Unreliable, But Good On Occasion

I brought a 2012 grey peugeot v clic and my first impressions were positive, the moped is small, cheap to run and smooth to ride, however after owing one for 6 months ... the variator, the drive belt, the carburettor, the throttle cable, air box and the electric start all broke, the moped on one occasion decided to fully accelerate without my doing (throttle cable seemed to stick quite a lot) and i almost ended up over a roundabout into the back of a van ... slightly dangerous. its really worth looking elsewhere as its an absolute pain to start when its cold and will cost you a fortune in parts and labour. (not another peugeot). The moped goes a relatively quick 40mph ish which for a 4stroke 50cc isn't bad in case you were wondering.

Please Do Not Buy,if At Risk Of Heart Attack

My mum bought it from a shop for £700 and as thankful as I am that she bought me a bike,I honestly wish she hadn't.had it for just less than 50 weeks.20 of which it was being repaired.had it serviced twice in that time and to a cost of £450.once it starts running it is a great bike but your playing Russian roulette, sometimes it starts up and others you just want to shoot yourself.got it back yesterday from a shop in folkestone (passed it's mot) rid it back to ashford which is about 35 minutes left it for a couple of hours and now won't start.please do yourself a favour and don't buy one.unfortunately can't get 0 stars.

Good, Gets You From A To B.

Overall this is a very good little moped it does the job of getting me to and from work and school (a distance of 12 miles). One problem I have with it is starting it once it has been cold for a few hours, however this can be overcome by letting the bike warm up for a few minutes before you ride it. I have heard from an expert that most 50cc mopeds do have trouble when cold, so I would recommend this to a fried.

Worst Purchase Ever

I bought the v clic in July 2012, to transport me to work as my shifts were finishing later at 1am, therefore couldn't use public transport. After collecting the bike it stalled three times on the way home. I had to return the bike after only two days, as it was cutting out at junctions and even as I went around islands. The fuel switch was changed, this repair lasted a week and it failed again. Packed up 5 times, done 6k, now starter motor knackered. Don't buy!

Absolute Rubbish Nothing Good To Say About It

I bought this bike in 2011 as a means of getting to work. cost me £1000 and I must have spent the same amount on repairs since then. I have ridden scooters since early 80's and have had 2 or 3 second hand bikes.I needed another bike and thought this one seemed just right for me. I had trouble with the bike ever since I got it. I bought it from a shop and I have taken it back so many times I have lost count. I have trouble starting it every time it rains or is really cold. I have had the speedometer, the carburettor, the drive belt, 3 spark plugs, 2 batteries and various smaller parts all replaced and still I have a load of unreliable rubbish. Iwould gladly get rid of my bike if I wasn,t so broke from all the repairs and bus and taxi fares I have had because of it. Take my advice and don't touch it with a barge pole!! Peugeot v-clic is trash

V Clic Good When It Actually Works, But A Lot Of Problems.

I bought my V-Clic brand new in September 2012, I was new to the world of motoring having just got a CBT. Basically the only advice I had been given by other motorcyclists was do not buy a Chinese scooter and especially do not buy a direct bike (scooter.co.uk etc), so when I saw an affordably priced Peugeot moped on offer at just £250 more than a Chinese one (£1000) I jumped at the opportunity, thinking Peugeot was a reliable french brand.

WRONG. This is a direct bikes scooter, baotian, pulse, all these brands ALL use the same scooter, the only difference is the logo put on and the Peugeot scooter has a nicer looking speedometer and headlight. So at this point I have already overspent by £250 when I could have got the equivalent Chinese scooter with the same warranty.

Ok so so far I have done about 8000km on this scooter (5000 miles) in the space of 6 months, yes this is a lot for a 50CC scooter admittedly, but I live in the countryside and have to get about.

Good parts:

The scooter is very comfortable, it has enough space under the seat to fit in a cable lock and a half face helmet. The speedometer is very nice looking compared to other mopeds (obviously this isn't important but it is a plus!)

100 miles per gallon

Great breaks (to start with then they give up)

Not a big scooter so easy to get between traffic

Two person seat (although quite where the second person is meant to put their feet I don't know)

Now for the bad parts:

Fuel tank capacity of just over 3 litres. While it does do 100 miles per gallon this is only enough capacity to drive about 70 miles before you have to get more fuel (very annoying when you drive as much as I do)

Top speed de-restricted of 35 miles per hour, you can get it faster by taking washers out but this will make the scooter even more unreliable which you DO NOT want to do, will ruin the warranty as no dealer garage in their right minds would de-restrict it to this level and would probably destroy the bike.

Headlight is awful you can see maybe 15 metres ahead of you on full beam

The services that you HAVE to have to keep it under warranty, which trust me you need, first is 500km, then 2000km, then 5000km, then it goes every 5000km from then on so 10,15,20etc. The first three are quite close together which is about £160 in total for those three services. They get a lot more expensive as you go on and need more parts which I am dreading the cost of my next one.

Now what has gone wrong:

150km in: something came loose in the engine making it incredibly loud and chavvy, fixed in 5 mins under warranty (apparently a common fault)

250km in: horn broke (fixed under warranty)

500km in: horn broke again (fixed under warranty)

1000km in: back light blew, causing me to nearly die on the dark dual carriageway (fixed under warranty)

3000km in: electric start gave up, had to kick start it in the cold mornings some mornings it would not even start, I found out online it had spark plug issues and had a new one put in (an NRG one, the one it comes with is a very bad quality one, cost of replacement £15)

5300km in, 300km after last service: speedometer stopped working, brakes a LOT less effective with a still 50% full brake pad (speedo done under warranty, brakes not covered by warranty)

5500km in, exhaust pipe fell off, the welding had come undone at ALL 4 points and the screw holding it in place had snapped (dealer is currently trying to get peugeot to send a new exhaust under warrenty, however it's a "wearable" part which it doesn't cover, clearly any exhaust which falls apart at 4 different points within 6 months however is not down to wear

5700km in, having to kickstart it again because it has gone through another spark plug

6000km in fuel line has snapped and my petrol is over the floor, just been fixed by the AA.

When this scooter works it's a great scooter, starting first time and accelerating reasonably quickly (0-30 in about 8 seconds, alright for a 4 stroke), and the fuel economy is incredible. However the amount of time I've had to have it in the garage is ridiculous, if I hadn't had parents who feeling sorry for me had given me a lift to work when it breaks I would have lost my job by now. You also can't change the oil yourself without ruining the warranty so fun fun fun there, it's incredibly slow even when derestricted, on a hill you will get about 20mph out of it.

If your budget is tight and you really need a scooter and want a cheap new one, don't buy the Peugeot one, buy the IDENTICAL Chinese version, Pulse Scout, Baotian Speedy etc, a lot of these scooters second hand will probably have endless mechanical problems to come, but they are cheap to repair because Chinese parts are so cheap. My honest advice: if you want a brand new scooter with peace of mind but at a cheap price, buy the Pulse Scout or similar scooter from a scooter shop that offers a warranty, make sure you know they are trustworthy first as otherwise your warranty will be worth nothing, don't bother paying the inflated £250 extra price of a Peugeot scooter which is literally just an extra badge. If you have extra money though buy a Honda they are the most reliable scooters you can buy, also if you are 17 or over get a 125cc scooter, 50cc scooters are operating at full power most of the time just to get you along and this is never a good thing, whereas on a 125cc you can cruise at speeds that a flat out 50cc struggles with

Q&A

Lamppost123

Just changed oil seals in crank and drive shafts, bike now isn't accelerating as normal. Could I have tightened the nuts on the shafts too tight?

peter2189

What's wrong with the throttle because when you start it up the bike goes without you pulling on the throttle?

Megahhh

I have a 2012 peugot v clic, and was just wondering how many miles could I do before running out of petrol? The gage is currently on the line above the red area.

TJ1234

What's better a Peugeot v clic or an aprillia sr 50?
