I Rebuilt My 1986 Lr90 4 Years Ago. I Dropped A 1

I rebuilt my 1986 LR90 4 years ago. I dropped a 1997 300Tdi engine into it last year which has been a huge improvement. Returns anywhere between 26 and 29 mpg depending on how I drive it. My mileage is mainly urban type.Took it to Val D'Isere a couple of years ago. Was surprisingly comfortable (but slow with the old naturally aspirated engine)

This Is A Vehicle That Will Outlast Any Vehicle On

This is a vehicle that will outlast any vehicle on the road, go anywhere and, I love it, it is a complete joy to drive. With the high seat position, a drive in the country is a totally different experience than driving your normal family saloon around, you can see far more. The 2.5 TDi engine is not one of the best that Landrover fitted to it's vehicles, this was one of the reasons that I replaced mine with a 200 TDi engine from a Discovery, a little more mpg, quieter and a bit more responsive. You will either love or hate Landrover's, but I can guarantee that once you have driven one, you will be bitten by the landy bug. I have now owned two, and a point to note, in the second hand market they tend to keep there value. The Landrover family is an extremely helpful and friendly one, check out one of there yearly rallies. Happy motoring.

The 200 Tdi is a a 2.5. I also have a 1990 90 which has a 200 Tdi from a Discovery retrofitted, it originally came with a 2.5 TD which was not a very good engine. Was this perhaps the engine you meant?

(The Defender and Disco Tdi engines are essentially the same engine and have 200 points of difference with the aforementioned 2.5 Turbo Diesel with which it shares the engine block).

Bought From New In 1996. Yearned For A Land Rove

Bought from new in 1996.

Yearned for a Land Rover since a very young, but could not afford one until... Expensive to buy and service but depreciation very low therefore, worthwhile purchase.

Great fun to drive in a high up position.

Been a great workhorse, used for a family of six, taking boys to University, holidays abroad, visiting agricultural and Land Rover shows, driving into the mountains, takes a big family supermarket shopping - Do you know how many loaves of bread will fit in the back?

Very sure footed on snow and in deep mud. Low gear box and diff lock useage proves why its the best 4x4 by far.

Economy has never faltered whether loaded up including roof box bikes on the back returns 28 - 30 mpg. Cruises easily at 70mph (been up to 95mph on flat with no problem apart from the time it takes to get to that speed) (bought not for performance though)

Insurance premium unbelievably low (although I've got age on my side), now pay £130 p.a fully comp with NCD protection.

Many people have respect for the model and is always a talking point.

Main problem has been electrical.

Would I recommend one to a friend - yes it's such a fun vehicle too.

Unless able to self service efficiently, worthwhile finding an independent Land Rover repair garage which is what I use now and feel with hindsight should have done several years before.

I Originally Purchased The Land Rover Defender 90

I originally purchased the Land Rover Defender 90 for day to day use (on road), dog carrier, and for camping holidays.

It always feels like a large vehicle, however, is in fact smaller than the Volvo 440 hatch it replaced. It's noisy, could do with aircon, although the ventilation through front vents, & side sliding windows is excellent. Returns about 29MPG on a 2.5TDi. Surprisingly very comfortable on motorways as a cruiser. speed on motorway comfortable at about 70 mph, any faster became incredibly noisy through tyre noise, wind resistance etc..

Dominates other vehicles, and they tend to give way to you - similarly you're unlikely to experience road rage in this.

I Love My Land Rover Defender 90 Station Wagon Cou

I love my Land Rover Defender 90 Station Wagon County. It is permanent 4 wheel drive so I don't need to worry about changing all the settings. I wouldn't suggest it as a city car because of the poor turning circle. if you love the feeling of power and saftey, but also want the looks of a classic 4x4 get this car!
