Unreliable For Recreational Use
We have a lovely 2010 Transit Connect, but after two years of use - mostly around town - its transmission is faltering, unreliable. It requires several trips to the dealer a month for transmission repairs (under warranty). This is inconvenient when trying to plan weekend outings. I wouldn't recommend this vehicle as recreational. It must be driven slow, and kept lightly loaded. It is a pretty little putt-putt, without horsepower. Aside from that, it is a beautiful-looking vehicle.

Transit Connect Proper Van
Transit Connect its a company van not mine its used and abused although always serviced. I am also very qualifed to comment, first the build is excelent built like e real transit and not made of tin like its competition. i have done 100.000 but it had 35.000 on before i had it so 135.000 miles, its been up and down the motorway and offroad even got it stuck once which is quite hard as generally it goes any where. it has had a battery and exhaust front fog light and an alternator ( well 2 actually but 2nd was down to the garage replacing it by mistake ) and the first alternator i was driving with water coming over the bonnet so you can hardly blame the van for that. obviously it has had more but generally just service items and damage.
It has cut out about 3 times in the last 4 years but i have never reported this to garage, as i know how difficult these can be to trace and you would need to take to garage as soon as poss after or the code will be lost. fuel range is a little short but ideal for forcing you into a break on the motorway any way i have a choice of van and i am ordering another.

Great Small Van
I've had my Transit Connect T200 for 3 years and it's a great van. Good load area, light airy cabin with large glass area, and good to drive.
I have the 110ps engine and the van goes like a rocket. It will cruise happily at motorway speeds, and manages 40mpg round town/short journeys if driven with a degree of care.
Unusually for a van it's great fun to drive with responsive steering and good handling (for a van anyway) I fitted a rear anti-roll bar, standard on every variant except the T200 and this made a big difference.
Nothing's gone wrong with it in 38,000 miles except for a couple of software upgrades done FOC by Ford, and I'm still on the original brake discs/pads.
I paid £14,000 for my high spec version (twin side doors, aircon, alarm, traction control, glazed rear doors etc) and this was £4,000 cheaper than the equivalent VW Caddy so it was good value as well.

Bought This Van From New And All I Can Say Is That
Bought this van from new and all I can say is that I absolutely detest driving it. You put you foot on the throttle nothing happens then wham it slams you back in your seat. The throttle is so sensitive it is nigh on impossible to maitain a constant speed. You have to have your wits about you at all times because you don't know how it is going to react. Ford's answer: "That's how it is suppose to be." That is the only downside but it is a major one. Personally I think they should be recalled to sort it out because it is dangerous.
My Transit Connect was the same when I first got it. It's due to the engine needing some miles to loosen up.
At first I felt that it was bordering on dangerous pulling out of junctions, but after a while the fault went away. The engine also became smoother at low RPM, pulling away from about 1200 RPM in 4th where it shuddered under 1500 RPM at first.
It took about 20,000 miles before things were really improved, and to be honest another 10,000 before the issue was fully resolved.
It's now on 37,000 and is perfect.

Bought This Transit Connect Tdci Second Hand And N
Bought this transit connect tdci second hand and needed to put a New diesel pump on it within MTHS. OK its second hand and it had done a few miles so i did expect a few problems. The it needed 4 new injectors.(£1000) fitted and coded. Then it had starting problems so fitted new starter motor (genuine). Old starter would not turn engine over fast enough to get the pressure up enough from the new diesel pump but turned over fine. Then it started to cut out when going along the road at any speed which is dangerous as there is no power steering when this happens. Found the problem was the plug on the pressure sensor that's fitted to the spider in the middle of the front of the engine looses its connection causing the van to switch of which ain't funny at 70 miles per hour. If Toyota had a problem with the excelerator it is minor compared to this problem with the transit connect. Rang ford no Gold connector to repair this fault like on the Mondeo cam/knock sensor and cannot buy a new plug so cut plug of an soldered the loom to the pressure switch. Stopped the problem but what will break next.

Q&A
Has anybody had trouble with wear on inside of front tyres, despite tracking in all directions, and checking the camber etc? I still haven't cured the terrible wear encountered. Our previous Connect used to wear the insides, but not as bad as this one. Our previous Connect was sold with 360,000 miles, this one has covered just 220,000 miles and don't think it will last the pace of the previous one. Other than that both have been good vans.
Have a wobble on front wheels when doing 10 to 50mph. Is this normal?
