Jaguar X Type 2.5 V6 SE

I bought my X-Type just over a year ago when it was two and a half years old. It had covered 32,000 miles and the only faults were some stone chips on the front and bonnet (caused by Jaguar having to use water based paint under European directives - weaker paint). The dealer serviced the car and put two new tyres on the back. The car benefits from 18" Aruba alloys and consequent very wide tyres. I found that it tended to wander over all types of road surface, sometimes alarmingly. I had the wheels tracked to no avail. Then the manager of my local Formula One garage suggested putting the new tyres on the front moving the older ones to the back. Hey presto! No wandering.

I only use the car at weekends and for breaks in the West Country and Wales. On the open road, the 2.5 V6 automatic is returning a creditable 34.2mpg and 31.1 overall since I've had it. The cruise control helps to smooth out the long journey and contributes to economy. Having said that, when in S mode and booted to the floor, I have found it to be very quick. I am not a boy racer, approaching retirement, but I was pleased to see off a Boxter recently in a short lived competition (the Boxter driver was trying and appeared startled as he struggled to keep up).

My only concern is the longevity of the paintwork. I had tried an S-Type before choosing the X as I did not like the low roof line of the S which appeared to restrict forward/upward visibility somewhat. Classically speaking, the S-Type may have been a better buy long term but I am pleased with my purchase. What is more, according to Jaguar World, Jags are holding their value and even rising over the past year. And yes, I would buy another, perhaps the diesel automatic as I am more interested in economy.

In all the years that Jaguar have funtioned they have never lost their perfection even though they owned by Ford. For the price you pay for a Jaguar you get a lot of car.

I had a Jaguar X Type 2.5 for 6 months....shudder.

On my first long drive, the radiator hose blew off as the system had been over pressurised by Jaguar.

I limped into the services but the damage had been done, blown head gasket and ruined engine. Total engine rebuild £3000, thankfully still under warranty.

Jaguar refused however to extend the warranty on the engine despite them having it for 6 weeks and a complete rebuild.

I was a sales rep doing 35,000 per year so servicing 6 times a year...ouch !!!

Bit the bullet, sold for a huge loss, now drive a Peugeot 406 3.0L V6 Coupe...nice !!

I have been driving my 2.0 litre Jaguar X type SE now for several months, and I'm pleased to say that so far so good. I have been all over the UK, both on business and pleasure, and every journey I have made has been fine. There is a feeling of allureness when you drive these cars, that seems to whisper along the road gently savouring the miles. I know that I should not expect Alfa Romeo swiftness, or BMW panache, but it takes a hell of a vehicle to make me look away and ignore the X type I'm currently driving. I guess I was a little peeved when the passenger seat belt failed to recoil, (the local Jag centre sorted without charge). The 6 x CD changer is great, the extras on the SE model are numerous, and the fuel is no worse than the average large saloon. Great drive, great looker, great things only about my X type.

Having an X type 2 litre manual was a joy but having traded up to a Jaguar X Type 2.5 V6 SE auto I am more than pleased. The auto box is magic and with the seloctor allows one to drive through bends with ease. Cruise control on the M-way takes out all the hard work. Had no problems after a year's motoring.

I have just changed my Jaguar X Type 2.5 V6 SE manual for a 3.0 se auto. The 2.5 was a lovely car to drive and own. At about 15,000 miles it needed a new steering rack and new shock absorbers but these were replaced under warranty. The main dealer service has been first rate. The SE spec. with leather interior and cruise control as standard is the best to have for enjoyment and resale. The trade value has been badly affected by the 2.0l cars.
