Dependable Honda 100cc

Bought a Honda SCV just to keep my insurance ticking over. I have been riding 1000cc sports tourers but this little scoot is fine 2 wheeled transport. Mine has only done 5,000 miles although 13 years old and on the flat will do 45mph, sometimes 50, but it goes uphill without losing much speed. So easy to service, less than a litre of oil and one spark plug. Bless it, it starts on the button even if I've left it for 6 weeks. Good little scooter, very economical, better than a 50cc 2 stroke I tried.

18,000 On A Honda Scv Lead

I have had the Honda SCV Lead for one year now and have put 18,000 extra kilometers on the clock.

In all that time I had just one problem - a snapped CVT belt.

Why it snapped I do not know as it was changed at 25,000 kms and the new one broke at 31000!

Although I have had 85kph going downhill on a long road I find the little scooter will cruise all day happily at 60-65 kph without using oil and offering wonderful fuel consumption.

It starts first time every time and I have used it every day this past year except one day when the ice was too slippery.

I live in Hungary and the winters can get cold but it worked every day.

This is my working bike, not a weekend hobby bike and as a workhorse it cannot be beaten.

I live 50 kms from Budapest and daily trips can be a little slow at 65 kph (which is why I am changing it).

Once it is in the city it is second to none. Fast away from the lights, easy to handle and park and it is the perfect city or suburban bike. The only two points I would like to improve are that it would be useful to have a sidestand to hop on and off quickly - and the underseat storage could be a bit bigger to fit an open face helmet.

Reliable And Economical

A good little scooter, very small and light.

Acceleration is very good - it'll beat most cars away from the lights (unless they're really going for it).

Top speed is not so good. Bank on a cruising speed of 45MPH maximum, the variator keeps it moving along on the hills well enough. Performance wise it's a little faster than a C90 most of the time and quite a bit faster than a C90 up the hills.

Servicing is easy, screw and locknut tappets and a litre or so of 10W40 oil and you're done.

Handling is pretty horrible, but then all scooters do handle very badly so I don't think it's any worse than the rest.

The brakes are good enough.

The seat is large and comfy and there's some underseat storage, though not enough to put a helmet. I can get waterproofs, a chain and lock and my lunch under there.

In general I'd recommend it, not so good for long distances due to the top speed but I've done some longer runs on it and it's not so bad once you get in the zone.

3 months into ownership now, 2000 miles clocked up. It's a brilliant little thing. I've seen 54MPH on the clock but I stand by my previous 45MPH as the maximum cruising speed - it must be doing 7000 RPM at that and I think that's enough!

A Very Economical Bike

I have it already one and a half year and it works perfectlym, till now it hasn't any problem exept that it burns a little oil after 2000 km. I would recomend it to everyone that wants an economical, powerful and safe motorcycle. I live in a village of Greece that has many uphills, I am 95 kilos and it can transfer me through these uphills easily. The only thing that I don't like is that it's not very fast only once I runned with 85 kilometers per hour and since then I can only reach 80 km. The conclusion is that, although is a little slow, it is wellmade and it is powerful

Honda Scv100 Lead Great Runner

I have had a Honda SCV100 Lead since April. I have had only 1 problem with it in that when it is a hot day the engine will stall if I stop at traffic lights. I overcome this by slightly revving the engine. Apart from this problem (not much of one with the British summer!)I have travelled over 3,000 miles both locally and on long journeys of about 150 miles without any other problems.

Disapointed Speed

i have just bought a honda lead 100cc.but find its top speed of 40mph on open road slow for a 100cc it pulls well on hills but its overall speed is disapointing.

Your top speed should be about 50-55mph. If you bought it second hand it may need tappets adjusted .

Slugbabydotcom

Something wrong there! Mine does about 50 on the flat. Maybe its restricted or has a tuning issue

Honda Scv100 Lead

38k miles, not one break down or serious issue at all in four years of ownership and it cost me just fuel, oil and tyres & two drive belts (changed at service). These little underated scooters are what Honda do best. I know you can get a 125 Chinese scooter with disc brakes, stylish plastics, & a little more power, and free top boxes etc for quite a bit less, but would it last as long as one of these? I doubt it very much.

It's not the most powerful of scooters, nor is it high tech either. What it is, is a reliable, and typically well built scooter that Honda are renowned at doing best. After all we all have to thank them for the legendary C90 Cub. Don't waste your money on cheaper subsitutes, as a few mates of mine have already found out, it'll only cost you twice as much in the end.

Q&A

Bradico

What should be the correct pressures for front and rear tyres of the Lead scv 100?

allotmentlady

How much should I pay for one that is 6 or 7 years old 108cc?

Biker_Bob

Mine was 7 years old with 14000 miles, I paid £550 for it.

I've seen them for £500 with upwards of 25000 on the clock, but I'd buy one with less than 20000 given the choice.

rsc37

What engine oil should be used for Honda SCV100 Lead?

Biker_Bob

10W40 semi synthetic. Change it every 1000 miles
