I Have A Nokia 8310 And Bought The Mobileaction Ma
I have a Nokia 8310 and bought the Mobileaction MA-620 Handset Manager IR-USB kit. The installation of the driver is not a problem, but the software for Handset Manager just doesn't do anything past allowing me to select the manufacturer and model of my phone. I can click on install software til the cows come home and get nothing. The manufacturer's website does not currently support this phone in their version 7 release.
The software doesn't load :-(
Duh, you bought this for a phone that isn't supported? Surprised it didn't work? Wow.

I First Decided To Purchase The Ma-620 From An Onl
I first decided to purchase the MA-620 from an online supplier as I had found the Nokia data suit for my trusty Nokia 8310. Installing the software onto the PC was not a problem, you just let the CD autoplay do its thing and select from a drop down menu the correct handset software.
The installation takes a couple of seconds but after it has completed, you simply plug the IRDA (Infra Red Data Association) adapter into the PC via a USB port and one of the two green LED's light up. Once you have activated the IR on your handset, the PC will automatically detect the handset and you can boot up the handset software.
The program's capabilities allow you to synchronise the phone with the pc, make backups of your phonebook and SMS inbox. The program also comes with a ringtone composer containing some pre-rendered tones/ .midi.
With the more modern handsets, a wallpaper creator can be used to upload colour wallpapers but also to create operator logo's on the older handsets with b/w screens.
The program's user interface is simple and easy to use but the fact that the software keeps disconnecting and reconnecting is a pain.
This program in use with the simpler generations of IR capable mobile phones is fine.
Things change for the worst when using with such later phones as the Nokia 7210/7250/7250i and probably many others.
I would heavily recommend that you use this IR adapter with Windows XP and the downloadable manufacturers' software rather than the software supplied. I have roughly saved around £250 in wallpapers, ringtones, logos' etc through the use of this direct link from the PC to the handset as it will pay itself off very quickly indeed.
Overall, it's an excellent IRDA device with good looks and many, many uses...when used with the correct software!
