Exceptional Service

I’ve just dropped my hire car off at South Street. I collected last Friday, got picked up at Partick Station and dropped off at South Street. I was 2 hours early, no problem, I pre paid my petrol £1.20 ltr and off I went. Returned today to return my car. Again no problem, I asked to be returned to Partick, I was told it would be 10 mins, I got a coffee a biscuit and used the toilets that were spotless. The best bit was left to last. My return driver (I never got his name????????) was from Romania, the entire journey we spent talking about positives, his pride in working and paying his bills, his work & his life in Scotland. Unfortunately it was a short journey, I could listen to him all day. From start to finish my experience was exceptional, well done Arnold Clark South Street, I will be back.

Outstanding Customer Service

We hired our car from AC at Edinburgh airport. On our final day of our holiday we travelled back from Inverness, we were hit by massive delays due to not one but 2 closures of the A9. This meant we knew we were going to miss the last official shuttle bus service Ac offer to the airport, but also we were unsure we would arrive before their office closed and were in danger of being late for our flight. I phoned their office and was given good advice what to do if we were to arrive after the office was shut. We managed to get back a few minutes before they shut. The staff there brilliantly concentrated on our need to get our flight and drove us straight to the airport terminal. Thank you

Your Best Friends Till You Return!

Choose arnold clark as other van hire companies i have used in my local area always have horrible bashed in vans with dirty loading areas and terrible customer service. Now as the title reads once you book your van and take it away everyone is best friends and couldn't be more helpful. Warning: do not be fooled by the big white smiles. Whilst having my points checked some paper work was quickly thrown my way with no explanation "sign here" "sign there" "thanks" all whilst on the phone to dvla. Purposeful distraction to stop you noticing your signing for £750 excess i hope not. But maybe. As quickly as the papers were passed my way. They were retrieved for him to collect the keys and let me on my way. (which was fine i had a lot to be getting on with) now once you are on your way out the door " let's do a quick check over the van" fine by me, needed a clean van for an expensive fabric sofa removal. As i undertook a quick look over the vans bodywork ( which was mint, it had 1300 miles on clock) the sales woman also undertook look lasting no longer than 10seconds. "right that's you! See you later on" okay great! Let's get this on the road. Now my journey between houses in my area was no more than 10 miles all in. There was 15 mins driving in total compared to the 15 hours it took the move the big old couch from a-b. Upon returning the van i was very pleased with the day's work and the service so far at arnold clark. Now heres the the reason a review and warning has had to be made. All smiles returning the van, a different sales woman said " we need to do a check over the van first" she already didn't look like she was having a great day. She had an attitude and a grumpy face. The opposite of our sales woman! But i thought no bother go ahead! And it's monday after all who can blame her! But then this sales woman heads straight to the front window and starts rubbing over what turned out to be a small chip under the driver side dashboard. (not visible from drivers seat) she then proceeds to tell me "this wasn't there before how did this happen" now she hadn't even been dealing with my service or had she even seen the van i left in. So straight away you think, ah great there going to try the olde lets get all we can out these sorry sods. Great. My original sales woman comes out with the same attitude. Also telling me this wasn't there before she would have seen. ( in the 10 seconds she looked round the bodywork) i immediately responded saying i think i would have heard or noticed a stone chip off the window in my 7 min journeys (no radio was on) after a lot of going back and fourth and also a mechanic coming out to back up there story!! I felt cornered and annoyed that my good deed for the day (helping a friend) and great customer service was slowly crashing and burning in front of me for a quick quid stone chip repair. It's then after bein lead in to discuss this matter i had that previous paper work which was seen for 3 seconds thrown at my face and signature pointed at for 3 minutes whilst i argued my case. By this time the manager (with has hand in his pockets the whole time this situation played out!)!Strolled on in to fix the matter. Now by this point my friend who doesn't cope well with confrontation started getting very agitated and worried and tried to explain the situation but unfortunately coming across a little loud as he was nervous and felt backed into a corner. Now i calmly provided him with an explanation and argued my case that could this stone chip not have been missed? And now i'm paying the cost for an unfortunate miss by the last person to take out the van. Unfortunately he was very argumentative (i know this shocked me too. He works in "customer service" for crying out loud) he told my friend to leave and not talk to him. And told me "you signed here look look look" after arguing my case too which he fine well knew this was in fact right and viable, then said in a terrible manner "look you will never hire from here again! Fine! We will cover the cost!" making me feel unbelievably bad that i had not owned up to something i hadn't done. Absolutely disgusting service arnold clark! Never again! Official complaint has been written and sent out. Had i not argued my honest case i would have been ripped off for another 100 or so pounds!

Beware Excess Mileage

I have used this company many times before, and have always been happy with the service and vehicles provided. For cars they are excellent, and for van rental of more than one day they are excellent. HOWEVER, BEWARE OF EXCESS MILEAGE CHARGES ON ONE DAY VAN HIRE!

On a single day van hire there is a mileage limit of 250 miles, and this is not obvious on the website, but buried deep in the T&Cs. So, on a single day hire I was stung for £25 excess mileage which not only doubled the hire charge unexpectedly, but took the charge to way over the mainstream companies cost, who will drop off at your house for no extra charge. This makes it completely uneconomical to use Arnold Clark for long distance single day van hire.

I will boy use again, mainly because if this basic information is not communicated at the time of hire then I cannot be sure there are not more important details concealed in the usual legal blurb.

Very Efficient Service - Arnold Clark Elgin - Van Hire

Hired a large van from the Elgin branch of Arnold Clark.

Everything was already arranged when we arrived, just a few paperwork checks and signatures, a check of the condition of the van (14 plate, 400 miles so it was immaculate) and we were on our way.

Great service, great vehicle and we'll be using them again.

Highly recommended.

Aberdeen Airport Arnold Clark Car Rental Branch - Awful!

Would advise against using Arnold Clark as they do not have a desk at the airport. Either they will meet you off your flight or you can ring them from a red telephone near baggage reclaim to arrange a lift. They will then drive you 15 to 25 mins (depending on the time of day) into Aberdeen City itself to their centre near Mount Hoolie. I booked with them this past weekend (Aug 2014) and they were unable to collect me for "40mins or possibly a little over an hour" which I found completely unacceptable. In the end it was faster to make my own way into town which was incredibly inconvenient.

The 3rd party group I had booked through had incorrectly specified Arnold Clark's practises - for example they do not hire to people with >6 points on their licence and require a household bill as proof of address. Other companies I have hired from have not asked to see both parts of my licence but Arnold Clark insisted and were totally inflexible - I witnessed the same attitude to another customer when I returned the vehicle on a Sunday...because it was a Sunday they could not ring the DVLA to verify his licence and would not hire to him!

In the end the vehicle I hired (peugot 207) seemed a bit burnt out in low gears despite being a 2014 model and the petrol guage was apparently sticky - which they only admitted after insisting for several minutes that I had probably lied about refilling it!!

Outrageous lack of respect to customers, marked unhelpfullness and total lack of flexibility. I have had much much better service from Avis and Hertz and will be using them in the future!

9.8 Mpg In A Renault Van

Hired a Renault Traffic and did 40 miles. Went to top up as per rental agreement, cost £26. When I did the maths it came out at 9.8 MPG. When I challenged the Manager he basically hid behind, " we can only go by the gauge in the van".

If you are thinking of hiring a van from these people, please be aware of this, as they were not prepared to recompense me. The book MPG for this van is around 30MPG.

All he said was " I will give you a credit when you come in again". Based on this customer experience you can be sure I will not be going there again.

Great Service, Efficient And Organised

We've just returned from Glasgow where we hired a car from AC. On arrival at the airport we telephoned AC and were given clear instructions on where to find the minibus to take us to collect our car. The minibus was waiting and our luggage was loaded by the helpful, friendly driver. A quick short journey to the office where we were taken through the paperwork and told we'd been upgraded - result! We were then shown to our 'brand new!' car and after a tour we were handed the keys. (Our only niggle was the worry over getting any slight knock or ding and being charged through the roof for it). We'll certainly be using AC again.

Christmas Spirit

I travel to Aberdeen a lot, for work and family reasons, and normally if I need a car I book from one of the airport-based companies. They are only slightly more expensive, and the convenience outweighs the extra cost. Usually.

However, back in October I went on-line to book a car over Christmas. The cheapest at the airport was £280 for 3 1/2 days. That's right, £280 for 3 1/2 days. I looked around for alternates, and Arnold Clark charged me £88 for 4 days, and for the holiday period was actually offering 7 days for the same price.

They were waiting at the airport for me when I arrived, and gave me the option of a lift back to the airport or an airport drop-off at the end of the hire period. The service was friendly and efficient.
