2007 Yamaha Majesty 400
I bought a used 2007 Majesty 400 in 2011. After ordering the scooter the owner discovered he had colin cancer and although he had a successfull operation, he was unable to use the bike. His family put something over 500 kilometers on it before I bought it. I took it away on the first day of spring, 2011 and rode it around the B.C. interior until November that year. I put exactly 9000 kilometers on it befor putting it away. I brought it out again in February this year. By this time I was very pleased and confident with the scooter and decided to take it on a trip to southern Ontario. I traveled at 110 to 120 on most hiways [the average traffic speed] and 120 plus on the Praries. In southern Ontario I toured the secondary hiways at a very pleasant 100 kph. On the trip back, I encountered a lot of stormy weather and found that if I keep to 100 to 110 kph, the scooter felt very secure on the road. [Any rider has to find their own comfortable speed and remember you have less traction on wet roads.] I put 8910 kilometers on the scooter on this trip, and rode in just about any summer condition you would encounter in this country and when I got back my scooter was running and looking every bit as good as when I left. I've owned a lot of bikes and have done a lot of continental traveling in the past 51 years and I believe this has been the first time I have not had to do a single repair, mechanical or welding, on the road, except for a flat tire I got in a motel parking lot. It was also the most enjoyable long distance ride I've ever had. The seat was extremely comfortable and, once I found my personal riding position, I could go for a full tank without stopping. A full tank is 360 to 370 kilometers, but you want to stop before 300 kilometers. Especialy on the praries or after 5:00 in the evening. Important not to run out!!! On the hiway I got about 25 to 27 kilometers per litre of fuel, depending on the terain and how often I passed. I often hit 140 and on occasion as high as 170 kph, but I don't like to say that too loud. Over 120 kph decreases your fuel mileage. Also at between 100 and 120 kph, the engine is extremely quiet and smooth. I think that is the range that the counter rotating balancing flywheel is tuned for,if it has such a thing. I'm told it does. If you tuck your head behind the windshield, you can hear the tires as well as the purring of the engine. I love a single cylinder because even at 5000 rpm, it sounds like it is just ticking over. I had intended to put a larger windshield on before I left but didn't get around to it. I discovered though, that there is absolutely no need for a larger windshield and it would probably reduce efficiancy. The aerodynamics keep the wind off your hands [within a fraction of an inch envelope] and a small faceshield keeps you totally out of the elements. Except in heavy crosswinds, you get just enough of a soft breeze to remind you that you are in open air. And about wind: I hear so much talk about wind but in all my years of hiway riding, the only winds that have been a problem are the kind that nobody should be out in anyway. You take control of your machine! This bike is no more affected by wind than any other bike, and I had some pretty serious winds on this trip, including some that common sense told me to find a safe place inside somewhere. [Trees falling down and such]!!
To sum it up, I feel that, over all, this is the best bike I've ever owned and I plan to keep it until either it or I die. I don't need anything bigger and I don't mind that scooters are not trendy in Canada and I don't need to look like a 1 percenter. I just want to enjoy my ride!!!
Very thorough review, and keeping to the stuff that matters, how the bike performs on the road.

2006 Yamaha Majesty
I am an experienced rider who owned and have ridden various bikes intermittently over the years. The largest bike I ever owned was a Kawasaki 900. In later years I rode a Yamaha Maxim 650. More recently my wife and I owned a couple of 150 cc scooters. I had a Tomos 150 Nitro, and she had a Chironex Chase 150. My wife decided she was just as happy being a back seat driver, so we looked for something a bit bigger that would comfortably allow 2 adults to tour comfortably and even feel safe and have enough power to travel on interstate highways. I did a fair bit of research before making my decision. I had already decided to go for a maxi-scooter. I am 60 and will need knee replacements later this year. That too is why I chose to stay with a scooter. I looked at the Suzuki Burgman in both sizes. I also considered the Honda Silverwing 600. In the end it was the positive comments on this site that prompted me to purchase a used 2006 Yamaha Majesty. It was a one owner machine with some upgrades that included a Starcom 1 communication system that provides music and comfortable 2 way conversation with your passenger at higher speeds. The technology now available in the newer maxi-scooters is actually pretty amazing. The Majesty comes with a water cooled fuel injected 34 HP single cylinder engine. As advertised it has more than enough power to take 2 people up to 120 kmh and cruise at that speed all day. It will actually achieve a top speed of 170 kmh with maybe a bit left over. Yes I did take it on a test run. I didn't have my back seat driver with me on that occasion. Comments about the stock windscreen were accurate. It does leave a bit to be desired as it relates to wind turbulence around the top of your helmet, if you are much more than 5'7". I am 5'11" and today I installed the Givi touring windscreen. It is what I had hoped for. If you sit back against the driver backrest and relax you are pretty much completely protected. If you want more clarity of vision you just have to move forward an inch and sit up straight so your line of sight is above the windscreen. Actually I don't find looking through the windscreen to be a problem anyway. I am more than pleased with my purchase. I will be having fun on this majestic machine for years to come. So will my back seat driver.
Majesty 7th Year
I bought my Majesty in March of 2005, as of now I have just over 48,000 miles. This Scooter has been absolutely fantastic, and extremely reliable in the 7+ years I have had it. I commute to work 5 days a week, and for this time frame I have averaged 52 miles per gallon. I have done a few longer rides, and then get much better mileage, around 65 to 70. I regularly travel at speeds between 80 and 90 with no problems. I have noticed that in the past few months the scooter has begun to make a weird noise while I'm riding. Just researched this online and have found others have experienced this also, with the solution being to take of the front wheel, and then grease the speed sensor. A number of people have posted that this makes the sound go away. Anyways, I have loved this scooter, and will be looking to purchase a new one within the next year.

Bought This Bike Last Year Having Previously Owned
Bought this bike last year having previously owned the 1996 yp250. It has loads of storage which was the main reason for purchase but also has enough 'go' in it to make it an awesome travel companion. I've used it for everything from camping trips to commuting and regularaly get 70+mpg. My only criticism is that the bike could have been finished better. Being a single cylinder it does not need encouragement to produce the ammount of bodywork rattle it gets...and they are mostly immpossible to find.
Overall though Yamaha YP400 Majesty is a great bike.

The Yamaha Majesty Is A Lemon, In The Truest Sense
The YAMAHA MAJESTY is a LEMON, in the truest sense! I you haven't figured out that you've been had yet, give it time, you will. I thought it was GREAT too, until the ECU/ELECTRICAL problems started. It's so horrible the dealers can't even repair them! Mine is 3 pampered years old, and under 2,800 miles and it is ruined, not to mention the 2 recalls in 3 years. Beware, when the 1 YEAR WARRANTY expires, and YAMAHA refuses to send your dealer a new ECU, which won't matter because they come flawed from the factory in JAPAN anyway, and the dealer tries to suggest that perhaps it was something that YOU did wrong!! I've got a ton of info on this at www.myspace.com/yamahalemons, read it for yourself, I'm just here to inform, not to influence.

Moved Up From A Piaggio X9 250, And Have Now Had M
Moved up from a Piaggio X9 250, and have now had my YP400 for 3 and a half years and done 26,500 miles. Fantastic all year round commuter/tourer. Very comfortable and plenty of storage space, plus lockable glove box. 40 mile a day commute gives me about 65mpg, on a mix of A and B roads and Motorway. Touring you can get over 70mpg, if not hurrying.
Plenty of power for overtaking, and pretty stable, even in windy conditions. Surprises other "bike" riders who don't expect such good performance from a "scooter".
Only let me down once - starter motor failed at just over 25,000 miles. Dealer and Yamaha never known this to have failed before. Had the unit reconditioned, and been OK since, though expensive to fix as almost everything had to be removed on the bike, to get at it.

The 2007 Yamaha Majesty Yp400 Is An Excellent Maxi
The 2007 Yamaha Majesty YP400 is an excellent Maxi Scooter. It costs less then the Burgman 400 by Suzuki but is very similar and equal in performance. The bike is so far trouble free. I like to ride it in the summer and to work. I am not that comfortable on the highway in traffic or in gusty winds. It is a blast to ride!
Very good value for price. Fun to ride, especially for beginners. Good styling, braking was good, easy to steer, very well balanced. Like the Yamaha Blue color, would have rather had Silver or Black.
The Yamaha is simply amazingly fast and reliable I have nothing bad to say about it.
Mine is 2007 and I've done major hiway trips. You don't need to feel uncomfortable on any hiway and it handles serious winds well as long as you take aggresive control. Common sense has to prevail though. Some winds are dangerous for any vehicle. In traffic you want to avoid the blind spots of other vehicles. If you can't see the driver in his mirror than chances are he can't see you. But in traffic this machine is as safe as any motorcycle and that depends on good defensive driving.

I Have, And Continuing To Enjoy My Four Year Relat
I have, and continuing to enjoy my four year relationship with my YP400, I ride it all year round for work and pleasure. I would ideally prefer a V twin motor of larger capacity, such as Gelera have brought onto the market.
Q&A
