The Isuzu Trooper, With Just A Little More Polish

The Isuzu Trooper, with just a little more polish could have been one of the best SUV's of all time..So close..We (in the States) never had the opportunity to purchase the later diesel's.."They" claimed that we wouldn't buy them...(Must have been the Oil Companies Claim). Just take a look on review sites at the owners ratings of the Trooper's here in the States, that's true to heart Ratings, not just a test that last's a small portion of a day. I have had other Isuzu's and liked them all. I now have one of the last 2002's, sorry to see them go..

I Have A 1990 Swb 2.8tdi Trooper - She Is Absolute

I have a 1990 SWB 2.8Tdi Trooper - she is absolutely amazing. Despite having spent so much money on her, and now she is out of action with a bust front diff, I have very few bad words to say. She's been reliable, totally enjoyable, and is soooo good off road I am stunned. And the engine... is incredible. What more can I say? Rusty and expensive but I love it to bits. If you love it its worth the money.

Yes get rid of those Autolockers as soon as you can!!!! Went off roading yesterday and a friend had his hubs break on him... I recommend AVM manual hubs, or given that you're in the US, Superwinch do some as well as Warn (I think)... Do a web search for Japanese 4x4 parts ,I am sure you will find some mail order place that can help you - don't buy from Isuzu!!!

Have fun and as soon as it starts to be a money pit, sell it! I know from experience and Mikey too!!!!

I have just bought a 1990 Isuzu Trooper with the 2.8 liter engine. Other than it taking almost 12feet for the hubs to lock in, its great. Of course, I spent about 30 minutes rocking my way out of a muddy ditch low in a valley today. The hubs just wouldn't lock in. I guess I'll be buying some manual hubs. Does anybody know where I can find a good deal on parts for it?

Hiya... those prices sound okay, especailly if you're doing the work yourself!

I gotta get me a new caliper - was the one you got new or recon? If new, I'd be interested to know where you got it from! Maybe Milner aren't the cheapest... but heres their details

My email is [email protected] if ya want to talk more, cos we seem to be having a conversation on a public review board!!

Not sure about rear door other than a scrappy... i have a big chunk angle grinded out of mine to try and stop the rust... it adds character!! :0|

Mikey B.

Do you have a contact number for them????

Just got a new caliper and discs.

The pads fell out the left hand caliper and the caliper wore away the disc and its self.

Caliper was £120 Discs £20 each.

Took the gearbox off today... was very easy much easier than working on my mini!!

I need a new rear door any ideas???

Cheers,

Mike

Isuzu Trooper Check Engine Light

Isuzu Trooper Check engine light

mlsw1.

Engine light, on my original trooper was a problem however found it to be a vacuum leak. Just reconnected line and that was that.

Smoke.

I have the same issue with the check engine light on my '94 with 108,000 mi. The light started coming on at around 70,000-80,000 miles. No one seems to know the reason it goes on except that it is associated with the EGR sensor. I have at least a dozen mechanics try to figure it out including the Isuzu dealership. The light goes off at or below 1500 rpms but comes back on above that. I have learned to ignore it which I heard could be costly but I haven't had other problems with my Trooper.

I just came back from a 3000mi vacation from southern California through Oregon and back. The altitudes ranged from below sea level to just above 7000 ft. Temperatures ranged from 18F to 85F. Conditioned ranged from nice sun shiny days to blizzard conditions. The check engine light come on sporatically. Other than a small oil drip requiring a quart of oil every 1000mi, my Trooper ran flawlessly.

I Love My Isuzu Trooper. It Is The 2001s Model Wit

I love my Isuzu Trooper. It is the 2001S model with TOD auto transmission. It is used by the wife for her daily trip to work. Our most enjoyment is when we do 4 wheeling in the mountains of SW Colorado. We shock the Jeep lovers when we idle over the toughest trails and obstacles where the set up Jeeps get into trouble. One example is the extremely dangerous class 5 Black bear trail from Ouray over to Telluried Colorado. When we finished the trail this last July 5th 2002, we were told by the 4x4 tour operators that they had never seen another Trooper do the Black Bear.

We really love our Trooper, I did add 31 inch BFG TA KO all terrain tires. The stock tires might get you in trouble. Get one and enjoy it. Our Trooper was bought as A program vehicle with only 10K miles, and we saved $10,000.00, what a deal.

Watch out for the "program" cars. That is what I bought, a 2000 Trooper "program" and come to find out it was a rental. I have had an engine replaced, shocks, all brakes (pads and rotors) and all this was at 25k. Now I need tires at 44K. I am in a lawsuit against the dealer for deceptive business practices and consumer fraud. My advice is to run a car-fax report and go from there. Good luck with your trooper
