The Volkswagen Golk M2 Is Fast Becoming A Classic.
The Volkswagen Golk m2 is fast becoming a classic. Ive owned 1 mk, 2 mk drivers(inc this 1) 2 mk2 gti's and a Vento.
Bought as a runabout for £250 after driving a top of the range Audi a6 and it took some getting used to but once I had it was great. None of the abs, power steering etc but great fun to drive. Its 1 of those cars where you feel the speed, 40 feels like 80 and you really feel like your foot is mm from the engine. Now it is obviously not as quick as the gti but you will be hard pushed to find anything for under £400 that will match the driver performance wise.
Advice is to try and buy off an older driver and avoid those with cheap modifications. These make an ideal car for younger drivers who want the Golfs looks without GTI's insurance but for this reason often have had cheap after market mods and if you want to keep your investment its best if its standard.
Conclusion: Golf is the best looking car ever in my opinion, a solid investment that wont lose any value if you look after it infact its becoming rarer and a classic so can only ever become more value.

I have a 1992 Vw Golf mk2 1.6 Driver, although the exterior was amazing mechanically my golf was one of the worst! My distributor was faulty, the ignition coil was faulty, and a few other things.. since ive had it, ive replaced my original shocks with new coilovers.. switched my bottom end with a 1.8one and now the car is unbelieveable! ive never had so much fun driving a car! ive driven alot of my friends cars such as corsa's clios saxos but nothing compares.. the drive in the golf is somthing else. only down side to it is the fact my insurance is stupidly high! £2500+ therefore ive had to result to insuring myself monthly. even so i would never sell my golf in a million years..brilliant car. amazing mpg..and quick even by todays standards.
I Think The Mk2 Golf Is Simply One Of The Best Car
I think the MK2 Golf is simply one of the best cars ever designed and made. I have a 1.6 driver and enjoy every minute of everyday driving it. I highly recommend this car to anyone intersted in getting any kind of Golf.

The Second MarkII VW Golf I've owned (the first being a 1.3) and I love it - bought it "without a starter motor" and then found that the lady had just flicked the immobiliser switch that some previous owner had put in.
I dunno what you mean about no grunt, drop from 5th to 3rd and FLOOR IT, watch that increase. Quite right about the driving position; I'm 6 foot 5 inches tall and I sit comfortably for up to 4-5 hours at a time. Fuel consumption is great... £15 from London to Nottingham (with petol prices averaging £1.27 on the way), compared to a Rover 216si which cost me £35 cruising at, ahem, "just over" 70mph.
My fiance is 5foot 3inches and can drive it as well.... she loves to stick the L plates on and go for a spin. Insurance is quite cheap due to age.
Engine nose isn't so much of a problem for me.... replace the door, and window seals...fill the doors with foam, get a new exhaust (manifold to tip - then the exhaust drowns out any tapping), and get the engine serviced/stripped cleaned and rebuilt with new parts - slightly expensive but worth it!

I Own A 1989 Golf Mk2 1.6 Driver, It Has Been Rece
I own a 1989 golf mk2 1.6 driver, it has been recently fitted with a weber 32/34 carb, GTi front suspension and GTi interior. Even though the interior was badly put on and is now decaying, the car is in great shape. The 1.6 has enough grunt for everyday stuff and enough for some fun, but it could do with more, maybe 100bhp rather than 75bhp. Boot space is great, rear leg room is good, and driving position is perfect. The engine is noisy due to its age, but its nothing disapointing. I recommend this car for first time driver as it has no driver aids, so you control the car, not the car controls you. No PAS, ABS, ESP, TC...nothing.
Great fun, average economy, awsome looks, reliable.
