If you're on a budget or need cheap insurance, the Peugeot 206 1.1 LX is very hard to beat. Very low running costs combined with CD player, PAS, auto Lights & wipers etc. make an extremely lovely car. I love it!

The 1.1 Engine On The Peugeot 206 Is Great For A F
The 1.1 engine on the Peugeot 206 is great for a first or city car!!! Parking is a piece of cake, even without the power steering. It has lots of storage space, but very little equipment in this standard model. Electric front windows and a superb audio system (K7), rear fog light and that's about it :). Newer models offer a bit more (X-Line: Airbags, Power steering, Front Fog Lamps as standard, new dashboard design + aluminium inserts at console and doors). I recommend the 1.4 HDi diesel, as I expect it to be THE bomb (though I haven't tested it, and so many cars disappoint me, so don't take my word for it). If the mileage per gallon isn't important, opt for the 1.6 HDi which should be the right engine for the car.
