Considering its age, its still a quick bike. Pretty handling (not for racing!)

Reliable engine, just extra attention with the cams, "rockers". Do not rev it higher (start) than about 2000 rpm's. Let the oil sets in the higher regions of the engine.

Maybe a fiddle job, there is the famous Kawa-choke: up to 5500 rpm, without enough oil.... will hurt him.

Further its a fine Grand Tourer, can cruise with up to 170 km/h (Germany)

Also price-quality is the best you can get. Mine was € 600,- ! Excellent state, 61.000km, still runs fantastic!

Kawasaki Gpx750r 1989

Always wanted one back in the 80's and now have one. It is mainly blue and white with red pinstripes. Surprisingly nice condition. Ran like a bag of nails initially but have had new carb rubbers and a tune which has transferred the running. This is a crazy bike that loves to get over 6000 revs. She really takes off. It is also nice to ride steady when you can fight the temptation. Bought this with 21000 miles on the clock with plenty of MOT's to give confidence. A good service of fresh oil, oil filter and air filter have added to the easy running too. Feels very small initially but is surprisingly comfy. The fairing does a decent job and the seat is really nice. I would not hesitate to go on a long tour on her. There is still a very slight hesitation between 3500-5000 rpm but I wonder if it was always a characteristic of the model? Top gear is amazingly strong and flexible. Few bikes can do 30mph in top and still accelerate away when the speed restriction ends.

Overall I thoroughly recommend this bike. It is fun. It has a superb engine and you don't see many about these days. Like all old bikes, you really must give her some TLC. Find a good un' and look after it. Lovely!

I use to have a GPX750R red & White, it sure could over take fast (3rd gear 3 cars with a blip of the throttle), & sure can corner as I dropped my torso low over the tank then counter steered into the corners, but I should have put on race pipes & redone the air filter & fuel mix for more bottom bang as when taking of, I sure did many wheelies on her though.

One Of The Most Underrated 750's

I bought my Kawasaki GPX750 with over 80000km's on it and kept it for 5 years by which time it had 132000 km's and it was not only powerful (for its' day), handled well - (the guy talking about knowing how to ride a bike with a 16" front wheel should read "A Twist Of The Wrist" and you'll realize there's only one way to ride ANY bike - Counter Steer and the GPX is no different), was ultra reliable and introduced my then partner to pillion riding which she loved because it was such a comfortable 2up bike.

One of the reasons modern bikes handle better is modern tyres - remember this bike has crossply tyres so taking that into consideration it handled great. The engine is exactly the same as used on the later (and heavier) ZX7R endurance racer style bikes but in a different state of tune. It won an Australian Superbike Championship so the 16" front didn't seem to be a problem then (and modern Motogp bikes have started using the "new" 16" Bridgestones). How the wheel turns.

It never broke down or caused problems for me. During the time I had it I replaced the Chain and sprockets, brake pads, Steering head bearings, wheel bearings and a battery. In other words the normal consumables. I put a 4 - 1 exhaust on it and a factory jet kit and had it dyno'd and it was putting out just over 107hp with over 100000km's on it. The mechanic and I were pretty impressed. This is a 1989 model bike with a stock, original but well maintained motor remember.

They didn't sell well because they were released at the same time as the GSXR750 and the VFR750 Honda. Personally I thought it was the best of the lot - far more comfortable than the GSXR and just as comfy but far more exciting to ride than the VFR - but this was the beginning of the horsepower race and bikes which were more road biased than track usually got bad reviews. The Kawasaki ZX9R is another example. One of the greatest road bikes ever built but because the competition was faster and lighter on the track it got comparitively poor reviews yet where we spend most of our time - on the road - I've found very few bikes that can keep up point to point.

Needless to say I'm a big fan of the GPX750 and wouldn't minhd buying another one to keep as a collector. While modern bikes are so much quicker, in a lot of ways these were more fun because you could approach their limits on the road (you'd be flying though and you did need to know how to ride) which is impossible on modern bikes, they are so much better than any of we non Casey Stoners etc and in some ways it does take some of the fun away. Plus it was such an easy bike to maintain - screw and lock nut tappet adjustment - no shims and removing camshafts here.

Not A Learners Bike,

becouse it has a 16inch front @ 18inch back wheel you realy need to know how to corner ( normal riding )i.e. drop your body weight forward before cornering @ counter stare wheels,then leaning 45 degres over - i put on 120 front tire @ 150 back tire,using most back tread - 5 mm to edge -thats how i knew i could ride my bike harder @ better than the next guy on a GPXR750 cornering,but if you hang of like a racer thats cool but another method - i did this in front at lights @ was scraping foot peggs at left turn.

Very powerfull motor for overtaking i.e. 6 cars at once on open road @ fast cornering speed 3rd gear ``tight twisties`` or 4th gear wide sweepers,no problem on metal roads @ rain - just drop body wieght down @ forward,mine was a cool red @ white bike,i wish i had put on race pipes,K @ N Filter,reset jetts @ needles - that would have removed flat spot from iddle - it pulled good wheelies,id go 2 lamp post.good for pillians - did long trips with them,fairings hard to repair if get damaged,find a realy good plastic welder or replace it -i owened a new ZX7R in 1997 then a new ZX9R in 1999 -best ever

I Have Had My Gpx For 10 Years It Has Been Reliabl

I have had my Gpx for 10 years it has been reliable and fun and well maintained .

My bike is standard including the exhaust system (bought a std replacement from D&K who import from sunny salt free climes) The reason my review is favorable unlike the previous reviews is all down to maitainance.

The bike is slow by modern 750 standards but fast compared to 600 Bandits sv650`s the steering is quick and has been described as nervous by others

! have changed the tyre sizes from 110 to 120 and 130 to 140 every one will tell you never to mess about with tye sizes but it has transformed the feel of the bike its much nicer now!!!!.

The bike has taken me around Europe without a hitch. It will sit at 100mph on the autobahn, it pulls hard up to 120 and then it take ages to get up to its top speed (145mph on the clock).

The fairings ok but not the best for touring the screens a bit low for sustained highspeed work, Ive got a flip up screen that helps.

Brakes are ok twin piston sliding calipers but the hoses have been replaced with new braded ones.

Keep changing the oil and the filters and if you have bought a good one it will stay a good one. the suspensions ok Hagon do a shock for the bike and its worth the money. The front forks work ok even if the anti dive has given up but its an easy fix if you can get the parts.

I think you can tell I like the Gpx I also have a ZXR750h1 the gpx has the same engine and is lighter!!!!!! I also have an 1988 ZX10 and that is like a hgv compared to the gpx and is only faster/better on the autobahn.

Buy a good one and you will like it buy somethings thats sha**ed out of its brains and in need of tyres chains suspension hoses pads and has never been maintained and it will be a load of rubbish,all bikes will turn into a useless lump unless loved. Bayonet Bill

Clutch Stopped Working. Forks Leaking Badly. Left

Clutch stopped working. Forks leaking badly. Left hand indicators stopped working. Alternator went.

A Kawasaki GPX750R is a bike I chose as i wanted a bike between a CX500 and a FJ1200 my last two bikes .

The price of it was £450, and that is not cheap, even if it is a 1988 model as when I went to resell it £285 is all I got. The seller said he dropped the price from the £600 on eBay. He took my lower offer straight away. I had the bike for six months. In order to help anyone looking on eBay for a cheap bike be care full I have been stung now 3 times in a row.

A black Kawasaki GPX750R is what the stickers on the bike say, but it is called a ZX750-F2 according to the MOT and registration certificate for some reason. It was described as being in average condition, which is easy to argue about ratty condition is more like it. The bike came with an MOT until July 2011; that is just about a year, so you would think it should be road worthy.

The bike has a stainless steel exhaust (4 into 1), but someone has fallen off the bike, as the exhaust is dented and scratched it all over.

It had a new chain, the sprockets have not been changed and the chain needed adjustment, even if the MOT tester was supposed to have said the chain should be loose.

I am told the bike has new brake seals, but the brake pads are well used.

Oil and filters were said to have been changed, but the oil level was very low and needed a top up of half a litre! The oil looks dirty, so the question is when was it changed? The sump plug had been over tightened, so could be unscrewed by hand and cannot be re tightened. Had to seal it up after the oil change.

Clutch was jerky, and was also leaking; this had to be fixed as well; total cost was about £100.

The bike does have good tyres with plenty of wear left in them though. It has braided brake lines, so the originals must have been rotten. It is then a very cheap bike, not only to buy, but also to insure, as that was only £95.

There are plenty of parts and mod available everywhere. I had to replace the front forks; it cost £40 plus nearly two hours labour to do it. Annoying, as the same make and model of bike in perfect condition went on e Bay for £600 last week.

Another moot point is the top speed; it is restricted to 180.0 km/h (112 mph), yes restricted! Get near that speed and it is like you have just run out of petrol. I first noticed it trying to keep up with a BMW. I pulled over to the side as the previous owner had told me the carburettors were out of balance. But this seemed strange as the bike will do 60 mph in first gear without any problems, and there is also no backfiring. I even took it to a garage to get a quote on having the carburettors sorted out; he wanted four hours labour.

I was also told the engine was too quiet, which seemed strange, although he refused to do any work on it. It was then I went online and found out that all bikes sold in Japan are restricted.

The good point about this restricted performance is the bike has never been thrashed at high speed. Judging by the quietness of the engine, it has years of life in it.

I have not read a bad review of this particular model, and it seems even when not restricted, they are very reliable. I wonder if this is as they were originally built for endurance racing?

The few months of ownership have not been trouble free, what with the replacement forks and clutch leaking; one wonders how did it pass an MOT a few weeks previously?

I keep being suckered buying bikes on ebay. This is the third one. You can read about the others in my other reviews.

I think I bought the bike off you via e-bay, I found out about the sump bolt when it flew out and covered the rear tyre with oil - not pleasant but I'm still alive! I also had to replace the fork seals as the left one started leaking and the right fork had no oil in it what so ever.

Also the carbs were not attached to the airbox properly which also affected the performance - it runs ok now but stopping is another story

Also known as Kawasaki GPX 750R.Heavy bike but super powerful 109Hp engine. Pretty reliable, but I bought mine with 40k miles on it and it had a rocker arm about to go, which eventually went and was kind of a relief because it quieted the bike down a lot (intake rocker, 4 valves per cylinder so it was fine. I didn't know what was going on until 2 more rockers broke at over 80k miles at which point I opened it up and replaced all the intake rockers and the intake cam. I geared it up from stock hoping for better gas mileage but I'm not sure it helped because the speedo / odometer are a tad "optimistic" in the speed / distance traveled department.Never started smoking or burning oil at all.

Mine cost only £450 but I then had to pay £450 out to keep it on the road. It needed a new alternator and alternator belt, new front forks, the was clutch leaking so stopped working which is a common fault and I had a puncture. All very expensive. As I have also found out the bike is restricted so will not go much above the speed limit!
