When I first called StepChange and spoke to an agent, I thought they were helpful, especially when I was told that even though I probably wasn't eligible for a DRO, there were other ways to deal with my debt. I was also told to maximize my expenditures. But when I called back for a follow-up, the man I spoke to at first said that there was nothing they could do. Then he changed and said that he would go over my budget again, but then he seemed to chastise me for having higher than normal expenditures. I feel totally confused and wonder if that man was being biased/prejudiced. I am NOT pleased with their service overall!!!

Every phone call I made I was treated with respect, I never felt like they were judging me. ALWAYS helpful answered all my questions. Eight years later we are debt free. We now have 'excellent' credit scores! something I didn't think I'd see again.

I cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful service that is provided totally free. Easy to manage online too. Top marks to all staff who were always very helpful & friendly whilst remaining professional.

I want to thank StepChange Debt Charity as they helped me through my difficult time of debt. I remembered during the beginning of the debt problem, they stood as a shield between the creditors and myself. That saved me a lot of heartache and extra worries. They were able to to talk me through budget management and got the creditors to agree to a reduced month payment.

Each time I called them, they were graceful and non-judgmental. I am happy to say I am now debt free and I want to thank them very much. I thank God for you StepChange.

I found myself in the embarassing position of debt and felt completely out of control and although I managed to keep payments up I knew a time was coming when I wouldn't be able to. I contacted Stepchange and things started to change for me straight away. I was so impressed with how they dealt with my initial call and knew that the first step of deciding to go into an IVA was the best one I had made in a long time. They made sure I understood every step of the procedure, and ensured that they covered everything in detail and were happy to answer any questions or fears that I had. The day that the IVA was approved it was like a heavy weight had been taken from my shoulders, I felt back in control of my finances and budgeting now has become second nature. There is a long road ahead but it is a journey that I can now deal with both emotionally and financially thanks to Stepchange

Myself and my wife found ourselves in lots of debt after I lost my job. We struggled on always thinking things would get better,they didn't. The day we contacted SC was the best day in a long long time.they felt with everything brilliantly and every thing happened as they said it would. Don't get me wrong things are still tough, but knowing everything is paid for is an amazing feeling. We do have a little for the occasional treat which is nice but the best bit is that we now have a light at the end of the tunnel. These people are amazing and what's better is that I work in a bank now and I can recommend these people to the clients there even if it is just the website to get some ideas.

I previously entered voluntary bankruptcy after (very poor) advice from a CAB adviser. Since then having no access to high street credit and three girls to provide for meant birthdays and xmas's were always a struggle, I ended up in a worse position having borrowed from payday lenders.

I look loans to pay loans and was trapped in catch 22. SC were recommended to me and though I was devastated holding my hands up to not being able to manage finances again I felt at ease immediately. SC took all my income and expenditure details over the phone without me feeling I was judged as a failure again and made new pro rata arrangements with all my creditors.

I now pay one payment to SC and they divide it amongst my lenders and I pay my own priority bills (rent, c/tax etc).

For the first time in years I can feed my family well, my bills are in control and though I have no chance of credit (I don't want any) we have in our budget days out, clothing etc - all the things we used to have to borrow for after paying credit cards etc.

I would recommend them to all who feel they have lost control, SC will have you back on track by next payday and no more red letters waiting to be opened after work.

Oh, and as they are a charity no unexpected charges which I have read others have with high street DMP's!

Step change were very helpful, they were very understanding and did not judge us for being in debt, we did not feel we had to explain to them how we'd gotten in to the situation we were in. They were always helpful on the phone and were very efficient. They have really made our lives easier. They are fantastic to deal with and you feel you are not just a number, the lady that organised our IVA was lovely to deal with and I would recommend them to any one struggling with debt and their finances generally.

I approached Step Change in May and my IVA was approved at the start of August. The process doesn't seem quick when you are desperately trying to sort your life out, but in hindsight, it is actually a short period of time.

Step Change were nothing but helpful, kind, and non judgmental. The day of my IVA hearing was so stressful but Step Change were amazing and my IVA was approved.

The only negative is that I work in an open plan office and it is difficult to speak to them during 9am-5pm working hours.

I would recommend that anyone that is in a financial pickle contact Step Change and chat through their options.

we were in so much debt and first approached stepchange for advice. our creditors were phoning us all day every day to the point of depression and then stepchange suggested the iva. although it has been hard especially with ppi payments and our car always needing repairs which means it is hard to keep to a budget we are thankful to the help from stepchange and really looking forward to being debt free. i did find giving our ppi payments to the iva because the way we see it is we were misled back then so why should our creditors benefit?
