Sure Footed Fun To Ride
l bought a 4S and rode it for for five years, some 1200 klms in a day, in their, so l know how it feels at the end of a big days ride, and let me say it was not that good on my body, having said that its the only point about the 4S l thought could have been better given this thing was a tourer, and it is in disguise, l had to give it a name so stomp was the feeling when you came out of a corner turn the gas and it stomped leaving you with no doubt it was not just a touring bike, race bread engine and the best handling bike l have ever owned, fed back from the road is as good as you get, and l was happy to allow two wheel slides on roads l know, characteristics of the 4S are very different to your Japanese machines, for one it fells very stiff and does not want to tip easily in to a corner you have to move you ass, but once you get comfortable man handling the thing wow, you find soon after how sure footed it is and rock solid at speed, no head shake no bucks or bounce just pure feel you've got to love a bike like that, l have now move to a multistrada 1200, good bike no soul like the 4S that's it say no more about that, but l can tell you l have just gone out and bought anther 4S ill keep the multi for long trips, but l will ride the 4S for the sheer joy of my spot.

The Ducati St4s Is Joy To Ride, Well Mannered And
The Ducati ST4S is joy to ride, well mannered and responsive. With 2 up the handling doesn't suffer. The fairing cuts the wind, but I would suggest a ZG aftermarket windscreen. the ZG is a little taller so the wind hits you at helmet top instead of shield high. Power comes from the 996 Desmo twin, at speed , it makes little difference 4th 5th or 6th gear just turn the loud lever and hang on, torque is plentiful and on tap. Everything fits and there are no leaks, paint is as good or better than the rest. If this is the class of bike you are looking at you owe it to yourself to give the ST an honest look. In a sea of UJMs and HDs this one stands out.

I have owned an 02 Interceptor to 12,000 miles (great bike bike) however desired more power. Took a long ride on a Triumph Sprint (was the one I was going to the dealership to purchase). And decided on the Ducati when I got there. Not to upset on the choice either.

Excellent All Round Motorcycle. It Handles Superbl
Excellent all round motorcycle. It handles superbly and can be trusted completely in the way it reacts to the road. It pulls like a train. The power delivery is excellent and so smooth. It does not need revs to perform and this makes for a feeling of effortlessness. The power is delivered so smoothly that it is easy to forget just how fast you are going until a bend is suddenly upon you. Fortunately at this point the fantastic brakes come into their own and the speed falls off as fast as it came. I have done several 300+ mile trips (stopping only for fuel) and arrived with out any aches or pains so I have to say it is extremely comfortable. I have owned the bike since new and have no thoughts of selling it at all.
Brilliant fun to ride!
My ST4 lives on an Optimate in the garage. Last time I rode to work, it refused to start in the evening - and it was not that cold! I think there must be something draining the battery, but goodness knows what (I'm on my 4th or 5th battery). Placing the battery under the fairing would not be so bad if they had designed the fairing so that it was easier to take off. To get at the battery you have to take virtually the WHOLE fairing off - you can't take the middle bits off witout taking the top fairing off and you can't take that off without removing the badly designed mirrors (they have brittle plastic arms which break if someone just brushes them when it's parked in a bike stand (a communal bike parking area here in the UK).

If You Have Never Ventured Riding A Big V-twin The
If you have never ventured riding a big V-twin then the Ducati ST4S is an excellent machine to own. The sound is great and the handling excellent. You know you have the power but it feels like a 750 when you are on it. I personally couldn't be happier - it is just a great machine. There are lots of information available for techophants. Take one for a ride - you won't regret it!

An Excellent Machine That Works Very Well In All A
An excellent machine that works very well in all aspects, I have ridden my Ducatti ST4S in storms, floods, snow, high winds, and it still starts ups with out argument everytime I press the button.
I have ridden a lot of singles and this is my first V-twin, all I can say is I'm suprised at the power and comfort of the bike, it was completely an accident I even considered the ST4s, I was looking to buy a VFR or a ZZR, but went for a test ride on one at a local dealer, and was blown away by the capability of the bike. The only thing that got me down was the price of the machine new, which I felt was expensive considering the current cost of other manufacturers. So I opted for a second hand one, of which I have no regrets. I have done nothing to the bike since I bought it except for changing the lightblulbs, which turned out to be a slow process due to the fairing, but I got it in the end. It's nice to have a fuel gauge on the display up front which has been accurate to me giving me plenty of warning about when the tank goes dry.
I'm not mechanically minded and have been worried by some of the myth's surrounding the marque but none of the reported worries have come true.
It's an absolute joy to ride. The steering is light and effortless, where ever you point it..... that's where you go, it handles the roads where I live very well and inspires confidence in my abillities to ride. The only drawback I find is that the steering lock is not very tight, so makeing a U-turn is not very easy for me. The brakes are fantastic with easy stopping power, but can be a bit unforgiving when used hard. The clutch is heavy and does take some getting used to. Rideing in town can be hard on your left hand, also it took me some time to get used to the gears, but now I'm comfortable with how the bike handles and what to expect when useing the power ( which is endless ).

The 2004 Ducati St4s Is An Incredible Motorcycle.
The 2004 Ducati ST4s is an incredible motorcycle. I can say this because I have owned and ridden numerous motorcycles. 93 Honda VFR 750F: 2000 Honda VTR 1000: 2001 Ducati 748s: 99 Triumph Daytona 955i: Ridden 2003 Honda VFR 800: 2002 Honda CBR 600: 99 Kawasaki 600R: 98 Triumph Daytona 1200: Honda ST1100.
So with this kind of motorcycle experience and saddle time I think that I can say that for SPORT TOURING this is the motorcycle to have. It has numerous electronic features that are incredible. From the head light that turns off after 60 seconds to save your batter if you forget to shut off motorcycle; to the electronic adjustable headlight. I have to say that it has the smoothest power of any motorcycle I have ever ridden. It is quite, smooth and responsive. I was very happy with its ability to ride 2 up in the corners and not feel like driving a 65 Cadillac. It has the comfort of a Lincoln Town Car it can corner like a Ferrari and has the power of a 996. What a combination.
The overall wind protection is really nice. Coming from a sport bike to this was a nice transition. You still get a little wind over the shield, when at speed the wind doesn't hammer you. I have been able to ride at speed with my visor up and a pair of sunglasses on and not get pelted by dust and bugs.
The digital dashboard is the best thing ever. I am very happy that Ducati has taken some of the technology from high-end automobiles and put it into this bike. You have numerous trip and gas consumption features. It is so nice to look at a dashboard of a motorcycle and see how much gas you have in the tank. There is even a special feature that tells when you need to take the bike in for service. Your local Ducati mechanic can adjust this feature.
This has to be the best motorcycle purchase I have ever made. I hope that this sheds a little bit of light on your decision on buying one.
Just rode my new to me, 2002 ST4s for the first time. Nothing I've ridden or owned previously has matched the power, ride quality, stopping power and fun that this bike delivers. Feel like Doohan out there today. this bike rips and sounds great doing it! Buy one, you'll love it!
