San Carlo, Manchester

For my husband's 40th birthday I surprised him with a table for 20 of our close friends and family at San Carlo's. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food great and the whole evening went off really well. My husband was surprised and very happy. The staff made him feel very special.

The restaurant is expensive but I think it is a very good choice for a special ocassion and I would use it again in a heatbeat.

We booked a table for 2 at San Carlo on a friday night. Despite being very busy, the service was attentive and friendly and the food was excellent.However, having read a few reviews online I carefully checked the bill. As in the other reviews I have read there were 4/5 items on the bill we did not order. They did not seem at all surprised with this, went away and brought back the real bill, minus £45. I would recommend this restaurant, but make sure you check the bill very carefully.

The food at San Carlo is generally of a very high standard, great selection of fish and fine italian foods. The staff are friendly and the place always has a buzzing atmosphere. I would say the bad points are that some of the waiting staff have a tendancy to wave cutlery and plates, almost clicking their fingers to get my attention on my visits. I have often felt rushed by the waiting staff and have found a couple of them to be seemingly rude. It is not the sort of service I expect to receive from such an establishment.

I loved San Carlo - it was out first visit and I was overly impressed at the Wall of Fame - so many famous faces that I actually recognised! Unfortunately, we only had the pleasure of dining with a Manchester City footballer, and I didn't recognise him, but my boyfriend was very impressed!

The food was fabulous - we were served quickly, and it was presented beautifully.

The staff were great - they were friendly, and attentive to our needs.

I was really really impressed with the meal we ate at San Carlo in Manchester. It was beautifully presented, and tasted wonderful. I had lobster and it was cooked to perfection. My partner had the monk fish and he too was suitably impressed.

Highly recommended, represented by the high score.

We had a lovely lunch at San Carlo - I took a client there who was suitably impressed. It was very busy, which was surprising as it was only lunch time, and I anticipated only a small number of people dining. I guess everyone had the same idea as me, and thought that as everywhere else in Leicester is empty at lunchtime, so would San Carlo be. We were all very wrong!

Great meal, lovely restaurant

6 of us dined at the San Carlo on Friday 21/03/08. The food was good, however, it tended to go cold very quickly.

Having booked the table by phone, on arrival they denied all knowledge of the booking, but were able to seat us.

After 30 minutes they took our food order, but had not asked us what drinks we required. All in all, the service was quite simply abysmal; it was slow, and most of the staff were very disinterested and had a bad attitude (until it was time for the bill).

Everyone who eats there - be warned; check your bill.

We received our bill, and had been charged £240.00. On closer examination, we had been charged for an extra garlic bread, 3 extra main courses that we had not had, extra drinks and vegetables we had not ordered.

We queried the bill with the manager, but did not inform him what the discrepancy was. We simply asked that we receive the correct bill for what we had ordered.

The bill then miraculously appeared with the correct items we had ordered, and the correct price. We had been over charged '£70.00 on the first bill.

It is not acceptable in this day and age, particularly as there is so much competition in central Manchester to rip people off. Which is what this restaurant is blatantly doing.

What with this and the lacksadaisical and very poor attitude to service we will not be recommending San Carlo or eating there again.

I joined my family for an early evening meal recently. We all enjoyed our food, it was of a good standard.

Pitty the staff was not of the same standard, customer service was none existent. We at no point from our arrival to leaving were made to feel welcome.

Had a great evening at this restaurant. Food was excellent and the staff were very entertaining. The place has a real buzz. We were in great company which helped.Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a great night out.

The service is rude and indifferent. The food is of a good standard, but pricy. mistake made during service are grudgingly rectified, if at all (if you can get in having reserved a seat and all. Complaints are not acknowledged.
