a car that can make you smile every time you drive it. and the pull that they have for what it is says it all!!! put the right driver behind the wheel and its a great toy.
unfortunalty mine whas killed by a french car pulling out but i would have another one any day and infact im still keeping my eyes open.
Things did go wrong and this is what you would expect by a car that age but there are cheap to fix when they do go wrong.
Hot hatch from the 80's and one of vauxalls finest vehicles made and i loved every minute of owning one!!!!!

I've had my gte 16v for 4 years now, I'll never sell it, it keeps costing me money but I love it, like other guy said its the type-r of yesteryear, every time I take it out I get more stares than driving a fancy BMW or similar, and it will never die I have loads of spares!

my wife has a champion every thing as standard , the only reason is because she never drives it and it has been in the back of the garage for 4 years . the car is about to get fully restored so there is no rust on the arches .

In terms of performance for your money, you won't find a better car then the Vauxhall MK 2 Astra GTE 16v. The champion version though is a lot rarer to find as they made only 500, especially a standard one. If you do find one, then think yourself lucky! These cars go on if looked after, its just a shame many of them have been abused, or dismantaled for there precious engine, and other goodies. The GTE 16v is slowly becoming rarer to find (standard)
i have a gte 16v and i bought the leather seats of ebay for £510 best buy i've ever bought. spent so much time and money on my astra love it, shame they didn't make more champions.
i totally agree about the appeal of these cars and it is such a shame they are becoming so rare only good thing is that their value will go higher. the only thing i have to disagree with is that they only made 250 models not 500 as stated. the reason i say this is because they were only registered in london and only two cars per dealer is how they were sold that is one way you trace a genuine champ by its original reg plate.
Yes, 250 WERE Champion........without leather and there were a further 250 leather editions as per info from Vauxhall...........
Good review although I think you may find that there were only 250 champion limited editions made, the cars were not numbered but they were made for the south east region dealerships only.
As well as the recaro seats,the paint colour is bordeax red and the graphics on the car are unique to the champion also.
Only 250 Champion Editions made and 250 Leather Editions made. All seem to be branded Champion, but they are not.
