been exemplary!

They have taken the stress and worry away and allowed my family time to grieve while they have very diligently sorted all the complicated stuff out! Our case manager has been very sensitive and caring during all contact and I can not recommend this company enough! If you need professional help from a wonderful group of lovely people these guys are worth every penny!

Probate: Expensive, Bad Service And Not Easy To Get Hold Of

Decided to go with Simplify as came recommended by Bereavement Office at hospital and by Bank. Initial email resulted in a form attached which had to be signed and returned (by email) saying that I had read the terms and conditions and the booklet! Signed it after querying it and 10 days later had the home visit from the 'salesman' and re-signed the documents.

A couple of days later I had to ring their office. The set up is akin to an insurance call centre - they have a little knowledge but are unable to advise. I was told that the case manager would ring me back within 24 hrs!!! Hang on, I am paying you £4,500 so I call the shots, not you. About 4 hrs later I got a call back but missed it so I decided to exercise my right to cancel within 14 days. I looked back at th documentation to find that the 'salesman' had pre-dated the forms by 10 days to the date he sent his first email so I was, in effect, outside the 14 days period!

Got it sorted with the case manager's superior who promised return of the original documents to m by Friday 4th May. Rang today (10th May) to see where they were to be told that, "Yes Sir, the letter has been drafted awaiting checking". Now awaiting a call back from them as a matter of some urgency.

BOTTOM LINE IS - DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN YOURSELF AND SEEK ADVICE ONLY IF REQUIRED

Q&A

joecalleja

Good morning. My brother passed away on 23/7/2o13.He left an inheritance to his son,but unfortunately after several searches he was not found. My brother stated in his will that if that happened the inheritance will go to his stepson. It`s been almost ten years now.I was told that the inheritance has gone to the court.Could you please let me know the procedure as to what to do.

This case was handled by Chorus Law.

I thank you in anticipation for any advice that you may have.

Kind Regards. PS.I have more information if needed.

humphreymcdonald

Can you assist me getting a phone number for this law firm?  I had a number but it has changed. I am calling them from Canada, but the number is out of service. I am trying to reach two people both their e-mail address is out of order, I send an email but it returned undelivered to the recipient.

Bev118

What do I need to do to withdraw my will from Chorus Law firm?

Sandratownley

Why after 12 months am I still waiting to get my late fathers money released. All I've been told it could take another 12months. This is now getting stupid. Really think I need to discuss what's going on with a solicitor.

Ricosvident

Chorus Law are dreadful and seem to prefer to drag their feet. They act as a middle man. I took legal advice as to whether I had a case to take them to court re the sale of my mother's house which, after being put on the market with immediate offers, was still waiting to complete one year later, but was told that probate is along winded process and that some companies will take longer than others. Chorus Law unfortunately seem to fall in the longer than most category!

Sandratownley

When it was agreed for chorus law to manage my late fathers estate, I was told it would be finalized between 9 to 12 months. I've been told your waiting on DWP but they have a back log. So why are you not chasing this matter up? You are getting paid for a service that your not providing, just dragging things on.

annoyeddaughter

Being an executor to my fathers estate, I have just found out my mother has instructed Chorus Law via Barclays Bank to deal with probate. How do I stop this if they DO NOT have my permission?

Anonymousvictim

Is Chorus Law regulated by a independent body? If so, who is it?

Iseeitall

NO!! Chorus Law are totally unregulated and do as they please with absolutely nobody to stop them from ripping you off. They are not solicitors - they simply employ a solicitor to do the legal work but charge you extra for doing so.

bombelagh

Why if probate was granted 10 months ago am I waiting for the case to be finalised and monies due to be paid to me?

Iseeitall

Chorus Law use every trick possible to take the last few quid out of your pocket. Taking so long to close a case after probate has been granted is just one of those tricks. They will blame their solicitors, the Land Registry, YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS and everyone they can think of to get as much interest from your money as they can.

Luther123

Is there a reason why after a house is sold that is part of an estate - that the funds be held in an holding account by Chorus Law before it is disturbed to the heirs of the estate?

Iseeitall

As I've said on here before, Chorus Law use every trick possible to take the last few quid out of your pocket. Taking so long to close a case after probate has been granted is just one of those tricks. They will blame their solicitors, the Land Registry, YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS and everyone they can think of to get as much interest from your money as they can.

maureenenglish73

How come this company takes so long to complete everything when they have all the documents needed?

fedupofpeoplebeingrippedoff

They drag things out for as long as they can because as i said before they earn interest on your money. Imagine the money they must be generating on all the poor people they reel in. Even a complicated probate case does not take the time chorus law take.
