My 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo Has Been Fantastic. I'

My 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo has been fantastic. I've changed the differential fluids and transmission fluids at 80,000 and at 140,000 and have had very little problems. The tranny did slip just before the change at 140K, but has worked fine since the change. No problems with the differentials.

Overall I Love To Sit In This Car, But I Don't Kno

Overall I love to sit in this car, but I don't know when the next thing is going to go wrong with it.I love it, I guess I'm gonna have to come the realization that it's not as reliable as I thought it would be.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Is Excellent To Own, Great

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is excellent to own, great to drive. Put's a smile on my face every time I drive it. A diesel is a poor substitute for a V8. Had an LPG conversion when I had it. Costs less to run than my Mum's 2.0 Mondeo.

If you want style, looks & a super 4x4, it has to be a Grand Cherokee 4.7...

My Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee Has Good Comfort And O

My Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee has good comfort and over all style. All wheel drive is nice and dependable. My Jeep has 101,000 miles in 9 years. So, this Jeep is not out of control and abused. I drive it around town and highway. I'm self employed and work at home. I've taken it on 2 or 3 1200 mile trips. That's about it.

Bought Mine As A High Mileage Car, 119k. Was Told

Bought mine as a high mileage car, 119k. Was told by dealer nothing ever goes wrong.

At 127k new radiator needed, fair enough, but over £200.

At 129k engine threw a piston, cracking cylinder bore. Replacement engine. engine set of bearing shells for crank: £330. fan belt:£50

136K, water pump failure, another £60

140k, oil cooler hose: £105

142k, rear diff starting to lock, auto box beginning to rattle on kickdown.

various electronic faults with memory seats, mirrors, & abs.

air con hasn't worked since day one.

generally been one problem after another and not the car I was sold. worse reliability than cars I have bought for beer money.

I've Owned My 1999 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 For Three

I've owned my 1999 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 for three years now having bought it at three years old and 32000 miles. It's now done 54,000 and has never let me down. I suspected it had been in an accident which meant that the front suspension had to have some work done on it under warranty, but since then the only things which have gone wrong are the heated seats and an oil pressure sensor. Oh and the tracking is difficult to get right, but Ok when done by someone who knows what he's doing. Remember this is a very complex vehicle and I beleive it's wonderful value for money second hand. The paintwork is superb still despite being over 6 yrs old (and better than my brand new Merc!) and the power, comfort and ride for such a versatile vehicle is superb. Buy one but don't expect to have Japanese reliability. An American dream.

I Drive This Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee 4x4 Vehile D

I drive this Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee 4x4 vehile daily and we use it to go on holiday. We drove down to Southern France in July 04 it was great, loads of space and we went down at 85mph and still got about 20mpg and from 4000cc. My only real gripe is the cost of main dealer servicing, so I do not bother, I use my local guy but follow the Jeep service book. I think this is a very good 4x4 and second hand they are being given away, ok its not an X5 but then again I can have 2 Jeeps for the cost of one X5 of a similar year.

I Bought My Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 W

I bought my Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee limited 4x4 with 53000 miles on it. The winshield fluid hoses need replacing as well as the emergency brake needing tightening. I noticed that the front rotors have some minscule grooves in them and agree that they did not think through the quality of the rotors for a machine this heavy. However many folks have replaced them with special rotors (and or calipers) to permanently eradicate the problem. Some unfortunate souls keep replacing them with the same parts and it keeps happening and they dont know why. (???)

I have done nothing but reseach this vehicle. I have read review after review and these are my thoughts:

This is a jeep - it isnt a car and you cant drive it like a car. It will not last in the urban jungle -buy a Nissan pathfinder or Toyota 4 runner if you want the 'full package' best of both worlds. If you want to drive the jeep like a car you will do nothing but wear out the dual transmissions and unless you accept this is an offroad vehicle and should be meticulously maintained and driven properly - of course your going to have it break down all the time. I can tell you that it appears to me that either these whinning people didnt do the homework on the vehicle, they bought a 'lemon' or they wrecked it from neglect. I drive the vehicle like its a jeep not a car and have never once had any problem whatsoever with it. Folks - respect your vehicle - research it before you buy it and maintain it afterwords. Dont just climb in it and drive around then whine ignorantly when you run it into the ground.

The real problem here is that Chrysler doesn't tell folks that this is a specialty vehicle and it needs to be driven and maintained differently than 'wannabee suvs' that are built for the highway - thus dont break down. Chrsyler should also consider the fact that it needs more quality parts and stronger breaking systems for this vehicle and might consider a recall for the calipers and rotors.

Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee: I Had To Renew The Rear

Jeep 1999 Grand Cherokee:

I had to renew the rear axel, as the diff became seized; air-conditioning did not work, and now I have the problem with the auto box, keeps slipping into neutral when it feels like it. After having a Land Rover Discovery with no problems, this Jeep has been an eye opener; I would not buy another one again. !!!!

I Bought This Ltd 2.5 Td Just Nine Months Ago. I H

I bought this Ltd 2.5 TD just nine months ago. I had a BMW 2.5 series 3 which I exchanged. The Cherokee had done 59,000 miles warranted with full service history. After receiving the vehicle I went for a long ri=un and the top oil seals blew and after 800 miles had to be returned and fixed. Then the headlight level motor stopped working on one of the lights next thing the passenger front window mechanism broke, then after that a fuel line split, not a big job but just something else. I use this vehicle everyday and it is never used or driven hard and the alternator seems to undercharge. I am about to change this Jeep tomorrow and I am going back to German build quality. What a shame that a great looking vehicle is such an unreliable 4X4. I have had the Cherokee Ltd for just nine months and have travelled 9,800 miles!! IT HAS TO GO!!!
