Do Not Buy A Nissan Micra K12

I would not recommend this car to anybody, I've had problems ever since and regret ever buying it. It started with the sensors and turned out to be a streched chain, cost £800 to repair on top of all the over cost on the sensors.

Six months after this the cluch went, then the gearbox, also I have had the fan belt changed 4 times because it kept on making a noise.

The problem with the car is it isnt a Nissan but a Renualt.

Do not buy this car, Nissan are full aware of the problems and will not assist in helping the driver but are more motivated with selling you the parts needed with there labour costs.

04 Micra 1.2 Timing Chain 33,000 - Clutch 3,000

Owned car from new, after 3,000 miles and still in warranty, the clutch burnt out Nissan said it was due to the driver and therefore I had to pay for new clutch. I contacted Nissan H.O. they would not help and also said it was due to driver error. 30,000 miles/6 years later clutch fine - now it's the timing chain.

Warning light came on - took to Nissan garage (paid £90 for diagnostic check)they told me it's the timing chain - they said it's stretched, there should only be 10mm movement this has 18mm. I asked what the chain tolerance is; neither Nissan H.O. nor the local Nissan garage could answer. Nissan said it will cost £1,811.59 to replace. I contacted Nissan H.O. and suggested that this problem must be due to a design fault as the car has only done 33,000 miles. The chain should last for the life of the engine, this should be 100,000 miles plus. I was told ‘it is out of warranty therefore we will not help’. I asked how common this problem is; they said we don’t know - we don’t keep records. Nissan suggested the car has not been serviced regularly – this is not the case.

Poured All Mu Savings Into A Nissan Micra K12 S 20

Poured all mu savings into a nissan micra k12 s 2003 model. I always saw these cars around where I was, so assumed it was a goos reliable car. WAS I WRONG!

I bought it from a small dealer, it was 44k milage, and looking beautiful, I adore the shape, the size, how cheap it was to insure and tax. BUT, by the end, nissan owners are paying more, than owning a blooming jaguar, or rolls royce. Becuase to repair this car is too damn expensive!

I owned the car for 1 day, before the engine light came on, took it back to the dealer who said its camshaft sensor, after replacing that, the light still was on, so they said its the timing chain... I'veresearched alot on this matter, and it looks like all owners of a nissan micra, will eventially fork out for a new timing chain, because it DOES NOT last the life of the engine, as nissan says.

My car is currently undergoing a new timing chain, I hope once its dont no more problems will arise, but deep down I know different.

I would not recommend this car to anyone, and as im stuck with it, I will try to get as much years out of it. BUT believe me I will not be selling it on, I wouldnt want anyone to have this much trouble with a car as Im going through. Its absoulutley disgusting, that nissan will not recall these cars, or even produce a new better lasting timing chain.

I know it wont be long before the new timing chain will stretch costing me more money than the cars worth.

Will i ever buy a nissan again, NO FREAKING WAY!

I Am In The Process Of Having My Nissan Micra Sort

I am in the process of having my Nissan Micra sorted. Its a 53 plate that I have owned for 7 years and only done 23k miles. I have had the engine management light on since xmas now, when it's plugged into the computer it shows a sensor fault. I have since had both sensors ( crank and cam shaft ??? i'm not sure if that's the corect name) replaced with out the problem being being fixed. I have now been told that it's the drive chain and am looking at a rough cost of £700-£800 to repair.

Not long after starting the engine the car loses all power with no response (vrrooom)from the accelerator. The engine is how ever still turning over. I have to pull over to the side of the road and turn the engine off, wait a min or 2 then start the car. Last time it happened i was on a roundabout !!.When it starts its very 'blowy' as tho there are no revs even if the accelerator is to the floor. I just have to keep pumping it till it sounds ok. The car has done the equivalent of 1-2 years mileage. The only saving grace is that it is the frist time in 7 years that I have had to send some money on it. If it were to have happened after a year or 2 of ownership ( if i did more miles ) I would be distraught . My local nissan deny its a problem saying it could happen to any car!! Very helpfull !! Up till now it has been a very reliable and great run around for my milage but I certainly wouldn't buy a nissan again.

I've Had My 2003 Micra For 6 Months Now And It Has

I've had my 2003 micra for 6 months now and it has just been diagnosed with having a stretched timing chain, costing £900 minimum for repairs. At first, I thought the car was great, I did have a few problems with it though. The first happened on the first day that I'd had it. I drove home from the garage that I bought it from and decided to fill it up with petrol only to find that the petrol door was not opening, I tried everything but it just wouldn't open. Needless to say, cars need petrol and without the door being open it's pretty hard to fill up! After taking it to a garage, that turned out to be something to do with a faulty cable. There were other small niggly problems on top of this but nothing serious, until now. I'm absolutely devastated that a car I've only had for 6 months needs such drastic work, all because of faulty parts on Nissan's part. The micra should have been recalled years ago for this timing chain issue. Overall, the micra should be a reliable car but unfortunately the stretched timing chain is an all too common issue with this model. Looking back, I wish I'd never got this car now.

I'm the original author of this review. So, I got the timing chain replaced by Nissan in October 2010 and got the car regularly serviced (with complete oil change), more often than stated in the manual and checked the oil every week. It is now 2012 and in April, after doing just 15000 miles since the timing chain replacement, the engine management light is on AGAIN and it's the same damn thing, the timing chain. There is not a chance in hell that I'll be paying for a replacement. I can't afford another car right now so I'm just hoping it'll last long enough for me to save up some money to trade it in and get another second hand car. Although, this time it definitely won't be a Nissan. 2003 micra's are a pile of junk, please, if you are considering buying one, I implore you not to. Even the Nissan mechanic said they're a joke and admitted that nearly every one the garage had sold came back with this fault.

How right you are my 2003 micra has timing issues the garage has said the engine has to come out and god knows what will happen to all the rest of the car whne they take it out the cost is 882.00 plus vat plus parts the car is worth £1200 it might as well go to the scrap yard at least ill get something for it

Can I Just Say That All The People That Have Had P

Can i just say that all the people that have had problems with the K12 Micra's electrics and engine (mainly timing chain) have Renault to blame, the K12 is built in france and uses Renaults petrol and diesel engines, hence the poor build and reliability. People should really do their homework before buying a new nissan as we all know french cars are built to a very poor stanard. If you want to buy a Nissan, it would be an idea to get an older model pre Nissan/Renault merger as the less the french have to do with The Nissan Corp. the better. I have had a K10 1.2 GSX, 4 Nissan Pulsar gtirs (still the fastest hatchback in history) and a vanette, they have all been totally reliable.

I Bought My 2004 Micra In January 09 And Ever Sinc

I bought my 2004 micra in January 09 and ever since ive had problems with it. After having the car about 6 months it suddenly stopped whilst i was driving on the motorway and later found out i needed a new clutch and gearbox!!! this cost me about £700 and was told at this time that the timing belt had already been changed (lucky i know). The engine light kept coming on after about 8 months and spent a lot of money on sensor lights for everything possible on the car. The cars now leaking oil and has a warning light now appears. I was told by my mechanic that its common knowledge that newish Micras are terribly made and prone to alot of expensive problems especially the timing chain. I think its awful that a 5 year old car has this many problems and nissan should take responsibility as so many people have had this problem. Would certainly not reccommend to anyone! (unless you really dislike them)

I Bought The Micra Last May From A Small Dealer. T

I bought the micra last May from a small dealer. The car has low milage and was very well kept. within a few days a sensor light came on so it went back to be replaced. Since then I have had the cam shaft sensor replaced. The engine management light is now on all the time and its showin the fault to be the timing chain. The car will not always start on a morning and its completely unreliable. After speaking to mechanics it is a common fault with the 2003 micras. I am definately going to take the matter further as there is a common fault and its very expensive to fix.

I Bought 03 Micra From New And Have Just Hit 35,00

I bought 03 Micra from new and have just hit 35,000 miles. I recently had problems starting my car in mornings (mostly when cold) and took it to local garage which diagnosed two faults. I had to take it to Nissan, cost me £83 to have it diagnosed again! They cleared the fault codes and told me the problem was fixed. when i picked car up next day, they informed me that it wouldn't start so most likely to be the timing chain and quoted £900+ to fix, but couldn't guarantee nothing else would go wrong! Dealer said it was probably because it was getting old and that it didn't have its last service done! I tried to argue that this seemed a manufacturing fault due to the low mileage- they just told me Nissan wouldn't accept responsibility as it was out of warranty and I didn't have full service history with Nissan. I drove my car for another two weeks and on Friday the engine warning light came on so now i am frightened to drive the car. Having been a careful lady driver, doing very little mileage, and on reading other reports of 03 micras I DO think this is a manufacturing fault. I am going to ring Trading Standards and get in touch with Watchdog re this as some other reviewers have mentioned they would do. Am interested to hear if anyone had any luck in getting their Micra fixed using Trading Standards or by any other means? I need help.......quick!!!
