A Culinary Delight
What a delightful place to eat. The food is excellent and the waiters attentive. Particularly recommend the mackerel with gooseberry sauce and the braised lambs kidneys. Always beautifully cooked and presented, and their specials are particularly good value. Only critiscism would that the house wines are not very good and over priced. Still my favourite eating place.

This Little Gem Of An Eatery May Be Tucked Away In
This little gem of an eatery may be tucked away in a small welsh town but is always busy - the reason is because it is a pleasant friendly place to be with great food at good prices ! Be sure to book - chances of a free table after 19:30 about nil...

We Have Been Eating At Varens Since It Opened. We
We have been eating at Varens since it opened. We use this restaurant for special occasions (birthdays and anniversaries) 3 times each year. Since we moved to the area 7 years a ago we have tried many supposed 'restaurants' and paid some phenomenal prices, mostly with disappointing results. It suits our taste though reading previous comments it is'nt everyones cup of tea! We always have 3 courses as a meal out is something really special for us, (we're self employed 24/7, 50 weeks a year) They provide an excellent wine choice and a varied menu appropriate to most tastes and will accomodate any requests given 24 hours notice. Admittedly the portions are not huge but this is compensated by the quality and presentation of the food provided. In our estimation this restaurant provides a very good meal in comfortable environment. Any problems are addressed immediately if they arise. The staff have always been polite and efficient.

I Felt They Were Very Small Portions With A Large
I felt they were very small portions with a large price. It looked like a child's size portion of beef strauganoff which I found myself with, the menu said it had half rice and half chips but actually had 4 chips and a baby's hand size portion of rice. I could have made this dish for myself and my partner for less that £5 with the amount we had but it cost over £14 each!!!
Nice food but thought it was very over priced for the amount we had. Neither of us are big eaters but we left there starving.
Wont go there again as we felt it wasn't good value for money!
Whenever I have been there the food has always been excellent. If you want quality food then you pay a price for it - it's as simple as that. If you want a meal for £5 then have a bar meal at your local. I think it's a quality restaurant with very pleasant staff and a reasonable tariff. Each to their own I suppose but this person's review is very unbalanced which tends to obscure other people's opinions..
Keep up the good work Valans
I disagree with this review because... the facts are completely wrong. Whenever I have the beef stroganoff (which is whenever it is on the menu!) at Valans it comes with a heap of chunky fries and a generous portion of rice. The stroganoff is made from quality Welsh steak and is always so tasty. I've never paid 'well over'£14 for a portion, in fact the week before last I paid £13.95.
I guess you can't please everyone but keep up the good work!
How To Explain Valans? Well As A Llandybie Residen
How to explain Valans? well as a Llandybie resident I have to admit some bias. However as someone with a wife and a mother who are both wheelchair bound and both have unique dietary requirements (both needing dairy and gluten free food). I cannot praise all the staff at Valans enough, they go out of their way to be helpful, and all the loacally sourced food is excellent.

Valans Restaurant In Llandybie Has A Great Wine Li
Valans Restaurant in Llandybie has a great wine list, lovely selection of music including jazz, classical, modern etc. Food is out of this world, the best I've tasted for a very long time. The creme brulee is just delicious. Lots of welsh produce, all fresh and definitely homemade (no slices of pre-bought cheesecake here!). The Owner/Chef is always pleased to see you and makes time to chat at the end of the evening. The staff speak welsh and English and are very attentive and knowledgeable. We love it!
