Avoid Like Plague
Our bags were lost on a connecting flight, I assumed as I had purchased the top package from Sainsbury’s thinking as it’s 3 times as much as the nearest quote on go compare it would be great, I was wrong. Despite supplying them with documentation from the airline and airport, along with emails to/ from airlines and evidence of items lost ( bills/ receipts/ bank statements AND photos of the missing items ) we still have nothing in the way of a claim. They are useless and as a result will never even shop with Sainsbury’s again let alone get ripped off with their expensive and very useless insurance package 4 months after submitting the claim they are still asking for silly additional things before they process it, instead of just giving me a list of what they needed they have trickle fed information as to what is required by them, I am assuming they just keep fobbing people up till the give up. Honestly they are useless, utterly useless.

Please Don't Waste Your Money!
Worse travel insurance, probably like all others!
You have to know if you are taking a travel insurance and you need it, they will find a way to escape every time!
Which means you are feeding them for nothing! Did you know that some travel agents have some bonuses of more than £100.000! Happy to know, I am so disgusted!
Please don't waste your money on travel insurance!
Before travelling ask the government how you can be covered, more helpful than them...
Rubbish
no wonder this travel insurance gets rubbish reviews would never buy anything from them, holiday got cancelled so phoned to say insurance was not required told me I could use the insurance up t six months but had to give them a date I would be traveling in the next six months, how the hell are you meant to know when you would be going away now as things have changed again, If I didn't give them a date now I would lose the money would never shop or buy any product of Sainsburys, you could not care less about anyone apart from your profits
I give this company no stars and would never recommend them

Non Flexible
I eventually received a response from Sainsburys regarding the travel insurance that I had organised and paid for for a foreign holiday booked for May 2020.
email received 9th September - when I was promised a response within 3 working days in June 2020 - only 3 months late.
When my holiday was cancelled in late April I contacted Sainsbury Travel Insurance in an effort to re-schedule for May 2021.
I was informed that my travel insurance could not be used for a holiday in 2021 & offered a £10.00 refund as a goodwill gesture, which I declined.
The Sainsbury staff that I spoke with were neither user friendly or in my opinion professional.
I will not be using Sainsburys Travel Insurance cover again & will terminate the insurance cover that I have with them for my property etc as soon as possible.

Definitely Not Recommended
I chose to book Sainsbury's bank travel insurance after searching and found 5-star defaqto rating. When I added my age and health history made the premium expensive for a 7-day holiday in Italy for my wife and myself. TUI cancelled because of coronavirus so I tried to phone Sainsbury's travel insurance to ask if it was possible to cancel insurance, but received no replies after trying all numbers including claims line and waiting for some time until phone went dead. So I sent them a email again received no replies. I was not expecting to receive a full refund but there is no way of contacting anybody, not even to make a claim! Obviously I will not be arranging any insurance with this company ever again, especially on another occasion after changing pounds to euros Sainsbury's Bank cashier made a mistake and gave my wife 10 Euros less, my wife having worked in a bank spotted this and the cashier just made a groan not even a apology. They definitely lost us as a customer in the future.
Money For Nothing
I purchased a single trip insurance to Germany at the same time I arranged the holiday. The holiday was cancelled by the company due to lack of numbers, the company refunding the money paid so far, fine. I claimed on the insurance just to get the premium back and was told 'due to it being outside of the 14 day cooling off period they would not be refunding the premium'. This is blatant money for nothing when I said as much they said they had been providing cancellation cover since the booking was made. I would not recommend Sainsburys Bank Travel Insurance to anyone.
Same has happened to me, £242.23 out of pocket for insurance I purchased in September 19 to cover a holiday to USA in June 20. Travel insurance no longer needed. Sainsbury's refusing to refund any of my money.
Their response below :
I would like to highlight that we have provided you with cancellation cover since 27th September 2019 when you purchased your policy. I am unable to honour your request to provide you with a full refund outside of your cooling off period.
I note that you are not making a claim for your holiday. Had this not been the case then a claim for irrecoverable unused expenses could have been considered under the Cancellation section of the policy. Insurance is there to protect against unforeseen risk, if it is not used or claimed against, it does not mean that it should be refunded.
I appreciate that this will not be the outcome you would have liked but I also trust you can understand how I have come to this decision. You are able to cancel the cover, but we cannot issue a refund.

We took out a ‘Gold’ single trip policy with Sainsburys Bank as soon as we booked our dream holiday to the Maldives, thinking as we hadn’t gone for the cheapest cover that we would be covered for all eventualities. It cost us £65.30 for 2 weeks cover. Unfortunately hubby received 2 fractures to his lower left arm a few weeks before departure. We informed Sainsburys Bank travel insurance of all updates of the incident even up to & including a ‘fit to fly’ confirmation from the hospital doctor. He was at no risk on the holiday or flight but they deemed it appropriate to then charge us another £50+ as our circumstances had ‘changed’. We registered her unhappiness with the extra premium as we thought this is what the original premium was designed to cover, obviously not! We were told to pay up & complain upon our return at which point the return of the 2nd premium would be considered. They were totally dismissive to our refund of 2nd premium upon our return!
Our advise now would be to take out the cheapest cover policy suitable to you but do NOT use Sainsburys Bank as they have been totally unhelpful throughout, 2 weeks Insurance ended up costing us £120+!

Rip Off
IVE JUST TRIED TO MAKE A CLAIM AS MY HUSBAND HAS A LETTER FROM A DOCTOR TO SAY HE WAS NOT FIT TO FLY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS I HAVE NOT CANCELLED THE HOLIDAY. THE REST OF US WENT ON THIS HOLIDAY, I HAVE BEEN TOLD I CANNOT CLAIM WHICH IS UNFAIR, PRETTY DISGUSTING AND A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!!!!! HE WAS UNABLE TO FLY THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN.

Holiday Insurance That Excludes Package Holidays!!!
We took out an Annual Multi Trip policy with Sainsbury's. On the basis they are a name you could trust. We booked to go to South Africa and then on to Mauritius in December 2017 with a reputable travel company, who pulled together 7 flights and 3 hotel bookings for our trip. A few weeks ago the travel company informed us that the Game Lodge in South Africa we were booked in, had burnt down. The alternatives were (1)Cancel the whole trip and loose the £2,500 deposit. (2) Pay an additional £540 for an alternative Game Lodge. We contacted Sainsbury's as we had Travel Disruption Cover, which covers extra cost if the hotel goes out of business or burns down! We were informed that we could not claim as we had arranged the trip with one company, they classed it as a Package holiday, and the policy does NOT cover package holidays for these events. What a useless policy!

Travel Claim
This company brokers another companies insurance (Cigna Insurance Services) and when I made a claim for cancelled holiday due to diagnosis of bowel cancer I was directed to yet a third company Firstassist insurance services .These people are still trying to default on paying the claim despite numerous telephone calls e-mails and letters. From my experience I would strongly suggest not using Sainsburys for any form of insurance.
