Range Rover P38 4.0 Se

Bought my Range Rover P38 4.0 SE about 3 years ago and think it is a fantastic car. It has had only one problem which needed a complete gearbox rebuild at £1600 but would not swap it! Air suspension is fantastic and the go anywhere drive is amazing. It has now been on 3 journeys to Portugal and back without a hiccup and I am looking forward to another trip in it this summer!

I only paid £2000 for this 1999 RR and try an buy a new car with this much kit on it and with the feeling you get whilst driving the RR. I would recommend the RR P38 to everyone but the complaints about high running costs are real so keep something in the bank just in case. The much fabled air suspension problem has never occurred and the ride height that you drive at whilst wafting along makes you feel that much better about life.

If MPG is a concern then buy a Ford Ka!! I get about 26mpg on the long drive to Portugal and am happy with that as it carries my family of 4 and I with consummate ease and comfort which you would pay a lot more for if you were paying to be crammed into the tightest of airplane seats!!!

So overall and without rose tinted glasses, I would buy another one tomorrow with thinking about it!

1999 Range Rover 4.6 Hse Review!

We purchased this range rover p38 4.6 in November 2011 and it has been great for the business we run. We bought it with only 98.000 miles on the clock. This is a great vehicle love the V8 burble when you rev it. It`s a really comfortable which is helped by the air suspension, quite a suprise when I found out it had elctric headrests! The only problem we`ve had with it is it wouldn`t stop overheating but that is now being sorted! It will be great for pulling the caravan with! It would of been handy to know that they do overheat, but I suppose thats the joy of owning an older car:)

i bought the range rover 4.6 hse two years ago ..im a fun of landrover cars, its a good car and confortable seats...the serious problem with the air suspension system it easy gets faulty...plus fuel consuption is ernomous,i find my self dificult to move with it in town..rather instead i use a freelander on weekdays....i think the 1997-2001 series are realy not fuel efficient.buyer beter be aware of the fuel consuption,or try buying the 2.5litre diesel at list.

Its A Good Car Only When It Works. Too Many Proble

Its a good car only when it works. Too many problems with EAS and other electronics & mechanical. Car plastics are below expectations, as breaking like glass. A car that is not made for the Middle East or for desert driving. To give an example a car worth approximately 260,000 Qatar Ryals in 2000 after seven years had a market value of 30,000 Qatar Ryals and that says a lot. Simply disappointed by the luxirious the best 4x4 by far...

Found This Beauty In The Local Paper, 120,000 Mile

Found this beauty in the local paper, 120,000 miles on the clock, full service history every thing works and completely standard, Range rover must have forgotten to put a gremlin in this one, two owners, the guy i bought it off was forced to sell it by his long haired Brigader for her perfect wedding, i could see his gutted face and broken spirit when i went to view it, since buying it ive made a few changes, sport alloys, tinted windows, dvd mp3 ipod player, side vents, chin spoiler, boot spoiler, side steps, chrome tail pipes, LPG conversion and modified grill.it looks 20 grand but in all cost me only 3 thousand, and my neighbours with there Q7s, Merc MLs, VWs, Porshe Cayenne, X5s all really want mine as they all ask when i sell it to let them know, i think its the V8 that hurts there diesel Chelsea Tractors

I Have A 2000 Plate 4.6v8 Vogue. Two Owners And 11

I have a 2000 plate 4.6V8 Vogue. Two owners and 110,00 miles. It cost me almost nothing, although I've done a few repairs:-

1/ Door locking control module £170

2/ Front discs £50

3/ Drag link £70

4/ Front hubs £215 each

5/ Gas shocks inc: steering damper

6/ Serpentine belt

Both diffs were leaking oil from the filler plugs but this was easily fixed by removing and applying a sealant. I changed the oil at the same time.

Coolant was leaking from the water-heated inlet manifold. A new £2 washer fixed that.

The radio has a habit of occasionally cutting off for a few seconds and the heater

lcd display does not always work properly. Not serous enough to tackle.

Lastly, the driver's door window gear jumps a cog or two when fully closing but

this is a recognised problem and can be fixed for about £50.

This Range Rover is the first I have ever owned or driven and after 10,000 miles I still have concerns over its road manners. By this, I mean its tendency to find every rut and bump and also exhibit shimmy from the front wheels, given only the smallest excuse. This problem/characteristic is why the shocks have been changed along with the steering damper. However, neither has effected a cure. I've had the steering checked for worn joints and bushes plus tracking - all ok. All wheels have been balanced and tyres are spot on. The air suspension works as it should and so that does not seem the culprit.

A local Range Rover dealer has driven it and reports that there is nothing untoward, but I'm still unhappy. RR forum sites don't seem much help as I've done all the work that normally causes this problem.

However, enough griping. Performance is spectacular, considering the kerb weight and 15 - 18 mpg average seems about what to expect . It has never failed to start in any conditions and feels like it would go just about anywhere with the least effort. If you are able to tackle general maintenance jobs then this vehicle is worth serious consideration.

try changing the front and back wheels around, did this on mine and it cured the same problem, the front tyres get steps in them witch causes these problems.so every 5 or 6000 miles i swop them over...

What A Fabulous Vehicle The Range Rover 4.6 Hse Is

What a fabulous vehicle the range rover 4.6 hse is. It is a superb towcar, easy to drive, very comfortable for passengers and driver and because of the lpg conversion it is comparable to an medium size family car in fuel consumption. The ease of driving both in and out of town is quite remarkable considering the size (it is after all a very large vehicle). Parking is stress free for street parking because of the clear view from the drivers seat and the adjustable ride height makes multi story car parks available, something that was off-limits with a previous Land Rover Discovery. The car still has all functions working, not bad after 11 years.

The Range Rover 4.6 Hseu Is Without Doubt The Best

The Range Rover 4.6 HSEU is without doubt the best series 2 Range Rover I have ever owned.(I've owned 3 previously.). The ride and comfort is unbeatable. The V8 engine just "burbles" and carries you from A to B in complete luxury. Its a 1999 on a T plate and has an LPG conversion which with the price of petrol these days make it comparable with your average family saloon in terms of running costs. When you think that I am driving a 10 year old car together with the LPG I think the "Green Brigade"will have lost their argument about 4 x 4s.All in all a fabulous car offering everything you could ever want in luxury motoring at an affordable 2nd hand price. The heated seat has had to be mended twice but hey if that's all that,s wrong who can complain . Unashamed, unbeatable luxury from the makers of the best 4 x 4 by far.

The garage that is repairing the heated seat lent me an Izuzu Trooper 4 x 4.

I was counting the minutes till I collected my beloved Rangie.

What a culture shock.

Firstly This Is A Wonderful Vehicle To Own And Dri

Firstly this is a wonderful vehicle to own and drive. If it remains reliable then you have to recommend it. However if purchasing one, look carefully at the service history. Also look carefully for any sign of the dreaded lockout problems and water problems.

So, great looking motor which today can be bought for fairly low money ( £3000 upwards will get you a terrific example, so, excellent value). Electric everything (great while it all works, expensive when it doesn't!). RF module needs to be the latest one, as the old one responds to just about any signal from camera's, wifi setups etc etc and will drain your battery or even mess with the vehicle ECU's to lock you out and immobilise the vehicle, (happened to me several times before we realised what was happening and bought a new module. The module is expensive ( £170) and make sure the garage you take the vehicle too, know what they are talking about as we were told the main ECU was faulty and quoted £1000 for a new one including fitting, (appears they were unaware of the RF module problem so had guessed on the most expensive and profitable option!).

With the price of petrol it is and rising I would recommend that you get one that has been converted to run on LPG which is around half the price of petrol, (thus coming close to theoretically doubling your mpg). Speaking of mpg, if you run on petrol and only do short runs then do not expect to get more than about 12mpg. On a run, averaging moderate speed you will get nearer to 20mpg.

I've Had My Range Rover For Five Years, And Still

I've had my Range Rover for five years, and still love it - it's my sixth Rangie, and the most "economical" I've had - you could never get within sight of 20mpg on a carburettored Classic.

It's always big enough to get big stuff inside, and makes towing really too easy - I'm inclined to forget a caravan on the back because I just don't notice it.

Now showing its age a bit, but recent test drives of the latest Discos don't convince me to invest another £30k for something hardly any better than an eleven year-old car. Glad I don't have to pay post 2001 VED rates though.
