Songbird Wireless FM Transmitter

Audio performance was great. We were able to find FM signals quickly and move on to listening news, weather and music. According to Kensington, the Clear FM technology reduces background noise and enhances audio quality of the streams. Unfortunately, after comparing the device to other transmitters, we didn't notice too much of a difference. Nonetheless, the audio was clean, crisp and a pleasure to listen to in uninterrupted areas.

Going back many years ago, before CD players became a standard feature in cars, a device was created to allow you to listen to music from a portable CD player through your car stereo; a cassette shaped device which slotted into your tape deck, which connected to either the earphone or line-out socket of the CD player.

For those people who don't have a cassette player in their car this isn't possible, which is where the Songbird Wireless FM Transmitter comes into its own. MP3 players are more popular than ever now, with capacity for much more music than a CD.

It works very simply. It takes either two AAA batteries, or can be powered with the supplied cigarette lighter socket. Connect it to either the earphone socket or line out of your unit (if using the earphone socket make sure the volume is turned up high). Then select one of the frequencies (you have five to choose from starting at 106.7 through to 107.8). Just tune your FM radio into that frequency and you can then hear your music through your car stereo, very clear and with virtually no interference.

Why I think this FM transmitter works so well (for me anyway), is because the frequencies that you can tune into are up the high end of the FM frequency scale. The ones down the lower end (87-88 khz) get interference from the radio stations in that area (Radio 2 and Radio 3). You may find in some of the larger cities where there are lots of independant radio stations that cause interference. It all depends on these factors, but where I live there are no stations past 99.9 (Classic FM) so this works brilliantly.

It can be bought very cheaply from several internet sites and is a real bargain for the quality sound it reproduces. Highly recommended!!
