Be Careful With Pure Plastic Surfaces

I bought a Pure radio that had a smooth surface that became very sticky after a while. I could not get rid of it with ordinary cleaning and the radio became very dirty because of it. Not sure if it was this model. My advice is to avoid any maker that use this 'easy touch' material as it seems designed to make the radio useless after a while. Always check this by seeing the model and be careful buying offline as you will not know the surface. Other consumer items are now having this coating applied to them.

Looks Good; Sounds Good; Fails Too Quickly.

I received the Tempus-1 as a present and was so impressed that I purchased one for my radio-loving sister. After a few years I was unable to get the volume to dial down to zero; the lowest volume I could get was too loud for late-night listening (for fear of waking others in the house) but acceptable for daytime listening so I persevered. Then, one day my screen just went blank but stayed lit up. No information, no buttons worked, no joy when plugged into laptop. My sister's Tempus-1 has gone the same way. This was not a cheap radio. I now own a very expensive, attractive block of wood with some buttons on it.

There is no support on the Pure website - just a PDF download of the user manual; whoopee. I expect better. I shall not buy from this company again.

Landfill Fodder

I bought a Tempus 1 and was pleased with its sound quality and features. So I bought Tempus 1 XT after 12 months. Both failed after a couple of years. The displays went first and then the sound. I feel cheated, given these were quite expensive radios at about £100 each.

Pure Tempus 1

Well, where to start. These Pure radios really poorly built! I also have a Techniks DAB from Tesco and did a side by side comparison, and compared to the Techniks, the Pure is VERY cheaply made, I would say shoddy! The aerial lead is not terminated with a plug, the Techniks is. There are other things which annoy me about the Pure, difficulty in removing the panels from the outer case!

To sum up, would I buy one?

A resounding NO!!! They are overpriced and very short lived!!

Spend your money elsewhere!

Designed To Fail?

Had a pure dab, evoke one. Lasted about 5 years then it suffered a loss of software meaning it was useless.

Pure admitted that they could not repair it, offered a pathetic discount on a new one. Refused to confirm that they would be able to repair this one in the future either!

So, it went to landfill. We bought a second hand Crown DAB via ebay.

This is a much better radio, more sensitive, better sound and has been utterly reliable for 3 years. It cost £12, that's value unlike Pure.

The problem with Pure seems to be low temperatures particularly when not turned on.Destroys the memory ( Cmos? ) so why Pure can't repair is just their marketing ploy.

Never buy anything by Pure, tell your friends not to either.

Maximum 5 Years Of Life - Don't Buy Pure

I thought Pure was a good name in DAB radios, it was certainly not the cheapest at the time I bought my Tempus-1. I have owned it for 5 years with only modest use in that time and the blue display no longer lights up - unfortunately that means the time doesn't show and nor do any of the stations. Judging by other similar reviews this is clearly a design fault which Pure are not taking responsibility for. Unfortunately before this problem manifested I bought another Pure DAB for the kitchen, the Chronos CD, and whilst the radio is fine the CD is extremely tempremental. Moral of the story - don't buy Pure!

Worst Value For Money Ever

Great functionality, easy to use, nice sound quality.

After 5 years the OLED screen is on the way out and it switches itself on randomly during the night. I asked about repair and they said they couldn't and offered me and offensive 20-30% off another really expensive and unreliable radio.

I spent £100 in good faith and bought an additional speaker for another £30. Very upset, will actively avoid anything Pure, wish I'd never recommended to anyone - I have a number of friends who have followed my choice.

I am just struggling to try to get my PURE Tempus 1xt working. After around 5 years when I loved using the radio, it now loses its presets and sometimes the alarm works and sometimes it doesn't - completely unreliable. At first I thought it was something to do with power cust but having contacted PURE, it seems it is some form of radio dementia.

I also was offered a discount to buy another PURE radio. I'm really not impressed - this is built in obsolescence with a vengeance. What am I supposed to do this this great lump of stuff if I buy a new one - send it for landfill? To the charity shop with a label on saying "you can listen to the radio but you have to tune it every time you turn it on, and don't rely on the alarm" ???

It should be illegal to trade in this way - PURE - sort this out

Pure Tempus

Dire. Has only lasted a couple of years then the software crashed. Very poor value for money; it cost over a £100. We also bought a Pure CD radio for the kichen, it has a ribbon style aerial. Reception is very variable. It also cost £100. No more Pure in this household: the brand is now toxic in my opinion .

Appalling Build Quality

The aerial doesn't stay up. the display has gone dark. The volume control doesn't work. This radio is ideal if you never use it. If, however, you have the temerity to switch it on and listen to it then it will start to break up immediately. DAB stole a march in the DAB world by producing expensive products early on. Never buy one because it will give you endless frustration and regrets that you wasted your money. Funnily enough the advanced digital optical output is still working and I have it plugged into the digital input of my amplifier. This is the only way it is usable at present, but I don't hold any expectations that this situation will continue.

Disappointing Short Life Span.

I received the Pure Tempus 1 radio as a gift about 5 years ago and was really pleased with the sound and look of it and the ease of use. However the screen has now frozen on the blue back light with no stations showing, no sound and nothing works when any of the buttons are pressed. This is so disappointing as I would have thought that something this expensive would work for years and years - not just five! I won't be buying another one as this is the second pure radio I've had problems with and although they sound great, they are frought with problems and not worth the money for the short life span they appear to have. Another piece of expensive junk for land fill :(
