Yamaha Goes Out Of Their Way To Make It's Bikes Hard To Work

Like the Virago I had before this even the simplest routine maintenance is made harder BY DESIGN.

You can't get to the rear air stem to check the tire pressure. You have to be careful when checking the oil level not to burn your hand. Getting to the battery is a major project. Adding oil is very difficult. You have to take the front end off (One hour labor if you have it done) to change a headlight bulb. Worst of all are the air filters. Badly located so that they suck up road dirt, both are very expensive & they are hard to replace.

There's more but that's a good start. It's also hard to see the instrument panel if the sun is anywhere ahead of you.

Very Dependable Transportation

I have a 2006 Yamaha Majesty since 2006 and commute 80 miles to and from work From Walnut Creek to Fremont Calif. I get a consistant 56 to 60 miles per gallon and I ride in Californias HOT lane where I am at a constant 70 mph to 80 mph . The bike is consistant and easy to maintain as it is to drive. I bought a custom made seat throug Corbin and it made it very comfortable and also bought the corbin backrest to go with the leather seats. The Side wind flares from Yamaha work well to keep the wind away from your legs and that works also with the rain. The Yamah touring windshield is worth the cost as it deflects wind around you and the passenger.

Great Commuter

I bought my 2007 Majesty new in Feb 08 as a work commuter. I lived 10 miles from work and the 20 mile roundtrip was a gallon a day in my old Jeep. The Majesty not only saved a considerable amount of gas but is a great and fun ride. The last three years I worked I only used a quarter tank of gas in the Jeep from April to October, that showing how much I used the scooter. Now that I've retired my ride is a fun ride only and I find myself inventing excuses to run errands with the Majesty. I'm not a small person, over 300 lbs and the Majesty hauls my big backside around with no trouble at all. I haven't seen another Majesty anywhere here in Alaska, wish more folks here would discover how great scooters are. Being a one lunger means it is a little rough at low speeds, I just keep the revs up until I get to cruising speed. I've driven it from Seward to Anchorage (a 260 mile roundtrip) a number of times over the past couple of years, and it handles the highway and the mountain climbs with aplomb. I'd love to try a 650 scooter, the BMW looks nice, but at over twice what I paid for the Majesty, I doubt I'll get one.

I had a 2008 Majesty and now have a 2014 after trying a Suzuki Bergman 650 and a Honda CTX 700. Yes, I'm back into a scooter as my permanent choice(?). I had a charger pigtail installed before delivery which takes care of the acrobatics to change or charge the battery. The muffler seems to be a bit louder than my '08. The 2014 Majesty (there are no '15s) is a keeper.

Riding The Majestry 400

I have owned four of these machines, found them spelndid for commuting. Daily 50 miles home (Essex) to Central London. have ridden long distance from London to Newcastle, and Liverpool, and Manchester, and Leeds all journeys from London, average mileage 11,000 per anum. Very reliable, service intervals are good 6,000 between servicing, (oil change at 3,000 but no filter change so easy to do yourself).

What does require getting used to is the handling, giving up my touring days on my Pan European in comparison Honda 10/10 Majesty 4/10. Cornering in the wet can be tricky and cross winds are challenging. I put it down to the smaller wheels. This machine cannot be "thrown" around it needs concentration and care. single cylinder there is a lot of vibration and rattling when pulling off or in heavy stop/start traffic, after 2000 revs no problems, nice smooth ride.

My opinion if you want a good clean, relatively cheap to run commuter, that is comfortable to ride and legs friendly, then it might be for you.

Needs Improving, There Are Better Alternatives

I owned one from 2008 to 2011. The acceleration was very poor. It improved a bit on fitting a J Costa variator, but the still sluggish performance made it dangerous joining fast traffic on motorways.

A buzz developed on the exhaust heat shield as it loosened, but despite tightening the screws as hard as possible, the screws came out, the shield dropped off and got destroyed by traffic behind me. A replacement cost £160 including fitting. By the time I sold it, the buzzing was back as it worked itself loose. I've seen quite a few Majesty 400 with bits missing from the exhaust, now I know why. Absolutely nowhere solid enough to mount a GPS. Finally, it's wider than other 400 cc scooters, so weaving through traffic was harder than it should have been, making me wish I had bought a narrower, faster T-Max instead.

Otherwise, good build quality, space below the seat for two full face helmets, a couple of usefull compartments in the dashboard, one of which could be locked. Very good weather protection. It always started the first time.

Watch out for service costs - this scooter (in common with others?) had many expensive air filters that needed regular replacing.

I replaced it with a Honda NT700, a great move :-)

Great Ride

I have had my majesty 2005 bought new in 2007 . I live in nw Montana so I ride mostly in the spring thru fall season. i use to ride the big boys but age made drop down to the majesty. I ride it to glacier national park and it performs great. Only bad thing is local dealer service is to expensive for the time it takes to service the scooter.

Yes Your Majesty!

What a fantastic bike. Fits me like a glove, most comfortable bike I've ever owned. Engine shakes a little at idle, then smooths out with no vibration at cruising speed. Good power, easy to balance, low center of gravity, good wind protection, no engine heat, superb seat, huge underseat storage, great looks, reasonable service schedule, and it's a Yamaha!.

Cons: mirrors not positioned well. No airbags. :)

I have an '05 and had the same problem at around 15,000 kilometers. It's the speed sensor at the front wheel. It needs to be removed and lightly coated with lithium-based grease.

Did you check to see if the Brakes are Dragging?? The Rotors come off with the Wheels.

belamis

it seems that you had a hole in the membrane in the injection...

Is the lid for front storage compartment B available for purchase on any site? I can not find one.

I own a 2010 Yamaha Majesty (YP400). And purchased a Leo Vince Exhaust system (Part#7441). I'm told this is the correct system. But The Muffler Bracket is the wrong size. All 3 bolt holes don't line up. Am I Missing something here?? The system is listed for a XP400 which is a Euro Model. The Only difference I see is the Front Brakes. The Euro Model has Dual Rotors and Calipers. Along with a different Tail Lamp. They look Identical. The Pipe has a Bung for an O2 Sensor. Which mine doesn't have. Does come with a Plug.
