Home Insurance Renewal
Tesco home Insurance! part of Tesco Bank. Avoid them. My renewal quote this year had gone from £350 last year to £600 this year, no claims, no explanation. But they had also increased the excess needed to pay. No way to email them as they don't have an email. Do a comparison online and Tesco home insurance is £304 so they lost a customer, don't trust your renewal quote especially if it has doubled. Tesco are ripping you off. Used NFU far better speaking to a person over a coffee rather than a computer.

Not Covered For Pre_booked Plans
YOU'RE NOT COVERED FOR ANYTHING BOOKED BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!!!
I purchased the Premium Tesco Bank Backpacker Travel Insurance provided by AXA.
You're not insured for anything you pre-book, only expenses incurred. So if anything goes wrong you won't get your money back on your travel or accommodation costs. Don't make the same mistake as I did. Go with someone else.
I booked all my flights and accommodation before I went. Vietnam was flooded so I didn't fly there and had to make new plans. Because I booked this BEFORE, according to the policy I was not covered.
They don't make this clear when purchasing, I guess because if people knew this they wouldn't purchase it.

Superb Customer Service
Spoke to an amazing member of staff at about 5 30 pm on Wednesday 27 September about my travel insurance I was trying to do online .there was a glitch in the process online. He did everything from the beginning for me and got my insurance sorted out. He was so polite and efficient, his help was very much appreciated. He is a 5 * communicator
who resolved my questions in a very professional yet friendly manner. Excellent 5* customer service. Many thanks.

No Documentation Despite Requests
Having been a customer of Tesco Travel Insurance since 2021, my annual policy automatically renewed in July 2023. However no documentation was received confirming the policy was in existence. Given an overseas holiday in a few days, I contacted the administrators of the policy (Rock Insurance) to request copies of the insurance certificate required for travel.
Despite several phone calls and emails over two days as well as several hours writing and waiting for telephone connection, no documentation arrived. Customer agents informed me 5 times they had sent the documentation via email but still nothing. During my latest call, despite telling the agent I was due to travel in a couple of days, I was brushed off with the remark that it can take 48 hours for a copy to arrive. 48hours for am email to arrive when I was told 5 times the email had been sent?!
Given the lack of confidence and proximity of travel I have cancelled the policy and obtained a new one from a different company which took 10 minutes from start of application to receiving insurance certificate.

Do Not Book If You Want To Hike
We booked with Tesco the WORLDWIDE insurance policy thinking it would include most countries in South America where we were going, ie Bolivia, Peru, Chile etc. They have a very fine clause stating that they do not cover any walking above 2500m sea level. However most of the sites around Bolivia and Peru are above sea level therefore Tesco is not able to cover none of the Bolivia and Peruvian sites, so technically calling this insurance worldwide is not true and really misleading.
Once we let them know we were outside of the cooling period and they did not want to refund us 100% but only 65%.

Cancelled But Never Got Money Back
I took out a policy to cover my daughter's holiday in Greece. I realized that I had made a mistake and immediately called Tesco to cancel the policy. They confirmed that the policy had been cancelled and that I would receive a refund. The email said:-
"I can confirm the policy has been cancelled, please allow 3-5 working days for the refund to be credited to your account."
I have never received my money back despite frequent requests. I have always been impressed with Tesco and doubt that their team would normally behave like this. More likely to be the "rockinsurance" company that provided the cover. Tesco need to ensure this company is looking after its customers properly.
Of No Use In An Emergency Avoid
The emergency number provided is a UK charged for number, so roaming charges are incurred. Keep a record.
The initial contact was helpful but trying to follow up to confirm safe homeward travel arrangements was like getting blood out of a stone.
One email provided flight details out of the UK rather than back to the UK.
It is nigh on impossible to get hold of anyone beyond the call centre even in an emergency situation.

Excellent Service
I had my phone pickpocketed in Barcelona and this was the first time I have ever had to make an insurance claim. I supplied them with all the documents and uploaded them PM on Tuesday - early Wednesday morning I recieved an email from them saying the claim was approved and would be settled in full. They then sent me a replacement phone which arrived on the friday! Was amazed at how easy and fast my claim was - would definitely reccommend Tesco insurance to anyone.

Taken Payment Twice
Don’t bother with Tesco insurance, go somewhere reputable . I shop at Tesco, get my fuel at Tesco, am a member of the Clubcard scheme so thought Tesco was a trustworthy and safe company to deal with. How wrong could I be! They took the payment for my annual travel policy out of my bank account twice (two days apart). They said to me over the phone that they were having issues with the site and I would get a refund. Now countless phone calls and emails later, repeatedly giving them our names and policy number etc and I still have not had a refund. I’m having to prove that the payment has come out twice via a screen shot of my bank account. Making out it’s my fault they took payment twice and that they still can’t identify even though I have provided the evidence. It seems like they’re just making excuses to avoid reimbursing me. This is the first time I’ve used tesco for anything other than food and fuel , I won’t be trusting them with anything else in the future. Their customer service is appalling. TESCO, KNOW YOUR LIMITS!
