Bought this Nissan xterra new in 2006 based upon excellent reviews on other sites. Reliable transportation in western Pennsylvania climate and terain was the goal. What a mistake! Replaced the stock tires in less than 17,000 miles. The paint on the running boards flaked off in 6 months and rust is bleeding through the paint on the hood. Replaced the front brake pads and rotors twice in 51,000 miles. Door/gate latch malfunctioned causing intermitent alarms when locked. In august 2009 the tranny failed and then the radiator blew. (at 51,000miles). Nissan failed to honor the drive train warranty. The excuses were unbelievable. In fact they failed to return phone calls to the Consumer Affairs group for weeks while I rented a car. Estimated cost to repair including rental exceeded $7000. Did I mention that I still owe $5,200 of the original purchase price? No more Nissans for me!
